did anyone else have to use ID to sign up? i didn't.

    • they didn't ask me for any

  • I'm suprised anyone is even with ing, or mostly only business?

  • Free $50 wohoo!

  • existing ING customer is excluded, when you tick existing customer it ask you to log in and there is promotion code section, don't bother

  • -1

Damn, this is what we get for opening an account to get the PayWave promotion.

I'd much rather have to do nothing than spend $1000 on a paywave card, which is ultimately going to see me eating more fast food.

  • "After getting the $50 you may as well close the account as there are better rates out there"

Exactly what I plan to do especially with this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82809
Is there any terms and conditions saying that the $50 will be withdrawn if we close the account within a certain period of time?

  • Can anyone confirm what "new customer" means?

If we close all our ING accounts, then apply for this promotion, are we considered a "new customer"?

    • +1

most likely not. But you can try calling them and asking? Just start with 'a friend of mine..'

  • Do deposits count as transferring money from Netbank to the ING savings account?

    • +1

if you mean Commonwealth, then as long as the account you transfer it from is the one you linked when signing up for the ING account then yes. It's all explained very clearly in the signup process, and even when you hover over certain areas, even in the internet banking area.

      • Thanks :)

  • Already sign up for the 5% cash back offer last time..
    I guess 99% ozbargainer did…
Anyone can confirm can we close the account and sign up again as a "new customer" ?!

    • -1

Yes, can someone call up and ask?

      • no offense guys, but if you want to know, why don't you call and ask yourself? It's a 24 hour phone line.

        • -1

I'd rather not, in case I get an unfavourable response and it's recorded forever against my name/number.

  • Couldn't verify my ID … have to print the form out and go to the post office. Don't even have a printer, gotta stop by the library arhg.

    • same, verified one but not the other (i just opened a visa account as well this morning)

walked up the road to the P.O. and it's all done apparently - waiting for confirmation via email

  • +1

I've opened and successfully deposited some money from a linked account. I didn't, however, receive any indication after signing up or my deposit that I'd receive the $50 offer. Should it mention this anywhere after entering the coupon/signing up?

    • +1

no it didn't for me.. says in fine print it could take up to two weeks, scroll back through the thread i posted it somewhere

      • +2

Thanks, I did read that, but was just wondering whether they actually confirm the offer itself. Guess we'll just have to wait 2 weeks and see! :)

  • Do you have to call them to close the account?
Or is there a way to close it from the online site so that the person on the phone doesn't see that you've only deposited $1 to get the $50 bonus and bailing straight after that?

    • why not actually keep the account open? it's fee-less so who cares?

      • +2

Because then he can open another one as a "new customer" in future promotions?

      • +3

So he can get $50 next time they do the offer ?

Also, you can close accounts over the phone.
I did it with my 2nd everday account recently.
I somehow managed to open 2 at once and got $50 bonus for both,
        in a previous promotion.
That was a fluke though and I didn't even mean to do it.

  • the $1 went into my ing account today but no $50 to be seen :(

    • Just wait a few weeks. I doubt they are in a big hurry to send it but it will happen. ;)

    • i've said at least twice already in this thread, and also quoted the fine print in a different post, that it takes up to two weeks.

  • it says deposit by 01/12/2012…so I guess you would have to wait until then to see that $50 has been added to your balance…
    just sayin'

    • you guys are after instant gratification! *sigh

  • I have to confirm idenitity by post, I've only got 6 days to make the deposit, will never happen in time! DAMMIT!

    • Ring them up and I'm sure they will accommodate you.

    • +1

no worries .. it says deposit by 01/12/2012 . you have 1 month and 6 days..

  • I've just joined. But I wasn't asked for any ID at all. Anyone else who was not asked??

    • you'll only be asked for ID if you apply for an Orange Everyday Visa account

  • I just rang ING and they confirmed it takes two weeks for the $50 to appear.

  • Awesome deal, thanks for posting.

  • They're telling me its for new customers only. Grrer

  • Oh great. They've changed there terms and condiments. Does anyone have a copy of the old ones?

    • for what purpose?

    • +5

They've changed there terms and condiments. Does anyone have a copy of the old ones?

