    • as stated, it wont be that price at all. you can wait but then you will miss out on this deal. look how much games are right now. proof is there

    • +3

Not going to happen. You won't find this below $99 in physical retail stores at launch.

      https://www.kotaku.com.au/2024/01/final-fantasy-vii-rebirth-…

    • +7

Lol there's no way this game is launching at $68…

    • +2

It's no longer 2020 my dude.

      • -4

Spoken like EB Games staff. This isn't some niche game most stores won't stock, it'll be discounted like pretty much everything else.

        • have fun waiting for that. i will be playing day one for $49.

          • +1

@Rukiata: Waiting for standard launch deals? Yeah,OK bud.

            • -7

@Ryven: and everyone here is not agreeing with you. ok bud.
look at proof in the comments. nothing else is needed to be said.

              • -5

@Rukiata: I don't care how many people are wrong.

                • +2

                  @Ryven: Lol, super salty.

Amazon is always a good guide and even with preorder price drop etc they're still sitting at 99

This will be 79 maybe two months after launch if you want to wait till then

        • +2

I prefer the days when launch games were $69/$79. Problem is they arent anymore. Bought Spiderman 2 the other week on launch and the best I could find was $89. PC launches are even worse.

  • +1

Is this the second part of the FF7 remake? How many parts is the full game going to be?

    • +2

Yep this is the second part and there will be 3 that makes the full 'Remake' series.

      • So is this itself a remake? I never knew ff7 had 3 parts? I never played a FF game before lol. Turn based games are not my thing

        • +10

you really need to google this, its not turn base for one, these are very long games they added more gameplay to. its nothing like the OG.

        • +1

As @Rukiata mentioned, its worth watching an explainer about this on YouTube so it makes sense but this Remake series of games is a bit of a departure from the OG.
It follows the same story for the most part but with some pretty major deviations which are likely going to be explained in this second part and 3rd whenever that is released.

        • +5

The FF7 Remake is a whole new set of games based on the story events of FF7 from the PS1 era.

FF7 Remake (2020) is Part 1 and takes place in Midgar (basically following the events of the first part of Disc 1 on PS1)
FF7 Intermission (2021) is Part 1.5 and takes place in the same timeline as Part 1 from Yuffies POV (but contains a much shorter section, more like 2-3 chapters)
FF7 Crisis Core Reunion (2022) is Part 0.5 and takes place before the events of Part 1 - skippable, doesn't really count as part of the main FF7 game remake
FF7 Rebirth (2024) is Part 2 and takes place after the party has left Midgar. It takes us through a slightly different time sequence to how FF7 (PS1) is presented, but will be very similar - we still don't know where the game will end or what path it will take.
FF7 [Reborn] (????) is Part 3 and I don't think it has a proper title yet. This game will cap off the remake series

FF7 Rebirth doesn't have any planned DLC like Intermission, but that could change.

          • @Zythyx: They figured out a way to milk this

But I have to say, the last one was pretty decent

            Worth the money

Can’t say the same for FF15

It was so boring I sold it before finishing the game

          • @Zythyx: I reckon 99%+ chance there'll be a rebirth DLC.

SE needs a good cashcow and FF7 is definitely the new kingdom hearts in that they'll have as many installments I think as possible, need to make every $ count given a number of other IPs aren't faring so well…

As much as I enjoyed, I still can't get why they couldn't do 7 over two games tops.

            • +1

              @buckster:

As much as I enjoyed, I still can't get why they couldn't do 7 over two games tops.

The first part was Midgar exclusively, like the first 4-5 hours of a ~50 hour long game. It was practically guaranteed to span across 3 games at least. I think there will be DLC too, just nothing has been announced yet (just like FF16 where no DLC was planned but they wanted to wait for the reception of the game first)

      • Nice any ideas on when they expect the final part to be released?

        • +1

          Likely 2028. Itll probably be multi-gen across PS5 & PS6

          • @ruddiger7: So annoying as its already multigen with first release on the ps4

            • @fuzor: Yep, I usually buy on console when its exclusive, sell it when Im done and then re-purchase on PC later.

            • @fuzor: To be fair it's an enormous game.

It's basically cinematic quality for every sequence.

Part 2 might be the first PS5 game that needs 2 discs I've ever seen

  • Needs "EB Games" added to the title.

  • +1

Any indication of trade values? I'm guessing games that are now on PS Plus are worth < $10? Thinking Spider Man, Ratchet and Clank etc ?

