  • Free delivery. I’ll take this over rolling the dice with Woolworths, even though Woolworths gift cards at 4% off and there’s some points to be had. Just not worth the time. Thanks.

    • +1

What’s the risk of buying this at Woolies?

      • Them not having stock. Them not having stock in date. The sim not being activated* on purchase at the checkout. Someone tampering with the sim, etc, etc.

*POS activation, not sim service activation.

        • I bought a Vodafone sim starter pack from Woolies yesterday, they give you a receipt confirming activation.

          • @shutuptakemymoney101: Yes but sometimes the sim doesn't get activated and people walk out without checking their receipts. Happens time and time again in almost every thread when there's a big sim deal on.

        • +2

That’s just silly. Can also happened with Officeworks. I rather go with woolies since I can use the 10% rewards discount.

          • @first in line: Depends how you value your time. Already went to one WW and they didn't have it. If I go to another I've spent time and risk also not getting it.

Officeworks order online - it's guaranteed, and I didn't invest any meaningful time.

It's all about how you value your time.

          • @first in line: Woolies = Officeworks = Coles = any store. OP is talking about having to go pick a physical sim off the shelf compared to being sent one.

            • @wavesgreen: Can phone the store first I guess to check on stock levels without actually driving there? Usually, a free call inclusive just like it would be on this Vodafone sim plan.

FWIW, there were still a number of Vodafone $250 cards still left at Brookwater Qld 4300 on Sunday when I bought mine.

    • I got this for $118.75 price match at OW with woolies deal last week .

      • +1

this is the best move, and it's also the reason of why OW reducing the price, LOL

    • can't use wws gift cards to buy such prepaid card…

      • not what other ozbargainers have said: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14907212/redir

You just can't use WWS gc to by Everyday Mobile prepaid product

        • You can't use wws GC to buy any giftcards, I have tried steam and Google ones too.
I'm in VIC if that makes a difference.

        • I tried to use wws GC to buy Lebara sim card last month, system denied.

          • @Keelix: @Keelix - Lebara and ww/everyday mobile are the two ones that don't work

@dzpliu - Mobile phone starter packs arecn't considered to be GCs

            • +1

              @bdl: well…my life is hard :(

              • @Keelix: Can confirm I used Woolworths mobile monthly 10% discount in store to buy the VF sim today, and paid with ww gift cards lol :)

Now is a good time to switch from Lebara! :)

Personally id avoid. I ventured out to the northern beaches in sydney today, and vodafone had no service. https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/424371/110337/img_2172…

I mainly stay in metro areas and this surprised me.

    • +2

Same - I work/live inner Brisbane and get terrible/patchy connection. Coverage is shocking, horrendous connectivity. Won't go with Vodafone again… massive regrets after signing up for the $99 Costco deal a few months back.

      • -1

Same in Sydney west…would've thought after merging with TPG and getting their spectrum, and after 10 years from Vodafail it would be better. Nope..

    • +1

Yeah went to sydney CBD, Today on george street i was getting these speeds https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/424371/110353/img_2263…

Deal poster needs to mention this key FACT: Bonus Data offer ends 15/02/2024. Activate by 22/02/2024.

  • +2

Today I did a large Woolies shopping to use 10% off. It worked a charm and payed with gift cards bought via prezzee. Such a good bargain, especially with 5g and esim

  • Cheapest per month plan these days I think

  • +2

Download Nperf app. Install to the phone. Open the Sydney map. Then check the 5g and 4g network map… If u don't find any issue, Then decide what network want to use! Even Vodafone!!!
Vodafone stalled me nearly 5 years… disappointed.

  • +4

Having switched from Telstra/Boost to Vodaphone, I can say the network coverage is a downgrade, if you value coverage I would suggest paying a bit more and go to Boost.

    • +6

Boost is pretty congested in my area. I had full reception but the data speed was pretty low during the day. I moved to catch a few weeks ago and it's much better. I even realised Boost lost data reception when I went deep inside a a large store like Coles or Kmart. Optus seems to do better in that as well. So my experience with Optus network has been superior to Boost.

      • Haven't tried Optus in yonks, but ye go outdoors a lot, noticing Vodaphone reception drops out a lot vs the wife's boost reception.

      • +5

My experience with boost after coming from Telstra is that I do not get data in shopping centres where I used to have no problems with Telstra. Everyone says it uses the full network but sometimes I am in doubt.

        • +1

I can echo this experience.. Boost always showing good reception. Crap data. Super slow. Partner hates that we swapped to boost! She said it was better with Vodafone.

It uses a portion of the full network, in the sense that, yes all towers, but a subset of the power of all towers.. Definitely a downgrade over Telstra direct but I'm also paying 1/6th I did before so.. Can't win both.

Partner might be interested in going back to voda with this deal though we still have 3-4 months left with boost.