Sure, what kind of old condiments are you after? Chutney? Ketchup? Mustard?

      Swype much? :)

  • +1

Originally it said for new savings maximizer customers. Now it says for new customers.

    • oh right - t&c are usually subject to change unfortunately

  • I signed up agreeing to the others, generally changes need to be informed inwritin to affect previous people :)

  • Thank you for your message.

I'm pleased to advise you are definitely eligible for the $50 bonus and this will automatically be credited to your account within the first 2 weeks of receiving your deposit.

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

    Regards,
    Michelle

    • Did you tell them you previously had accounts with ING?

  • New or old?

  • +1

Mmm… deposited some money in and no $50… been 2 days lol..
BUT…. has anyone confirmed their welcome bonus Interest rate to be 5.35% ? Mine says a lousy 3.50% and if I want to get extra .75% i need to deposit $200 per month!!! What happened to the welcome bonus rate?

    My Interest Rate Details
Current standard variable interest rate 3.50% pa
    Interest accrued this month $0.01
Financial year to date interest $0.00

    • +1

My Offers - Participating - mine shows 5.35 for 4 months.

      • +1

Mmmm Thanks for letting me know… mine says:

        My Offers & Visa Entertainment
From time to time, we will offer our customers exclusive offers and promotions - please visit My Offers again to keep up to date with what's on.

It has not 5.35 for 4 months :(
i mustve done something wrong in the startup….
Im certain I put the code in too… although it disappears the moment you press next…

        gotta call them monday

        • that's odd, i have a visa entertainment tab and a bonus interest tab in that section

        • +2

I rang them today because I got the same message as @mirage under the participating offers section.

The rep has confirmed that if you are a new customer for the savings maximiser, will definitely get the 5.35% rate despite interest details showing 3.5% in the account.

When you have made a deposit say this month, by the end of the month, you'll see the bonus interest with the welcome rate.

As for the $50 bonus, there's no way to confirm it now, as long as you have done the correct procedure by entering the promo code BONUS in capital letters during application,$50 should be credited within 2 weeks, if not then give them a call.

I'll just wait and see. FYI I just opened 2 days ago and made a small deposit to give it a try.

        • Is you balance over $1? If your balance is below $1, there is a high chance that bonus interest will not show up in the system. I had this issue before with ING.

  • Epic FAIL! (The system screwed me)

I managed to open 2 account, but only have access to the 2nd. (ING, please have someone ready and waiting for my call)

I entered the BONUS on the form, but pressing the next button caused the code to disappeared. So I pressed the borwsers back button to try and re-enter the code, and the system throws up an error and tells me to start again. I start again and complete the process.

But now I have 2 emails referring to the 2 accounts I opened. The first account should be entitled to the BONUS, the second account of course is not. But I only have access to the 2nd account!

    • +1

The code disappears for everyone when you hit next, it's generally a part of an entered string being pulled into the application, it doesn't mean anything.

      • +1

Yup. I agree with this. Mine disappears after clicking next.

    • +1

Hey. I just received 4 envelopes in the mail due to the same mistake :)I just rang and cancelled my first account which I didn't get to setup a pin for. If you think their system's a shambles you can always play stupid and try to get a PIN for the first account by telephone but then you risk losing out on your $50 if they catch your bluff and try to screw you. The customer service officer confirmed that it will take (up to?) 2 weeks to receive the $50 from the day they received my generous dollar.

  • +1

Has anyone got $50 yet? Also did you have to verify your account after fast tracking identification at the post office????

  • -1

Does the $50 show up as interest? Because if it does, not declaring it might get you in trouble with the tax office.

    • +1

no one knows yet, because as stated it takes two weeks to show.

  • My deposit hasn't shown up and it's been a fair few days, i'm guessing they're manually verifying it? :/

    • is it more than 2 weeks of you depositing $$ in your account?

      • thanks ozshaz, saves me saying it for the 50th time, including the one right above his post lol

  • Rofl never mind guys, my account number goes something like this ***1 1449 and i put in ***1 1994.

    Shit shit shit.

    All good now.

  • Called up after ING screwed up opening my accounts.

