    yup pummelled

      No good ?

    • What's a good deal then?

      • +1

        TGG $1600 off S24U s24+, same $99 24mth plan

        • +2

Can you trade in with that though?

  • +4

Seems decent… even just getting it outright with the trade in deal and using a cheap prepaid the cost almost come out the same.

  • +7

Your title is very misleading considering there's a plan you need to be signed up to

    • +1

      Fixed

    • +14

And the phone he traded in worth over $500.

“Free car! (If you trade in a briefcase full of gold)”

  • +1

I think the $2386 in Telstra subs should be included in the price

    • Fixed

  • -7

More people boasting unnecessarily by using trade in values of phones plus signing up to a very expensive contract. Not a deal.

  • +1

if you're already paying $99 a month for your phone service probably a good deal but if you aren't then how good it is likely depends on whether you can cancel the contract and what that costs.

    • I was told after 12 months the cancellation fee is $400, something that would need to be clarified by either jbhifi or telstra

  • +3

I just went into Jb top ryde they told me $1450 GC cant be stacked with $300&$350 bonus but it stacks with $1100 plan gc offer…. but he seemed unsure(?) so worth trying out another jb to ask this again….

They confirmed cancellation fee would be 800/24*23

    • +2

I had confirmed today that the two $300+$350 bonuses can be stacked.

However the $300 voucher can't be used off the phone - you dont get it until after purchase. So sign to Telstra get $1400 off the S24+ another $350 off for trade in makes it $1750 off with $1699 being the 512GB S24+ price. So in theory nothing to pay!

      • Do you have to sign up before 22/1 to get the $300 gift card?

      • In the case of the S24+, I assume we get to keep the remaining $51 credit from the $350 gift card?

        • So when I did this apparently the $1400 + $350 isn't meant to be stack-able. They put it through for me and yes you keep the remainder plus the $200 gift card as gift cards!

    • +1

That is correct - I did this yesterday with a new plan and S24 Ultra. $1450 cannot be stacked and the $1100 can.

  • Hmm $800 makes it not a good deal after cancellation.
    Samsung offer then seems better

    • Which offer is that?

      • Too late expired

        • Which was it anyway?

  • @admin Please make it mandatory to add final price to these deals

  • -1

So if i trade in my S23U 512GB for S24U 512GB, i will have $460 credit remaining from $1450 credit card.
Then they send me a $300 gift card fso total $760 in JB GCs.
I sell the gift card for $700 to pay the $800 ETC.

Ends up costing me $100 , hmm

    • should you add the market value of your s23u to that $100 ?

      • -1

        Sorry you lost me

        • because you will give up your s23u, technically it has value so you not really spending just $100 to get the S24u
you pay with your s23u plus $100
or maybe i am thinking too far…

          • +1

@CyberMurning: But they are offering $800 + bonus $350 for S23U trade in so $1150 which is decent enough then dealing with marketplace scammer

            • The usual 'Is this still available?' Followed by no reply
            • The payid scam 'Im on a cruise but my son is available to pickup this afternoon, i will organise payid payment now' followed by an email from [email protected]
            • The lowball 1: 'I can offer $100 cash pickup now asap'
            • The lowball 2: 'Forgot to ask is the price negotiable' … yes happy to knockoff $50 if you pickup today … 'I was thinking $500 off'
      • You will get the new s24u. So they mean cost them $100 to upgrade from a used s23u to a brand new s24u.

        • Nvm

          • @mandelbrot: I think easternculture already considered this. He considered pay $800 fee instead of 99+767. Somebody said they can cancel the plan without paying the first month. If it is not possible, then it is $866. easternculture said that he can sell the $760 gc for $700. So the cost would be $166 if $99 is not avoidable.

    • +1

Maybe not easy to sell $760 gift cards for $700?

    • You've got some moving parts to this that might be wrong, namely:

      1. The T&Cs state the plan bonuses are not able to be combined with the other promotions, so you're relying on a salesperson making a mistake, or JB opting to change the offer.

