The deals you link to are in a private FB group.

    • +1

Yes correct. Let me take a couple of screenshots for people that don't have access.

  • 75% OFF ex demo stock

  • +3

    Godspeed

  • +2

    Any bargain?

    • +1

No bargain since they don't sell Dyson 😅

      • +14

Dysons are never a bargain, way overpriced.

        • +8

          I still don’t regret buying one 🤭

        • +1

And i was joking, Dyson was the reason they went down hill 😅

          • +2

@boomramada: 100% correct. Just like Nokia turning up their nose at slab phones, Godfreys regarded Dyson a hard pass.

Why they never saw the risk or need for change after sales figures started rolling in I'm not sure.

            • +1

@bjd533: Plus finally, slack and bored Godfreys employees can find a real job. There is a store near me, a massive store, hardly anyone walks in to the store for hours lol

And add Blockbuster to your list :)

        • +1

Exactly overpriced and overhyped. Nearly all brands have interchangeable battery now except dyson, and this is the main reason why I will never buy another Dyson again. Even Ryobi is doing vaccum now, watch out dyson.

            • @xdpx: That sounds great. Did you follow a tutorial, or just work out how to do it?

            • @xdpx: I have total satisfaction with my Bosh, I was lucky to get 2 batteries when I bought it and it is super quiet. And I can use the same batteries on other Bosh garden tools. My old dyson, the battery now last around 10 mins, I am not going to spend money to repace the battery, I use the vac more for dusting, this will be the last dyson in my home.

          • @Bluering48: Regardless, Many people will buy Dyson just for the brand name/value.. Just like people buy Mercedes, Apple products etc

            • -1

@TopG: You forgot to mention investment bankers buying BMW M3s

            • @TopG: Many people eat mackers days of the week, it's their choice and I don't have to follow the crowd.

              • -1

@Bluering48: @Bluering48 Agreed, Good on you for choosing not to follow the crowd.

What I have seen is many Australians are so brand obsessed with many things they follow these things/brands to the T. AT the end of the day its their choice.

                For instance

                1. White girls with LV bags
                2. Guys with RM Williams shoes
                3. Melbourne folks with Kathmandu Puffer Jackets
                4. Teenage girls with Ghanda/Champion/White Fox Sweatshirts
                5. Suburban homes with Dyson fans/vacuums
                6. General public obsession with all things Designer
                7. All office employees with Frank Green water bottles. (The latest trend is the Stanley Cup, Haven't seen one yet at my workplace ;-p)
                8. Women with Tiffany Bracelet or Cartier Love Bracelet or Van Cleef Alhambra bracelet

                and the list goes on..

        • Overpriced but the best battery operated vacuum

  • Is it really off everything? Every store?

    • +12

yes, i just bought the whole store since it is 75% off and i will convert it into a house so i can't stop paying rent.

  • +5

according to one of the store employees, it’s 75% off ex demo or display, 25 to 50% off brand new at selected stores which are closing down

    Sydney stores: Miranda, Chatswood, Bankstown

    • Thanks!!

    • +4

would recommend calling before going because some stores may have already been ‘cleaned out’

      • +3

we all know who did that 😭😭 🫵🏼

    • +1

Oh is it only these 3 stores? what about the others?

  • +10

75% off a Vacuum used by 100s/1000s of people should be normal price lol, what was the discount before. Rest of normal sales are crap as usual, when these sales get advertised on 7 News and the like it just marketing and mediocre prices.

    • +4

I got 75% of a pullman carpet extractor never used, but open, $199 down from $800

  • +32

Can I get a bowling ball adaptor?

  • +14

There is a reason they went belly up. Fake discounts on high price products and shoddy service.

  • +14

    Maybe Gerry will be next.

    • -1

      No

    • But what about their employees? Dilligaf?

    • +9

We don't want Gerry to be next. Although what he did it's not right. We still need more competition. The less competition there is, the higher the prices we pay.

      • Without Gerry JB Hi-Fi (including The Good Guys) would be the only major player in consumer electronics market

        • +4

And The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi are pretty much the same company. (Under the same Umbrella). So not much competition.

        • Kogan. Appliances online, Bing lee to name a few

          • +4

@aka nioh: Difficult for us regionals. Never lived somewhere where AO will deliver too.

          • +3

@aka nioh: As much as I don't like Gerry, I dislike Ruslan more.

        • +2

          Retro vision

          • @cobknob: doubt anyone outside WA shops there now that every other states basically closed their retravision stores

      • Agreed.
There's not much competition for JB and Harvey.
I see the odd store of Betta electrical and Stan cash in my travels around melb.
Otherwise its Amazon or buying from the manufacturer.

        • Stan Cash

Now that's a bringing back some memories from the 80's.

I thought all Stan Cash stores were gone decades ago.