    • +3

Usually if they it preowned for $34 or over in my experience, it will be eligible.

  • Worth mentioning it's eligible PS5, Switch, and XSX games.

So those with PS4 copies of games won't be able to trade them in.

    • +2

not true, i traded ff vii part 1 on PS4 and it was included, but i chose to get tekken 8 instead of this game, this promo has been available for over a week already

      • Interesting, the promo specifically says PS5, but that's good if they honour PS4 copies as well.

        • Give them a call, it would be a website filter to reduce ps4 trade ins but not hardcoded in their system

      • Only PS5, Switch and Xbox Series X games are eligible, it's in the banner of each game.

You got lucky someone took it.

        • its worth giving them a call i reckon they would honour it

      • Did you only trade it and another game and get the $49 deal? They sell the PS4 version preowned for $28, so at most it’s trade value is a few dollars. If they did the deal with it you got very lucky with an employee who truly didn’t give af and was willing to do a dodgy lol

        • Yep traded that and strangers of paradise for ps5.
Two stores agreed it was acceptable. So I'm fairly confident it's ok

          • @maverickjohn: I don’t work there anymore so can’t actually check trade values, but it 100% isn’t trading for $10+ if they’re selling for $28, so no idea how they agreed. They’d be manually upping the trade value from like $2-3 to $35 for this deal to work. Good for you either way.

edit: Just realised Stranger of Paradise is also worth nothing. You definitely got lucky haha

          • @maverickjohn: The Agents then didn't follow the procedure, officially, it's only PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch games.

            Lucky you.

    • Yeah some stores don't care - you will get some who will enforce it though.

    • Do I just bring a stack of games in and see what trades in at above $10?

      • yes

    • +1

I check ebgames Elizabeth st Melbourne. Not much PS4 copies eligible, so the just put PS5 in their banner. They accept my Farcry6 and FF7 remake, both ps4 copies.
Maybe PS4 titles that recieve free PS5 upgrade?

  • +2

Sweet. Trade I'll trade in ff7 remake and some other game I don't play.

  • +6

Easiest method is buy 2 copies of Dying Light 2 for $30 so $79 total.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/playstation-5-dying-light…

    • Is that confirmed to trade in for >$10? Should I just leave the shrink-wrap on? Haha

      • It worked for me yesterday. Trade in prices change daily so best to call before going.

      • Trades in for a base value of $18

      • Can confirm it worked for me today at the Glen.

Left the shrink-wrap on, they didn't even bother to open it.

    • Yea if this is confirmed, you could potentially get the game for $69 with JB perks code.

      • How does that work?

        • +1

Just sign up for a new JB perks account with a spare phone number to receive a $10 coupon. Use it to buy the games and trade them in.

  • Maybe (hopefully) jb has a deal where you trade in 2 games for final fantasy like they did for Spiderman 2.

    • -1

its coming out next month though, how long did it take them do open that deal? also those games are limited and normally they want new release games only

  • +3

I knew I should have picked up a couple $15 forspokens

    • I tried to trade a forspokens copy that I already finished and it was valued at $5 haha
In other words, it is not accepted for the deal

  • +5

As someone who worked at EB for years, these deals are almost always terrible. Generally the only games actually eligible are ones released in the last 6-12 months or so, and even then some recent ones might not be. Anything actually eligible could easily be sold for like $50+ on marketplace etc.

Plus it used to generally be “trade 2 and get it for $19” only like 2 years ago, they’re now wanting you to still pay $50 on top of the trade!?

      • +2

I don’t blame you not wanting to mess with marketplace, but I’m telling you the only stuff actually trading for over $10 and eligible for this “deal” is stuff EB still sell preowned for like $80-90.

If you want to give up two still valuable, likely recent games only to still be charged $50 then by all means. I don’t think it’s a compelling deal.

        • +1

General rule I found is that the trade value is 1/3 of the preowned price and prices go down during sales. Now is the time to trade since there's no sale going on.

          • @wonderboy: New releases I’d say are around that, brand new $100 games would trade for around $30-35, but the value drops rapidly as prices go down. We’d give customers like 50c-$1 each for a bunch of older games and then immediately slap on $18 stickers as they walk out.

            • -1

@ItsNOTaLIE: fallout 4 they are selling for $4. so again depends on the game.

        • -3

this is not true at all.
i see games selling for $28 they take. legit only selling them for $28. so depends on the game.
if you dont want to do this deal thats fine. but others might and i will be.