      2. The $1450 is intended as a credit specifically for the S24 Ultra, so better to think of it as a coupon rather than a gift card. If they won't put the excess on a gift card, you're going to want to instead take the $1100 gift card deal to make this purchase.

  • Wow, Samsung finally gave up on that useless, functionless, edge curved screen design, wow, wow…

I never, ever, ever liked the curved screens, never. No Samsung it doesn't look premium, no i can't find a glass screen protector to cover the entire screen, no the cover can't wrap around it properly and best part about it was… Drum roll please….. There's frequently something on the curved part to click on and you can't!

Now only if all other zombie brands would follow Apple pro watch design to use a flat screen on the watch insted of with stupid curved edges, especially pixel watch, that thing is begging to get slammed, scratched and it does get.

    • +1

Im with you on this point.
I bought my S20fe based on the snapdragon and the flat screen - perfect

  • +1

I asked their chat if the deals could be stacked and the trade in bonus has a clause that it can't be used in conjunction with JB Hi-Fi Mobile deals.
However. would this be worth if someone was also looking to switch from Vodafone to Telstra?

    • You need to only take Telstra Plan gift card to stack other vouchers, not S24 Telstra specific gift card.

    OP wrote:

    Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 300GB/M 24-Month Plan

    • $300 gift card also given after deal is complete.

    JB Hi-Fi web page showed:

Bonus gift card offer: Not in conjunction with JB Hi-Fi Mobile Samsung Galaxy S24 offers.

Did anyone sign up to this JB Hi-Fi Mobile offer AND receive the $300 gift card?

    • Interesting, sales assistant was adamant $300 gift card would be given after deal is done.
Might want to double check on this for sure…

      • Make sure you get it in writing

        • The T&C of the PreOrder Bonus of $300 is that its not in conjunction with JB Hifi Mobile S24 offers, and so this is why you should take the Telstra Plan Gift Card in lieu of the specific S24 w/ Telstra Plan Gift Card. The sales people happily pointed this out to me yesterday when I was signing up. The $1450 credit is a dud if you are trading in a phone.

    • IF you took the $1450 S24 Ultra Telstra Gift Card option, then that is not stackable with the other vouchers according to the paperwork issued to JB Staff (i took a photo of it too). Only a Telstra plan voucher is stackable with Device Trade In bonus gift card and Pre-Order bonus gift card.

No one will have Gift Cards yet because no one has taken delivery of their handsets (they're still pre order)

  • Hoping this means S23 Ultra heavily drops in price!

  • For termination, can I just port out the number without contacting Telstra? Last time I got a new number and had to contact Telstra to cancel the number. Porting may save me some time.

    • If you have an existing number you want to keep, you don't even need to port in if you're intending to terminate immediately, just take a new number.

      • I think that is what I did last time. But you have to call or chat with Telstra to cancel the new number. They will keep debit my card every month if I don't do that. Do you mean I can do it immediately with the JB HiFi guy?

        • No, you're still contacting support, but it doesn't take long at all. You're certainly not going to dodge the first month charge through porting, and you may even be held from porting for a time.

Waiving the first month charge to lower the total termination fee to $800 will involve their support staff approving it for you, there's no way around that AFAIK.

Could be worthwhile to ask if they'd match TGG deal. Ask for $1600 off instead of $1450

    • TGG deal also has a $300 gift card to be claimed after you receive the phone.

      • JB also gives $300 gift card

        • The deals don't stack according to their T&Cs, unless they updated them today.

          • @jasswolf: I see, then TGG is better overall. I doubt they would match both

          • @jasswolf: IF you took the $1450 S24 Ultra Telstra Gift Card option, then that is not stackable with the other vouchers according to the paperwork issued to JB Staff (i took a photo of it too). Only a Telstra plan voucher is stackable with Device Trade In bonus gift card and Pre-Order bonus gift card.

