  • Thanks, got one for our toddler.

    • What track do you use? We got one of those train sets in a box from Costco when they were clearing them. Haven't gotten around to taking a piece of track to compare to other sets. I probably just need to stick a piece in my bag just in case otherwise I never have a piece on hand. Extra track from Hape is so expensive.

      • Ikea is good or you can try aliexpress. They don't all fit between ecosystems. I had to crack out a dremel and sand some pieces further to fit.

        • Yeah, I've read that Ikea is good (but also that they may have changed it) but I never have a piece of track on hand to test it. I'm trying to find a website that states what works and what doesn't but it's not really clear cut. I found some better info on their own website that I'll add to the main post.

Hape is generally compatible with BRIO and Ikea's Lillabo. The track connections between the different systems may differ slightly in tolerance as boretentsu already indicated you can dremel, alternatively you can 3d print the adaptors - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4672882

I got this last time. It’s fine except the switch to set it to off is in between forward and reverse and is quite tricky to accurately trigger for a toddler.
So ends up just stuck in forward and killing battery

    • Agree, drained the battery once, good thing for eneloops. Our brio engine auto turns off after a while which is nice.

  • Damm missed out and that other website is $14.99

  • Damm missed out my's kid new toy.

  • The fwd/reverse button on these are fragile, Amazon replaced no issues of course, but be prepared for the inevitable when giving to your kid

I received my Hape train order today and upon inspection it looked surprisingly similar to the Ikea Lillabo battery operated train

Opening and comparing the internals of both confirmed that they both share similar if not the same features including axels, light up wiring, screw sizes, lower metal housing - https://imgur.com/gallery/GLlJUUl

I would not be surprised if these 2 trains came from the same subcontracted factory / company.

With both trains being roughly the same height; the Hape train will definitely be compatible with the Ikea Lillabo system and vice versa with the Lillabo battery operated train
