Also available in black or white for same price, $50 saving not bad

    • Is there a specific glowing review you can point us to that justifies this extreme price? This isn't far off the cost of my Fractal Torrent

      • +2

        Fractal torrent 544 x 242 x 530 11kg
        Vs
        Fractal Terra 218 x 153 x 343 mm 4kg

Not much competition with cases this size and weight that can fit in large cards so I guess there's more of premium for the portability. It's also a PC case that doesn't look like a PC case, just not many alternatives if that's what you're looking for compared to the torrent.

      • +5

Your fractal torrent is a performance case which is made from plastic, steel and glass to give the best performance and the aesthetic delight of an infected wound.

Like comparing a hammer to a painting. One is for work and one is for pleasure

        • -3

You sure you're looking at the Torrent? It looks better than both of these.

          • +1

@The Almighty Dollar: I think it's different strokes different folks, front of the Torrent reminds me of those newer BMW grills, the Terra kind of looks like it could be an air filter though

        • -1

It's like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Mitsubishi mirage. Anyway I asked for a glowing review. Nobody could provide so I guess it's just an expensive mirage.

          • +2

@Budju: OK so I had to get my OWN review and this is it.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKiFk7tBTLg

Compared to the Dan case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LdxMEP65h4

He didn't sound overly impressed with either case.

            • +1

              @Budju: Good find.
Thermals are fine but notably loud when fans come close to the case walls and cannot use the all the space available inside.
Likes the excellently thought out ease of installation, build quality and access but it is not suitable for a high end build.
              Only midrange builds, not performance.
Seems like it cannot move lots of air without noise and limited to mid range hardware

              • @PlaunsJanus: Yeah the noise thing would annoy me quite a bit. Sounds like you want something pretty low end in this case to make it work well. Nothing high end performance wise to keep the heat down and dimensionally fit within the case.

              • +1

@PlaunsJanus: Rarely hear mine running with i9-14900K .. just on the desk next to me about 50cm away.

  • +9

    Mmm. Matcha flavour…

    • +2

      I'll have extra boba please.

      Half ice, no sugar.

  • 7800X3D + 4080 in something this size has been my plan but just.. cooling worry..

    • +3

I think that cooling worry is justified..

      • +2

Not with those parts, it will be chilly even with a 7900xtx or 4090.

The only issue with Terra is you can only run up to a 13700k/7800x3d before it starts getting audible, because air cooler heatpipes are kinda bad at dealing with heat density, and 67mm means either axp120x67 with turbulance or you bend a L12s down 3mm.

Even a nh-d15 is barely an improvement over a 120mm tower and will lose to a good 120mm rad + block on a AM5 or 1700 cpu, despite having literally double the cooling power in theory (and in practice with older CPUs with no density issues).

        • From memory this case has pretty average airflow. I would rather a less good looking mesh style case.

          • @Aureus: I'm looking at mine now next to me and airflow looks pretty good .. no dust protection though.

    • +1

you can run 7800x3d 4090 near silently in cases half the size of the Terra (zs-lrtx, u-atx etc) , this ain't an issue

only for 14900k or 7950x3d do you need a 240mm rad.

      • i9-14900K is running quietly in my FD Terra .. about 40cm away, I rarely hear anything … I need to find some heavy tasks though.

      Different market tho

  • +1

Friendly reminder: don’t choose a cooler that is too tall or card that is too thick - even if it supports them doesn’t mean u will have a good user experience especially if you are planning to put it on ur desktop - noise will kill u

    • turbulance isnt an issue if your finstack is between the fan and side panel, L12s, L12ge etc.

    • I'm using the Noctua NH-L9i cooler … but looks like I had a heap more clearance with a GFX card. Maybe something to upgrade in the future.

Zero noise with my Asus ROG LOKI .. fan never runs .. really need to find some high power tasks to give it a run.

      • Do you have a link for your build?

        • not sure where to create the links but there's not much to the build - just these 7 items (and no GFX card)

          Fractal Design Terra
          i9-14900K
          Noctua NH-L9i
          Asus Z790-I
          Asus ROG LOKI
          Crucial T700 PCIe Gen 5
          32Gb DDR5 RAM

          • @matt-ozb: You planning on getting a gpu?

            • @ar7ist: No .. I'm just doing basic stuff … but it's nice peace-of-mind with 14th Gen i9 so that I know things can't be much faster for my basic needs.

  • +1

That's pretty, why does it cost so much

    • +5

      Aluminum cnc

      • -3

From the pictures, there's no cnc. Just folded and punched sheet metal, which is the cheapest type.

        • +3

          From their website:
Terra incorporates boutique design features such as thick panels cut from anodized aluminum, CNC-milled details and FSC-certified solid walnut….

8mm anodized aluminum CNC milled face plate. Which is the cheapest type?

    • I had the same question.

    • they are trying to be the "apple" of pc cases

just like asus ROG branding for pc parts trying to be the "apple" of hardware branding

  • +1

Adore this case, will be using it for my next build.

  • +8

Finally, some PC cases that aren't gawdy LED laden trash.

    • Fractal do another case called the Ridge which is also a very sleek mITX case. They can be pricey, and they can be expensive to build in due to ITX being an expensive form factor, but damn they look nice.

  • +2

Came in to say this is the best case I've ever had, perf on par w open air rigs, v flexible, looks gorgeous 👏👏👏 no regrets

Oh yea, just cause clearance for CPU cooler is 48cm W a 2 slot GPU, do not max out the height, the CPU cooler fan makes a weird humming sound due to the proximity to the metal grill (luckily I had a bit of wiggle room to shift it away). I went W the biggest one I could find: Thermalright AXP90-X47 (Pure Copper Version) on a 7600x, am pretty happy w it but it honestly gets a little too toasty for me 🥲 esp in summer

  • What GPU can run CS2 comfortably and fit in this case?

  • This is gorgeous

  • can't use AIO cooler for this one.

  • I personally prefer the Lian Li Dan A4-H2O or the Formd T1 over this - both can support an AIO so can run a beefier system.

  • Still rocking my ncase m1.

Where do I put my DVD drive gosh

    • +1

      In the garbage bin.

      • okay, now what do i do!? it's not loading

  • Are all motherboards compatible with all cases thesedays? It’s been maybe 15 years since I built a PC and ready to build again.

    • -1

with an ATX mid-tower case yes. this is an ITX small form factor case so you will need an ITX motherboard + do a lot of research beforehand.

  • wow, this is pretty.

  • That's a beautiful case

  • Realllllly nice case. Did my first ever pc build in an itx (lian li tu150). Would love to swap everything over to this, but its just so tedious doing small form factor when youre a nub

  • -1

Isn't Thermaltek Tower 200 sexier? And cheaper too.

    • hell no. this is for the minimalist crowd

  • r/sffpc most circle jerked case

  • +1

I have Fractal Design Terra with my i9-14900K .. right next to me now .. it is definitely a pleasure building and using a beautifully crafted aluminum CNC case.

Super compact and feels like I'm using a Mac with the quality (although dust protection doesn't look great).

No GFX card .. just Asus Z790-I and onboard GFX with the i9-14900K.

I wanted the Jade but it wasn't in stock at the time, so have silver.