  • I'd like to see a screen shot/photo of the deal advertised in store to understand what the deal is.

spend $2400 to get back $1450 is not ozbargain true spirit

    • +1

But spend $1699 to get $1750 back is! This deal also applies to the cheaper models - $1400 back instead of $1450 and add the trade in bonus $350 = $1750

AND the $300 vouch in the mail

  • +1

The $300 GC you have to apply for after you receive the phone. Jb will send it to you. As the terms state you can't combine two deals for gift cards i would say that you won't get the$300 gc. When you sign the jb hifi phone contract you are agreeing to the terms and conditions. With this deal here you agree signing up to a phone plan and getting the handset. The $300 gc is offered if you buy outright. If this deal was for a $1450 gift card when you signed up it would be different. Last July i signed up to this same $99 plan and got a $1400 jb gift card. At the time samsung also offered a watch 5 by redemption when buying an s23 ultra. I received that as the $99 plan with gift card was seperate from the buying the phone. At the time i could have used the $1400 gift card towards an iphone

    • If this deal was for a $1450 gift card

      It is a gift card.
They use it to discount on the phone on the POS.
This is why the invoice shows the full price of the phone if you want to claim TRS

Last years similar JB-HiFi deal i went with more for the Jbhifi/Telstra 5G plan,.. so ended up selling the S23 Ultra phone and bonus/gift vouchers etc also traded in one of my old Samsung phones with the deal, i did stuff up a little with the deal but still the plan for 24 months actually turned out a lot cheaper per month compared to the actual $99 per month Telstra charges for this unlimited calls/text with 150gb data plan (deal had double data also too 300gb per month), I actually went for 2x deals/plans as i use them purely for fast Telstra data plans as at my place i get near 700 MBPS 5G speeds with Telstra, Optus here barely is 3G speeds otherwise I would go for the slightly better TGG/Optus deal, note too JB-HiFi/Telstra plans one can now do data sharing which wasn't possible on last year's deal JB-HiFi/Telstra plans

Tempted to do one more for my primary mobile number, anyway too early in the morning and couldn't be bothered doing the maths on this one but looks very similiar too last years deal, with last years deal i did get a discount with Telstra for 12 months with $20 off per month but i think last years plan with JB-HiFi had a $10 discount too so plan was actually $89 per month for 24 months

    Thanks OP too 👉😀👈

Edit: happy to share further with my last years deal if anyone asks 👌

    • I was wondering, how do i negotiate a better deal with the cost of the plan, do i talk to jbhifi or telstra ?
      Thanks

      • What I did with last years deal was too soeak to Telstra first (JB-HiFi wont help here) and ask if i took the JB-HiFi/Telstra deal would they discount my plan $20 per month, think took me few chats to find someone who new about the deal

Anyway very important is for the chat help rep too store in notes of your account to state you had the conversation about this $20 discount agreement, so there are no dramas speaking too them in future about the discount being agreed by Telstra previous rep, yes I had a prevoius current account with Telstra so i guess then one needs too tie there conversation against there current mobile number I guess, the whole pricess could be straight forward or a bug drama speaking to the wrong rep

    • … Or you could sign up to Telstra's 5g home internet service. $85pm, free 5g modem, no lock in contact, first month free, 1tb download

      • Would you have a weblink for this Telstra 5G 1TB data plan? so too share too everyone and wondering do you currently have this plan well does Telstra speed limit this 5G plan? Not bad since 1TB of data is included I wonder what happens when one goes over there allocated data allocation of 1TB per month data 😉

          • @mandelbrot: Funny currently using Telstras 5G mobile umlimited calls/text plan and achieving upto 700 MBPS speeds but search of my address for this Telstra 5G home plan results in this,..

"Telstra 5G Home Internet isn’t yet in your area, or even if 5G is in your area, we can’t offer you 5G Home Internet until there is enough network capacity to offer the best 5G Home Internet experience."

            Thanks Mandelbrot 👍

            • @Italkdigital: Telstra 5g home internet is different to their 5g mobile. Uses different infrastructure I believe. Your area may already have the 5g home internet available, but have reached capacity of customers already.

  • Has anyone signed up to this deal yet, and traded something in? If so, we're you able to use the trade in bonus coupon?

