    This might shock you but shoes can be made from leather/suede, silk and wool. I don't mean to deal two heavy blows but those materials come from animals.

      Leather running shoes don't sound very good haha.

      I think that was the point…There are plenty of more modern, eithical and sustainable tech materials around these days which are lighter and cheaper as well. No doubt some people will be clinging onto their leather hush puppies and ugg boots though.
