How do they target those bringing in 'illegal stuff'? They don't carry a sign with them.

You're just describing procedures in any international airport in the world. They do random checks.

Is the general file rule that if you have a baby and a wheelchair then people think you’re honest and can’t bring in illegal stuff? Good to know for future activities…

  • is it good time to visit in May? How many days will be enough for first time in japan ?

looks like deal does not cover cherry blossom dates ? https://www.tokyolocalized.com/post/japan-cherry-blossom-for….

These "how many days is enough for country X" questions aren't very answerable.

There's nothing to say that a visitor has to see the place from top to bottom in a single trip. Just go for as long as what suits you, and see whatever appeals to you.

    • 4-7 days per city

    • +2

These deals will never cover April and the cherry blossoms. There's no need, ppl will go regardless.

As for time, I mean, you could easily spend 2 weeks in Tokyo alone. Just spend as much time as you can, it's a great place.

The only time I've ever had an entire row to myself both flights to and from Narita, departing from Sydney, was with Jetstar. I flew in October 2016 and the flights were empty. It was great lol.

    • Last year with ANA there was 7 rows with only 3 people in them and none of them could be booked. I figured they were carrying extra heavy freight.

    • I had a third of a JAL 787 to myself in Aug 2022 before JP opened back up to tourist.

Never had so much room on a plane before.

    Thanks OP.
Just booked Syd to Osaka direct in Late August for $337 return . Had Jetstar Club access so got the deal a day early.

    • Was that your final total price?

2x Adults 1 Child and 1 infant was 1091 with payment surcharge

Flown on these free return fight sales before (with friends/solo), never had an issue. First time with family (2 year old), so we'll see how the 9hr flight goes - but can't wait, love this country and all the different times of the year I've visited, never had a bad experience.

$425 direct / per person, pretty hard to beat.

  • More like Jetfail… right guys!? Right!?

    I'll let myself out.

  • Good deal out of BNE and/or Cairns

Did this last year with Jetstar and never again. Ended up in Cairns overnight and on next days flight to Tokyo. When it came to reimbursement of hotel when I came back they completely refused and said that they don’t do that. Even after linking their policy to them. Took threatening legal action that they said they would do it as a one off gesture of kindness.

    • Travel insurance would have covered the cost of the hotel and/or you booking an alternative flight. Why didn't you claim on your insurance? Sometimes I actually get a better flight with a better airline for no additional cost (Except for the insurance excess) when my original flight is cancelled or delayed.

Similar thing happened to me. Jetstar cancelled the Cairns to Japan leg last year and I was stuck in Cairns. At the time, before the Virgin Cairns to Japan flights, there were no other options.

If it were from a major airport, there would have been many more options to get to Japan and I would have organised something else.

So, we were left in Cairns while they scrambled everyone onto flights to Japan over the next few days. No option for other airlines because of the regional airport. So take that into account when thinking about using Jetstar through Cairns.

        • Another option is to fly from cairns to Brisbane and then fly to Japan from Brisbane?

  • Does this include Business Class flights or just Economy?

    Thanks OP!

1200 bucks for 2 people from Syd to Osaka return. Direct flights.
Hard to resist with luggage 30kg and extra leg room included.

Bear in mind that the advertised prices on their website exclude some taxes.

Bear in mind that the advertised prices on their website exclude some taxes.

      That is illegal.

More likely the cheaper seats had already been taken leaving cheap but less cheap seats.

  • These fares are going pretty quickly.

Not sure there will be cheap cheap fares for tomorrow.

  • Suppose I pay for a bundle on the outbound leg. Do I get the bundle for free on the return flight?

    • No, you still have to pay for the bundle on the free return flight.

      • +1

Ok thanks. So for a $550-599 base flight, adding a bundle both ways will bring the total to around $800. That's still quite high imo.

The ANA package seems better value considering the domestic flight inclusion and direct route (from Sydney at least).

        • Which ANA package is everyone talking about ?

Basically for ~$200 more, get full service airline, direct flight (from Sydney) and free domestic flight in Japan. Plus earn some Velocity points and SC.

            • @ddhar: I think you can get direct flights from Sydney to Osaka on this deal.

              9hrs35min.

Not knocking the deal but I've just returned on the Cairns - Osaka return route with Jetstar (paid around $1900 per ticket return during peak). It was a terrible, terrible experience. By far the worst longer flight I've taken in memory. Bring your own food (ran out of food selections, we had pre-paid meals), BYO water (one drink service on a 7 hour flight), BYO entertainment (or pay to use the screen), blanket (yep blankets are for sale), powerbank (yes the in seat USB ports are powered down if you don't buy the $13.99 entertainment package). My son got excited about the 787 electronically tinted windows, until he realised the crew determine when your allowed to look out the window and when they want it blacked out (which they switch up and down randomly during the flight). Be prepared to be snarled at by the cabin crew who either aren't paid enough or just hate their jobs generally. My 8 year old daughter took a headphone set as we walked onto the plane which the staff asked for it to be returned when they realised we didn't buy the entertainment - just wow. Jetstar sent me a survey just as the plane landed back in Oz and I replied with polite, honest, direct feedback - someone must have agreed as to my absolute astonishment they sent me a $100 voucher. I'm usually pretty happy on the ADL-SYD / ADL-BNE / ADL-MCY Jetstar flights which I take regularly for work, so I don't think I have high standards, but this was just a new low for "budget" air travel. BTW Japan with kids was great ;-)

    • +1

Honestly I don't really do the extras on budget flights - Airasia has it right with the no anything - people that want entertainment take their own…if you need power, take a power bank - food is a concern as a diabetic but regardless either carrying something or buying something prepaid is usually ok… Accessibility to drinking water is probably the worst…… Jetstar offer so much as addons but tbh without the bulky screens on the seat backs the space in the seats is a lot more comfortable with airasia! That said, this is an Aus to Japan flight - I've not done it in years and for $700 or so for 2 people (assuming no issues) I'm looking forward to re-experiencing things.. it's been too long..

This is why I like ANA because when they're not serving they have everything setup for you to grab in the centre galleys.

  • I thought people hated Jetstar?

    lol

    • +1

      They like the prices.

    • +2

It is supermarket hating month. Jetstar hate resumes in Feb unless Murdoch comes up with new clickbait.

      • +1

ABC propaganda will balance it out

    • +3

I continue to fly with them domestically and internationally because I've never had an issue. I don't discount other people's experiences (especially those that had a cancelled flight)… Maybe I'm lucky in that regard? I do think some people need to dial down their expectations with these low cost airlines however.

Been to Japan several times with these free return flight sales, $275/return was the cheapest I've ever got. Now going again and also really cheap flights to Seoul. I completely understand what I am getting for the price, bum on seat essentially.

is this deal done now? doesn't seem to be offering any $0 return flights for flights in october/november this year

    • Did they have those dates? Seemed like it was just the same dates from the sale a couple of months ago. They will have another return for free sale in a few months covering dates later in the year/early next year.

      • yeh i selected within the dates featured. bizarre

    • I had the Jetstar club thing already, there were $0 returns in October when I booked my flight 11pm yesterday

    • Couldn’t see any $0 return flights since this morning for any of the dates we wanted