Got the $50 goodwilled for me. But — I think I'll be stuck on the crappy 3.5% interest not 5.35. Worth calling them about again?

    • +1

Was the $50 classified as interest?

    • +1

Is the $50 already in your account?

      Thanks.

  • I made a deposit into my account 4 days ago and it still hasn't shown up. Is something wrong? I triple checked the BSB and Account number and it's all correct. Made the deposit through bankwest's pay anybody online.

    • Call them up, it worked for me and the staff are actually helpful :D

      • You didn't see your deposit as well? I'll call them up tomorrow.

  • +1

is there a way to check once you have signed up if the BONUS code promo worked?

  • signed up and now it will not let me log in?? have all the numbers bsb account and client number but will not let me sign in?? confused now?? I guess I will call them tomorow? anyone else not able to log in?

    • you don't use the bsb and account number to log in, you use the client number.

  • +1

I had some issues opening the account too, they called me back and applied for a new one. Transferred from my linked account and had $50 deposited the next day.
    Happy Oz bargainer :-)

  • +1

Just got my $50 today. Signed up last week. Happy kid.

    • +2

i also got mine, but they taxed it rofl so i got a net of $27 after the $23 witholding tax

      woot!

      still free either way.

      • +1

thats 46% tax..did you provide the tfn?

        • no i didn't, that's why it's taxed so badly

am going to provide it now but i doubt it'll make a difference now

        • Ring them up and they can possibly fix it for you.

      • Yep I did the same thing. I didn't have my TFN on me when I made the account then forgot to put it in later then BAM, taxed $23 on the $50 payment. Now I have to wait until July next year to get it back. Sigh.

        • oh well, it's still $27 for free i guess.

        • +2

Emailed them yesterday and just got this reply:

"To claim back any tax already deducted from your account within this financial year 2012 - 2013 simply contact us via a secure service and ING DIRECT will arrange reimbursement. For any previous financial years please contact the ATO directly who will reimburse you with this.

To contact us via a secure service you can either send us a ‘My Message’ through your online banking or call and speak with a Direct Associate on 133 464 or +61 2 9028 4077 (if you are overseas) 24 hours, 7 days a week."

          Seems simple enough!

        • Great news. :D

        • i presume i need to provide my tax file number to them in this message?

        • Probably that's why they stated secure form.

        • +1

done and done - i'll update when they reply

          thanks

        • The same thing happened to me, and when I called them the rep told me that I have to wait and get my refund through the tax office, despite me reading out johnno's message to her. Apparently they're only able to do refunds on the tax if it's their mistake. She recommended that I call back during business hours when there's a manager on, so I might do that on Monday! If anyone gets a refund, keep us posted!

        • i've found from calling a couple of times the rep didn't seem too confident in their knowledge, it seemed i knew more which was disturbing.

        • +1

after messaging them my TFN and query, they replied today (haha a BANK replying to you on SUNDAY!) saying the $23 tax will be refunded to me within 48 hours.

        • Yep I just got the same response:

          "Thank you for your message.

Now that you have lodged your Tax File Number, you will not be charged Resident Withholding Tax in future.

As requested, we will refund the $23 charged and please allow 48 business hours for this to be processed."

          Extremely happy with their service!

        • Just called them up and they said they'll refund the $23 after all. Thanks, ING!

        • Was just refunded this morning :D

        • good work, still waiting for mine but i'm not in a hurry. Got the VISA in the mail today, now i'll get to work on the 5% rebates for paywave transactions. Makes fuel even cheaper with an 8c docket and a 5% rebate :D - groceries too.

        • i eventually got the other $23 back today despite dealing with someone initially who had NFI what they were talking about.

  • I got my $50 today as well, 6 days after making the first deposit. It shows as a bonus interest.
    All's good.

  • i'm excited! i hope mine comes this monday or tuesday.

  • Got my $50 today. :)

    I only deposited $1.01.

    • +2

I only deposited $1.00, and assuming the rate stayed the same it would have taken me ~75 years to accrue $50 dollars in "interest" otherwise. With your extra cent of investment you could be living it up 2 months sooner, so I guess every cent does count in the long run.
