  • Just keep in mind the human / pet / vehicle / detection just doesn't seem to work well at night time with IR.

It is really good at detecting spiders and moths though…

      • … and those floating spirit globes.

      • yea my reolink all detect spiders and month all the time it pretty annoying

  • Be aware that each camera is only 2K in the duo, in case you need to zoom…

    • Would have thought these are 4K. I think battery operated ones are 2K+ it mentions.
No specifics details of each camera so assume both are described ie 4K.

Would have thought these are 4K.

No, each of the two cameras is 2K and the two images are joined, real-time, to produce a 4K image.

        • Right. Thanks. Misleading how it is represented for people like me. :)

    • +1

      By default, we assume 2K is 2048 × 1080 (or more than 1080) and 4K is 3840 x 2160.

However it's never been really standardised and the specs for this cam read the (composite) video is:

      Default: 4608X1728 (8.0 megapixels) at 20 fps

So good that you pointed it out, as somebody would think each of the cameras is 4K is (3840 x 2160) while neither of them is.

Think they got the same guy designing ‘gaming’ routers doing outdoor cams now. This this gives me nightmares.

    • Looks like the cameras from dues ex lol

  • Are these any better at recording nighttime motion , I’ve got a 510 model and it’s terrible blurry at that, great during the day.

  • My reolink keeps switching back and forth from normal mode to IR mode at night. Unfortunately after 12 months, now I kept it in IR mode all the time.

  • does it need subscriptions to get all benefits?

    • +1

no sub needed. storage is using in camera local sd-card.

      • thanks. Looks like a good option. can add a 256gb card.
Does it need constant power supply on this one? Nothing mentions. Its not a battery operated camera?

        • +1

constant 240vac is required to the supplied power adapter. usually a 2M cable between camera and power adapter . not battery powered.

          • @jk23423432: ah ok and the POE need the NVR to supply power and saves to internal drive?

The ones powered by 240v and POE record continuously and the battery one is only motion detention that starts recording?

POE supplies the power over the network cable. One end of the network cable goes into the camera, the other end goes into either a POE-enabled port on a switch, a POE injector, or an NVR (I don't know if all NVRs are compatible and provide power over ethernet, I never looked)

I've set my POE to only record to microSD when there is motion. I imagine the setting is the same for NVR

The product page is pretty comprehensive.

@pizzaguy: Thanks. Im new to these cameras so have to learn a bit on installation and wiring.

      • i am wrong.
a paid sub is required for cloud stored recordings.

        • yeah most do for cloud storage.

What what im after is record internally and have access to all functions on the camera without needing subscription.

          • +1

@Bruno28: you do not need cloud storage to enable any function on the reolink cameras, well I haven't found anything yet.

what I do is set up email notification on the camera app and have it send an email with the video of the event , so I have a record independent of the camera's storage, so not needing for any cloud storage as a backup.