    • +1

Yes, but you have to take the standard Telstra Gift Card offering in lieu of the S24 Telstra Gift Card offering.

The JB Hifi Rep said for all these voucher stackings to work, they need to process the $350 Device Trade In Bonus first through the till (which was manually done - no barcode in the email I got from Squaretrade), followed by your Device Trade In Voucher (which is a PDF they can scan), followed by the $1100 Gift Card (Telstra Plan - which is a normal gift card they made in store), and then you pay the balance. In my case, $449. Upon device pickup they'll issue the $300 Pre-Order Gift Card. If you are in store today or tomorrow doing this - make sure the staff process it like this - don't accept that "we cant do that".

      • Cheers!

That was my thinking given the T's and c's state the $1450 offer isn't stackable. Thought id see if someone had somehow got it to work.

I've been thinking of going a similar route to you, especially since you'll get the bonus gift card doing it this way like you said.

Just need to decide if I'll cancel the plan or not, which 'should' be ~$800.

Edit: Actually the cancellation would be $1100 instead according to their website - assuming their systems calculate it properly at the time of generating the payout figure.

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans

"The $1100 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term"

        • My sales person said it would be $800 cancellation as well, but yes certainly you raise a good point there about the Gift Card Value replacing the CIS value.

  • +1

I asked my local store + livechat and they confirmed that the $350 trade in bonus does not apply to the plan.

    • Yes, I've just found that out as well….

  • +3

IF you took the $1450 S24 Ultra Telstra Gift Card option, then that is not stackable with the other vouchers according to the paperwork issued to JB Staff (i took a photo of it too). Only a Telstra plan voucher is stackable with Device Trade In bonus gift card and Pre-Order bonus gift card.

Signed up to $99 Telstra Plan with S24 Ultra 1TB yesterday and this is what happened:

    • $1100 Telstra Plan Gift Card
    • $500 Device Trade In Credit (PDF emailed to me) - fwiw it was a S22 Ultra 512GB
    • $350 Trade In Bonus (Code emailed to me after opening another email from SquareTrade)
    • $449 Paid at the check out
    • $300 Gift Card will accompany the phone when ready for collection.

Samsung were offering $555 trade in, and Telstra a $75 plan (which ends up being $34 better value by the time you add International Calls to the JB Telstra plan as its not included)… so no such thing as a free lunch. I would have looked at Telstra direct but their promo of a Galaxy Tab does nothing for me. Also $850 is pretty decent total trade in for the S22 Ultra, anything less and I probably would have looked to offload privately.

    • -1

What do you mean, they are offering $1450 off. Then they have an option to trade in - and the definition of trade-in is to sell an item and put it towards another (in this case total $1150 for s24U 512GB). And then after you recieve the phone, you can claim the $300 GC as invoice will just show you bought a phone via GCs.

      Am i missing something

  • +3

Spoke to JB rep today and below is what he told me for S24+
    Price =$1699
    Plan signup bonus $1400
    1699-1400 =$299
    $299+ $99 = $398 (First Month Cost)
    $398+$800 = $1198 (Inc Cancellation Cost)
    $1198 - $350 = $848 (Trade in Bonus)
    $848 -$180 =$668 (Trade value)

Cost of the phone is $668
And I wont get the bonus $200 Gift Card

Just wondering of there is any better deal than this?

    • Thanks for the maths calculations certainly makes it easier to understand

Edit: wondering if you didn't cancel the Telstra plan what would be the outcome 🤔 your maths calculations again would be appreciated lolz but thanks again so far 👌

Edit again: also in the past (I'm sure) people have took the trade in bonus of $350 but negged in sending their trade-in Samsung phones too square-tradein and only lost out on the trade-in value of their phone but still received/kept the $350 trade-in bonus then sold their phones for more privately, unless the trade-in rules have changed since then?

      • With the plan for S24+ it will be

        Price =$1699
        Plan signup bonus $1400
        1699-1400 =$299
        $99 x 24 Months = $2376
        $2376 + $299 =$2675
        $2675 - $350 = $2325 (Trade in Bonus)
        $2325 -$180 =$2145 (Trade value)

Phone cost $2145 over two years.