          • @JimB: I got my washer and drier from them online for a good price, their phone sales was pretty good too. Was just dropshipped from the manufacturer anyway

    • +2

      Gerryfreys

    • Gerry won't be the next his shops are all in his own properties. As in his main income probably from rental than from retail

      • Gerry won't be the next his shops are all in his own properties. As in his main income probably from rental than from retail

If the shops stop making money how will the shops afford to pay him rent?

      • My experience with Harvey Norman, when you want to return an item, it's torture. After sales service left to be desired.

  • +1

If anyone becomes aware of a Q Revo or S8 Pro Ultra on a deal around Sydney please let me know!

  • +2

I reckon if someone bought the Brand trademark and made it an online store only, you would make good money

    • Smart man. That's the way.

    • +18

Let's hope it doesn't end up as another business under the kogan umbrella

      • Honestly i wouldnt mind buying the domain and customer database/logistics etc. Might send an inquiry

        • They're not closing all stores, it's gone into voluntary administration to stave off bankruptcy. They'll probably try and sell the remaining stores to a buyer and gip their current creditors.

That will fail, and then you can buy the name and site for SFA 👍

    • How kogan buy dicksmith?

      • They probably made an offer to the administrators

  • +9

Bankstown store has been cleared out. To save anyone from going. Just walked past it.

    • +5

This is either very helpful (thank you) or a brilliant way of saving stock 😛

      • +12

I forgot to add, I currently have about 10 vacuums that I'm reselling on marketplace.

  • +2

Do we have a list of which stores are closing? Looking for Brisbane specifically

  • They are in liquidation; forget about the warranty
    https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/major-austra…

    • +1

      Manufacturer warranty would still apply

      • Is that 12 month? or 24 months?

        • +2

Depends on the manufacturer, and if they have a presence in Australia.

    • Voluntary Administration (options available) is not the same as Liquidation (will become deregistered). While liquidation appears likely to occur, they may propose a DOCA and trade on. However people should assume no warranty as a factor when purchasing

    IMPORTANT NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS
    PRODUCTS PURCHASED DURING THE
    ADMINISTRATION OF GODFREYS

On 30 January 2024, Administrators were appointed to the Godfreys group of

rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including their rights to repairs,
replacements or refunds as provided for under that law.

However, during the administration (on and from 30 January 2024), Godfreys is
no longer offering additional rights to customers including but not limited to:
    1. express, voluntary or extended warranties
    2. manufacturer warranties on Godfreys brand products
    3. change of mind or money back guarantee refunds, exchanges and
    replacements

By making a purchase during the administration, customers acknowledge that
they do not have any of these additional rights against Godfreys.
Any signage, packaging, documentation (including warranty

Customers who purchase products during the administration maintain their rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including their rights to repairs, replacements or refunds as provided for under that law.

Do not accept this at face value

Yes you retain your rights under ACL. HOWEVER, If the retailer you bought it from no longer exists then you will have a very difficult time enforcing your rights. While the retailer does exist and is trading (even in voluntary administration) you can use your ACL rights. Once that retailer disappears you'll have a lot more trouble.

      Beware

  • +1

The Godfreys in Unley SA had no vacuums in stock

    • +4

      No vacuums that suck(s).

    • The bargains were all sucked up?

  • +1

Didnt realise it was only for the stores that are closing - tried ringing a store up. Only 3 stores are closing in WA. The rest are in the eastern states.

    • What 3 stores?

      • +2

@Charleston @carlJack The 3 stores closing down in WA are at Whitfords, Baldivis and Busselton.

I rang Whitfords who said they only have 40% off brand new vacuum cleaners. The 75% off stock has sold out

    • yeah.. please do tell

    • +3

Thanks, I was about to check out my local but it's too fn hotttt

  • +1

Any store closing down in SA?

  • any idea how I can buy Godfreys intellectual property?

    • Speak to the liquidator (PWC). But very unlikely they are going to sell you IP - they will be looking to sell the whole business as a going concern.

  • +1

List of the closing down stores?

  • +8

First and last OzB deal post this store will ever have. Lol

  • +1

Waiting for someone to say this deal sucks

  • A couple of vacuums left in Miranda. Managed to get a Miele Triflex HX1 at a great price brand new.

  • +4

The problem with Godfrey's is that they didn't stock Dyson.

Not selling the GOAT vacuum was a mistake. Whenever we walked past, no one was ever in store, not sure how they profited. They obviously didnt.

Just sell miele, dyson and bosch (german made). And have a accessory page selling usb cables, power banks, screen protectors and cases.

      • +2

You're missing Sebo, the bee's knees of vacuums (yes, even more-so than Miele).

I have a Sebo Felix and yeah, it looks like your grandma's vacuum, but the thing is built like a tank, can properly clean carpets, and will easily last 15+ years. Can't say that for any expensive-yet-cheaply-built Dyson crap.

        • I’d love a Sebo stockist in Australia

        • -3

Never heard of this random c-tier brand. Sounds like something you'd get because you didn't know about Dyson.
