mini PCs on special again (after doing the old 'increase the price, then offer a discount' move - but the lowest price previously was $679 - now it's $530)

after some people complained that the Intel N100 chipset based mini PCs for $230 'werent powerful enough' (even though I use one daily for my email/web/o365 and MS Teams workhorse) maybe this Intel I7-12560H CPU (10 cores, 16 threads) with 32GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD will be enough for them. Geekbench score is single core 1715/ multi 8392, DOTA 2 supposedly runs at 90+ fps.

Listed price is $979 (other I7-12560H based mini PCs on Amazon are around the $700-800 mark) but click the 'apply coupon' button and you'll get it for $530.

this is a similar Intel i7-1650H based mini PC tested for gaming at 1080p - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlD9V0wWSMw

and another similar review video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD1y70MQ2Do

the Kamrui AD08 also seems to be known as the NiPoGi overseas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1-TWcAQfds

supports up to 64GB DDR4 RAM, has a PCI Gen3 NVME and SATA SSD slots.

If you're after a cheaper system then the N100 based mini PCs are $230 again after clicking the 'apply coupon' discount button.

not affiliated, I just like lower energy consuming devices that are also cheap (and stay away from raspberry pi 5 for emulation boxes guys.. they cost nearly the same as an intel n100 mini pc once you add in power supply, case, SSD and you're limited to 8GB maximum. Get a proper x86_64 based pc and run emulators for 3DS, PS2, PS3, Wii U, Switch, Gamecube etc.) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mwgH9xY6WE

  • Gaming?

    • LoL and Dota for sure.

    • light gaming at 1080p - DOTA 2 supposedly runs up to 90 fps - https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71oxuOG47FL.AC_SL1500.jpg

If you really want to do some gaming on a mini PC though I'd recommend any with an AMD processor since the AMD built in graphics are generally much better than the Intel built in graphics. If you want to add in a discrete GPU later then you really need to be looking at mini-ITX systems - but they are huge compared to most mini PCs.

Most mini PCs are about 13cm x 13 cm x 5 cm in size (some even smaller) - whereas a mini ITX system is generally about 25cmx 20cm x 11cm - so you could fit about 8 mini PCs inside a mini ITX case. That's the size difference we're talking about to be able to fit in a discrete GPU card.

  • 5800U same price but much better graphics.

  • -4

Calling this a "gaming pc" when it doesn't even have a discrete graphics card is borderline fraudulent, but certainly taking the piss.

Even if I was simply searching for a "mini" pc, and even if this is a good deal, that alone has me flipping the bird at the seller for their raw arrogance.

    • +1

It'll still play a shitload of games perfectly fine with its Intel UHD Graphics 64EU. For example older titles like GTA 5 will easily get over 100fps at 1080p, while something newer like Genshin Impact gets 45-50fps on medium settings. If we talk emulation that a lot of these mini PCs are used for we'll have no issues with most platforms.

Or get the AMD version and hook up a proper GPU via USB 4 and get even better performance.

I can think of plenty of mini PCs that use mobile processors like the N5105, N5095 and N95 that'll struggle more.

No, it won't. You won't get that framerate without setting almost everything to "0" and getting a jank, jaggy mess.

Sure, if you want to talk about playing games from the 80's or games made for mobile devices it might be comparable. Is that a gaming PC? Still no.

There's absolutely zero excuse for this and I really, really don't know why you're even bothering to try and simp for the seller like this.

Or get the AMD version and hook up a proper GPU

        And….call that a gaming pc?

        • +1

I literally just gave two examples of games that it can handle. Neither an 80's game or one designed exclusively for mobile. Do you need me to link the videos to back up my claims?

Tell me how do you define a gaming pc? Evidently being able to play games is not one of the prerequisites. ATX case and video card? Because all I see is you gatekeeping.

          • -2

@Clear: And I literally described how turning off 90% of the visual features to achieve it doesn't count, in my book.

Link the video that proves my point if you want, the games look like hammered shite.

            • +1

@Ademos: Genshin was at medium and GTA on high. So by your definition anything that runs at less than Ultra is not gaming? It certainly doesn't sell it self as a high end gaming computer but it can still game and does a good job at it.

@Clear: I love that you blatantly lied, then linked to a video that proves that you blatantly lied. The graphics settings for GTA are at 8:45 where you can clearly see the distance scaling and population density/scaling sliders are set to 0, all antialiasing is turned off, and most settings in that particular benchmark are one step above their lowest at "normal". Then you can watch the footage of it looking like complete arse, compared to what it looks like on any decent rig.

I don't get the point in further discussion with someone that's not actually checking their facts, so cheerio.

                • +1

@Ademos: One benchmark of many games. The only one blatantly lying is you by saying it's not a gaming computer when it very blatantly does game.

                  • +1

@Clear: @Clear it doesn't fit their minds eye view of gaming being anything other than max. settings enabled. Maybe they only game on their switch in docked mode because portable mode is a horrible janky 720p resolution.

    • please see just a couple of lines above your comment. No need to gatekeep gaming when there are literal millions of laptops and older desktops with less graphics power than this device being used to play games. Running DOTA 2 or GTA V at 1080p at 90fps seems decent enough for light Windows gaming.

      • -3

Yeah! Without anti-aliasing, most settings on normal or low, population and vehicle density as low as it will go, view distance at minimum, being a jaggy mess with evident pop in starting 20 odd metres away sure. If you don't mind a jank, jaggy mess you too, can own a "gaming PC".

There's literally millions of old cars. That doesn't mean I get to call a modern corolla a sports car because it might be faster than a 80's buick. Simply not how it works mate.

        • If its an 80s buick, a 90s corolla or a 2024 koenigsegg - they all get you from point A to B, you're choosing to pay extra for the options, speed and (profanity) factor.

Whether you like it or not the system is capable of playing games at various settings at 1080p at decent framerates - but guess what? people wanting a proper high/ultra settings everything in game would not even be looking at this in the first place. They would be looking at full desktops with a dedicated GPU.

People wanting a cheap replacement PC that uses very little electricity and is silent, or something for the kids or grandparents, that is capable of browsing the internet, wecam communications, watching streaming video and has the option of some light gaming - would be looking at something like this.

          • @gizmomelb: For sale : GT3 Camry. Its actually a sports car because it can drive around albert park. Anyone that says different is a hater.

Just wanted to say that I got this and it's really good great price and fast got it for my dad he loves it.
    Great Oz Bargain

    • I'm glad the item fitted your needs mate.. some tech commenters on OzB tend to forget that not everyone wants or needs an F1 equivalent PC to do their daily use PC.

I contacted Kamrui about their low quantities they offer on sales and they gave me a discount code for their AMD 5800U based mini PC. I won't post a deal for it as who knows if it's limited quantities or some affiliate code they generated - see link to where limited quantity and affiliate codes are shared on OzB.

My thoughts though on comparing the Intel i7-12650H and the AMD 5800U - both have the same weird case design with the RGB LED lighting - CPU wise the Intel has 2 more cores and is maybe 10% better performing than the AMD 5800U, integrated GPU wise the AMD should be better imo. Trying to find GPU benchmarks for both iGPUs is quite hard, so this is fairly close - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb7bGE9bY94

Gaming specifically on the Ace Magician (which is idential to the Kamrui) can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8SPeIgaKgA&t=1112s

The Kamrui AMD 5800U based mini PC has been cheaper in the past ($489 between 11th-20th of Jan 2024), but with the discount code it's currently the cheapest AMD 5800U based mini PC I can find on amazon ($538.19)