        • I paid $30 for two eligible games at JB so…

        • I've been doing trade-ins at EB Games for the last 3-4 years.

The deals are awesome if you know some simple math and can find cheap games, there are a few hacks like getting games from the 2x$30 from JB Hi-Fi, Cheap games from CeX, and more. Most PS5/Switch games from $34 and onwards usually qualify, but there are even some $28 games that qualify too and that includes games from 3-4 years ago.

Deals, most of the time, involved trading in 2 eligible games + $29, very rarely they had the 2 games + $19.

With the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, games got more expensive so they started with $39 and $49.

  • How does the trade in work with preorders? Do I give them 2x games and pay $49 prior to the release date, or give them the games when picking it up on the release date?

    • Trade them now and pay whenever you can

    • You can do the deal until 6 days after the launch date.

  • Dam Shinra lapdogs!

  • +1

So what's the cheapest games we can buy to take advantage of this?

I don't have anything to trade in.

  • +2

Can confirm EB Waverley Gardens VIC just accepted my trade in of 2 copies of Dying Light 2 bought for $20 at JB with Perks code.

Altogether $69 for a new released AAA title in 2024, pretty good deal.

  • +3

Big W has it at $89 if you use the 10% off voucher and can get it lower with everyday reward points. Good alternative if anyone needs an another option.

  • Anyone know if games from other regions are eligible for trade ins? Or has to be Australian version?

    • I haven't confirmed, but last I checked (6+ months) it had to be an AU game

      • Been trading a while they will accept it but you'll get less credit, they just put their own classification stickers on

        • Thanks! The only non AU game I have is Like a dragon Gaiden, and I don't think I'll trade that one in…so hadn't checked for a while

    • They have to be rated in Australia according to the EB games website.

    • In 2022 for Elden Ring I traded in a UK Pal game, which reduced the credit I received by like 3 dollars (can't really remember) but yeah it went through, I just had to pay a little more than $49.
It may not work now though, what I did was bring a bunch of game to the store and got them to check which ones were allowed or called them up and asked.

Rugby 22 - $14 Not included in above sale

    • +1

If anyone can confirm the trade in values for any of the above games is over $15 individually at EB, then it'd be worth it to use these games as credit against the $49.

      • Also a good point.

        • Current trade in prices for some Switch games:

          Mario Odyssey - $30
          Paper Mario - $24
          Mario 3D World - $30
          Smash Bros - $34
          Mario + Rabbids Kingdom - $14

    • thanks for the list, surprisingly I got 12 games in the list that I want to get rid

    • +1

      Gollum $18
      Let's Sing ABBA $11

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
I traded the 2 for $30 PS5 games I got from JB and paid for the remaining with 4 PS4 games traded in for $43 (which had $1 trade in value at JB) + $7 cash.

For those who only have 1 PS5 game at their disposal, get the PS5 TINY TINAS WONDERLANDS from JB for $19 then trade it in with your one. Effectively becomes $69 with 1 PS5 game trade in.

  • $119 for one game? Wowzers!

    • +1

      Technically it's 1/3rd of a game too ;)

    • +1

Highly anticipated AAA 100hr game from established franchise 🤷‍♂️

  • I have lv5 if anyone wants bonus trade in

    • +1

I’m sorry us peasants won’t contribute to your level 5

  • Anyone know how many EB World carrots I’ll get from preordering via this method? I’m 105 carrots off the next level and trying to see if I’ll reach it

    • +1

144 carrots from the initial trade. The games you trade in get you $36 each so 72 carrots per game. You will get more once you pay off the game

      • Is this dependent on the value of the two initial games you trade? Or a flat $36 per game?

        • +1

Any game worth $10 more or will just get converted to $36.

  • Ok I can confirm the dying light 2 at JB trick works.

Had ten bucks birthday perks too. So that's good

  • +1

Got 2 x dying light 2 for $18 and traded for $63.80 - $49 (for game) = $14.80 refunded back by EB… so effectively only paid $3.20 for this game!

  • Traded ps4 ff7 remake (valued at 11)
ps5 horizon zero (valued at 28)
    ps4 it takes 2 ($9)

They honoured the ps4 ff7 remake so eventually paid $40 for the preorder ff7 rebirth

  • I dont have the boxes but only the switch cart how would i trade them in. I have captain toad and some other games like 1 2 switch. not a fan of the game
