I am moving from an XPS to a 7000X I swear I could fit the whole XPS case in there
Im never going to pay over $1k for video card ever.
I took the PNY 4080 from recent sale at $1499.
Assuming this is still available, should I return that and get this instead to save $100 and a better brand?In my opinion at this price comparison ($100 diff) don't sweat it.
If it was a wider price spread and you don't mind the prospect of trading up in the future, the 7900 XTX will crush any game you'll run on it so I would endorse that choice for this purpose. Except in cases where you specifically need Nvidia's optimisation to meet a baseline level of performance (Stable Diffusion, 3D modelling, VR etc.) all your needs are likely met by either choice of GPU.
We all hope our expensive purchases will 'hold up' for 5 years or more, but beyond the immediate future it's highly uncertain. One of these cards could fall to $1300 overnight and we'd all get buyer's remorse for missing a better deal - it'll happen eventually, and you can't control it, but you can make sure you'll value what you buy at this point in time.
