These are banned in the majority of metro councils.

Don't be a (profanity) and buy one unless you live on a big block of land.

      Source?

        Google

You'll find the majority have definitions around them making them illegal unless they're flumed to prevent excessive smoke and/or are used for cooking.

        • +1

95% of the fire pit regulations let the councils pretend that they are promoting responsible use, and then they add in the cooking clause so that they don't have to enforce them.

This was the case in Brisbane until they changed the legislation a couple of years ago.

"provided the smoke does not impact neighbours"
Every household that burns stuff creates smoke that impacts neighbours, the general environment and the health of everyone in the vicinity, including the people burning that shit.

  • Shipping is $69 to Hobart, even with OnePass….

$39 to Melbourne with OnePass - shipping is more than the cost of the fire pit!

  • Definitely needs a mesh lid, would not want to buy one without it.

    • +1

      what's the mesh lid for?

From the internet "This screen protects you from the flames and ensures that it is restricted to just the pit. It protects your patio and backyard from sparks"

I've found them super important, especially when the fire gets big and starts shooting out more random sparks. Somewhat prevents other things from catching a spark/catching fire or injuring the user. It's not foolproof but helps immensely

        • ah ic, tks for the useful insight!

  • Thanks OP got one.

  • No thickness of cast iron or weight is specified. Might last 2 years if left outside when not in use.

  • $39 shipping Sydney Metropolitan. Kind of kills the deal for me.

    • The deal is that this costs $73 delivered. It is this price that you should compare to the same or similar item sold elsewhere.