    • I thought the $350 bonus wasn't stackable against the $1400? According to one of the posts above, it's only stackable if you go with the $1100 gift card. Or have I misunderstood?

      • From last years similar deal I did,.. one applies for the trade-in first and receives a $350 bonus trade-in voucher (I'm sure can be used against other deals as a voucher) which then can be used against the purchase of the phone,.. you use the Samsung trade-in app to do trade-in and I'm sure the voucher happens maybe instantly ok cant remember so not sure but i certainly I used the voucher against the purchase of the last years S23 Ultra phone, anyway the release day of phone happens much later so plenty of time to receive the voucher before hand

Edit: And I'm sure the $1400 signup bonus is just a pure discount provided I'm guesting by Telstra towards JB-HiFi towards one's phone purchase so not really a voucher and so not really stacking 1x voucher against another

Edit again: reading user BW296 below comments they have changed things for this year's deal, I certainly used both discount/voucher last year

Wow whoops ok can already pickuo phone, my bad lolz

  • +3

    Just came back from JB.

With the $1450/$1400 S24 range gift card offer, you can't stack with with the bonus trade in coupon and you are not eligible for the bonus gift card for pre ordering. (bonus $200/$300 gift card offer ends today)

JB sent out a memo to all stores showing a comparison table of what's included with the this offer and also the 'regular' bonus $1100 gift offer on the $99 plan. The plans themselves are identical, the 'premium' one, but it clearly states what I mention above.

If you got the bonus trade in value applied with the $1450 gift card, well, you got lucky (bit jealous if so! :p) If you have nothing official in writing, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't end up giving you the bonus pre order gift card.

I got the $1100 gift card offer, applied the $350 bonus trade in and will receive the $200 gift card (I ordered a s24+). My Telstra paperwork doesn't mention which gift card I received, only the POS receipt I received when I ordered in store shows that ($1100) figure. You need to show this receipt when picking up your phone, and they will refer to that/your original order to ensure you're eligible.

Cancellation cost is ~$800. If you're not an existing Telstra customer, you will need to pay $99 upfront so add that to your cancellation fee. Otherwise it gets added to your existing billing cycle.

    • Can you share the deal you have signed up for the S24+?

How much you end up out of pocket, in addition to $99 pm for 24 mths?

      • +2

        I did this deal yesterday for a S24+ 5126GB

        1. trade in via squareuptrade at jbhifi website, got the trade in voucher ( s22+ 128gb $375) and the bonus voucher ($350) via email within minutes
        2. went in store to jb hifi
        3. Signed up for $1100 voucher $99/month mobile deal, $99 was charged to my credit card immediately and physical sim and new number issued to me.
        4. Then rep took me up to counter, the s24+ 512gb was placed on the order at $1699 (preorder deal of 512gb for 256gb price) they scanned in the two trade in vouchers, then the $1100 voucher…so $1699-$375-350-1100= which left me with a gift card with a balance of $126.

So I walked out with a S24+ 512gb preordered, ( supposedly for pickup tomorrow), a giftcard with $126 on it, a simplan at $99/month whjihc i will cancel next week, and I need to send in my phone to the squareuptrade people.

so…if I can sell my gift card balance…say for $100..my total cost to upgrade is

1699-375-350-974-100+99(1st month of sim plan) +766(sim plan cancel voucher repayment fee)= 765

        • forgot to say…they told me that doing the deal this way I wasn't eligible for the $100 preorder giftcard. Hmmm

          • @Gr8deel: i did get the $100 gift voucher when I picked up phone. so $665 total cost

  • JB has decreased the value of the gift card to $100 :(

  • Went to a store and JB said only $1450 off(with $99 plan for 24 months) + $150 giftcard(claim after received the device)

    • I went the ultra $1100 off, stackable with the $350 trade in bonus + my trade in of $180 = $1630 - $2199 = $569 (up front)+ $300 gift card when i pick it up on the $99 month plan.
