I great deal for one of the best (if not the best) USB mics on the market.

some of the reviews look rather promising.

wanting a mic to record instructional educational videos to upload to youtube and to a website.

any idea if this one word be a good/great choice¿

Just starting out so looking more at budget end mics at this stage if possible.

Very great choice for web videos/podcasts/streaming. Unsure about music recording as I don't personally use mine for that. I've had mine for a couple of years on a elgato low profile arm and haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.

      really great for that purpose!
just make sure you place the mic the best possible way - close enough to filter out background noise + 45deg angle so it won't pick up plosives + remember that this is a side-address mic, not a top-address one :)

I tried SM7B and MV7, however, always switched back to this - I'm only doing training videos, so no singing, music etc

      • cheers to both of you.

utilised the JB perks $10 boucher to bring it down to $89.

Is this one good for recording vocal?

    • Also interested.

That's what it's best for. Just needs a pop filter and perhaps a better stand than the cheap and nasty one it comes with.

this will record absolutely anything and everything near you, and also most stuff far away from you. good for studios (can control ambient sound) or if you don't care about ambient sound (i.e. don't have ambient sound to worry about).

Don't buy if you have kids or a baby. coz the mic WILL pick up the sound of the baby crying with the door of your room closed and the baby is in another room. source: me during lockdown.

tl;dr- fantastic mic - will capture everything. but if you have ambient sound, that's not a good thing.

I was in the same situation and thought about soundproofing the home office but grabbed a dynamic mic instead.

This is a side-address cartoid condenser microphone.

Side address means you're supposed to speak into one side of the microphone, not the end. This is a common mistake for some users, and often leads to people turning up the gain way too high and picking up lots of unwanted ambient noise.

The whole idea of a cartoid microphone is that it doesn't pick up sound from anywhere except in front of it, so it's actually really good at rejecting ambient noise when used correctly.

That said, some rooms (especially in a typical house) will get echoes that will still end up being picked up, so a small amount of background noise is inevitable without using some kind of electronic filter like Nvidia Voice or Krisp.

    check one two….check!

  • Thanks, got one at local JB for my son who wants to be a "streamer".

  • Got it and found it was very good on headphones but crap on YouTube. Tweaked bit in windows settings and up microphone. Made it so much better. Used OBS. any suggestions what software to use for streaming? Paid or free
