Oh how gracious of you WW let's all eat corn because you've doubled the price of everything else .

    • +5

The plus side of the cost of living crisis is that it's forced me to mostly eat vegetables and now I'm eating healthier than ever

      • +1

$5 for a bunch of asparagus at woolies the other day… wtf!

    • +1

They buy lamb for $4 from the lamb rancher and then sell it for $40. They know exactly what they are doing.

    • corn

      Corn (maize).
Staple food that made possible Mayas, Incas, Aztecs empires (and neighbors too).

      Hope you don't disappear too … :-o

Thanks. My kid loves corn on the cob. One of the about 7 vegetables he’ll eat (if avocados and cherry tomatoes count as vegetables)

    • +2

I think avocados and cherry tomatoes are both technically classified as fruits 🙃

      • +21

This is true. ”knowledge is knowing tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad”

        • not with that attitude

      • +1

        Tomatoes are berries actually

        • Berries are a fruit. So you both right.

  • +9

    This is a sweet deal.
    But a bit corny.

    • Corn you be sweeter?

The human body cannot process corn, you'll be finding gold in your toilet for weeks.

    • +7

The human body cannot process corn,

My mouth sure can process the sweet sweet flavour though

you'll be finding gold in your toilet for weeks.

Two meals for the price of one!

      • Two meals for the price of one!

Its like using the tissue to wipe your bum then flip over and wipe your mouth later …

Of course the human body can digest corn. The part it cannot digest is the hull, which is perhaps the origin of this myth.

The early empires in Central and South America discovered that corn is even more nutritious when it is treated with alkali, rendering mixtamal (sp?).

Corn may very well be the secret source of the incredibly nutritious diet of the Western Hemisphere. It fed the Aztecs, and it rescued the Pilgrims in New England from starvation. It is the primary food for cattle, hogs, and poultry in North America today. In many ways it is a miracle crop, unequaled by any other.

Paint all the corn cobs in Aussie colours for Australia Day and we no longer boycott. Deal?

    • +1

Yeah, you would definitely need some paint to turn a corn cob and its leaves into the colours green and gold

  • +5

this is peak Corn harvesting time, so corn should be dirt cheap,

Woolworths are not doing you any favours,

    • +1

So true, i used to work in a fruit shop, cucumber at peak buying in is 5$ a box 10kg, and shop sells 2.5$ a kg.
So with ww bulk buy should be very cheap.

  • Khrushchev must be crying.

  • I bet the sweetness is entirely believable

  • Cost of living crisis can be pretty much summed up as: greedy landlords, greedy supermarkets & greedy airlines.

  • +1

What's the point in buying corn when it comes out looking the same as you ate it? not very ozbargain of us to buy it. Can I return the full cob when it comes back out?

  • Corn silk is very good for your health https://health.clevelandclinic.org/benefits-of-corn-silk

  • After watching Dreamybull I can't look at corn the same way anymore.

  • How do farmers make any money for their toils if WW can sell the corn for 80c ?

    • With an average 30000 corn cobs per hectare, 3 million per sq km (and some maize crops are double that if not more), farmers can easily make a profit, the maize growing sector is huge and it's big business, there is no 'toiling' away with shovels & an old tractor by these farmers, those days are long gone.

  • $10 for bananas!

    • +2

Remember that time you needed to take a second mortgage to afford bananas. It was well bananas. Pun intended.

  • +1

Sweet corns are made of this…

  • Carbs are killers

    • +1

Funny how some of the biggest carb eating nations (HK, Japan, Singapore, Italy, South Korea, Spain etc etc) have the longest life expectancy. Its all about moderation. Don't blame the carbs

    • Quite the opposite

  • +2

Meanwhile corn is $1 each at my local fruit and veg shop most times I go. Just shows how much WW normally rip people off with fresh fruit/veg.

Not to mention my local shop is so much fresher.

3min 30s in the microwave (unpeeled). Then chop off the stalk end and squeeze out the corn. 🌽

    • Yep, corn in the husk microwaves perfectly.

    • Just straight in, no soaking or anything? And the silk intact? Will have to try this.

      • +1

Yep. Do not unwrap, wash it because some filthy human may have touched it, then nuke it whole.

I do two minutes each side and add a minute or two if it's large.

      • +1

I just do 3m30s straight in. I don’t wash, same as how I don’t wash a banana, as I guess I’m throwing away the outside bit anyway. Don’t peel or anything. You’re basically steaming it in its own skin.

Then when done, give it a few minutes to cool off, then cut off a bit from stalk end and give it a squeeze from the top end. It will pop right out clean as a whistle leaving all the silk and husk behind.