          • @ReaperX22: To counteract the Boost argument, I was with full Telstra recently but after two months I couldn't handle it. Put a complaint through and they said they know about it, but they have no timeframe to fix the congestion issues. I live in inner-West Sydney and work in Pyrmont. Data would not work, no reception in shops or busy inside areas. If there were bars, it was so congested it wouldn't work anyway. Switched to Voda and I've had 0 issues and seems to always be on 5G.

            • @Cryptex: Voda is alright for me in 99% of the places I go to, but Id only be with Voda with super cheap plans like this, dont understand people who are with Voda on full price

        • Yep sounds like a bad b3 siso das install

  • Is it still the case that only Telstra/Boost allow wifi calling/text when overseas? As far as I know, Voda doesn't allow that feature overseas; pity as this would be cheaper deal than Boost.

    • +2

Yes, only Telstra / Boost supports vowifi overseas.

    • Why not use messenger/whatsapp/whatever to do the call? (Just asking, I'm personally with Telstra/Boost…depending which "New Customer" flip I'm on)

  • You list "C&C/in-Store" but I was able to get it delivered for free, no idea about Flybuys though, I didn't try it.

  • I switched to Vodafone about 16 months back due to their great deals (and Optus' rubbish handling of the data leak). The other day I switched back to Optus.

Vodafone are terrible. I had constant signal issues. And not just the usual bad coverage. A few times I lost connection at home for several days even though I usually have full bars. Each time I reported it to Vodafone, and each time they admitted a fault and fixed their fault 1 week later.

When I bought a new phone I just wanted to transfer my esim. I called Vodafone support and after 1 hour on hold, I received a message saying that they could organise a call back in 1 week from now.

Horrendous Telco. No idea how they still operate in Australia.

  • I’m using Kogan and more telco.
Comparing both, they are bad but are they that bad to need to goto Telstra and pay $69 as a minimum? I don’t know

    • +1

It usually depends on where the providers closest tower is. Theres a vodafone tower down the road from me. So at home I get the best reception. Better than when I was with Telstra. I dont usually use my phone when I'm out, as I like to talk to people Im with lol. So to me using the phone in other places is not really that big of a deal.

  • Better than Optus and I save 3-5k than using Telstra.

  • Adding it to cart and "Unfortunately this item is currently out of stock!"

  • Nice, as a current Vodafone post-paid customer I'm looking to downsize my plan.

To become a "new" customer, would I have to port out of Vodafone, wait a few days, then sign-up to prepaid?

    • +1

Yes - though I got on their live chat a couple weeks ago and after a bit of angst they agreed to port a separately activated plan to my existing number.

      • how easy was it to get live chat to activate it for you?

does anyone know of the easiest way for voda PAYG plan to port to this prepaid sim?

        • Probably messaging ~5 times while at work pointing out it was pretty absurd they had a $125 loyalty tax, and stating in no uncertain terms you were unhappy and would be churning, and only returning if there wasn't a better deal.

You could try the same off your PAYG.

I may have gotten lucky, in which case find a $2-5 intro sim somewhere, port your number to that, then port it back to voda. I don't believe they will do an internal number transfer without a similar level of exception to what I described above.

  • +1

"Bonus Data offer ends 15/02/2024. Activate by 22/02/2024."
So do i need to activate by 22 or the 15th to get the bonus data?
Also i got it from woolies and the pack doesnt say the bonus data nor 5g? Is it the same deal tho or vodafone offers multiple 250$ plans?

    • Maybe its not? It should look like the pic on top of the page. Bonus 90GB data needs you to activate plan by the 15th. Activation for the plan expires 22nd. So activating it between 16-22 Feb will make you miss out on bonus data but still give you the usual plan. See if you can return or swap the item if it doesn't match up with this deal.

    • -1

      https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans

'Eligible customers get 60GB bonus data on $150 starter pack for total 140GB data and 90GB bonus data on $250 starter pack for total 240GB. Bonus data is applied within 72 hours following a successful activation and is available only on activation. Activation Counts as the first recharge. From your 2nd recharge and every subsequent recharge afterwards, your Data entitlements will revert to the original Base/ My Data inclusions which are 80GB on $150 and 150GB on the $250 Prepaid Plus Long Expiry Plan.'

Buy by 15th. Activate by 22nd. What's not clear is do they mean before those dates start, or by the end of day on those dates? To be on the safe side you'd be best to assume the former.

      • Why on earth would you vote a comment down that is just useful information?

  • Check the signal coverage for your frequented areas. I am on Woolworths Mobile (telstra) and frequently get signal in rural Vic where my partner (on Vodafone) does not.

  • Thanks, rodered one

  • Can anyone from Victoria comment on how the Vodafone coverage is like in the western suburbs of Melbourne and in rural Victoria? My wife's Boost annual plan is due for recharge in a week. I want to switch her over to a Vodafone or other Telstra resellers as Boost is now too expensive. I am on Coles/Optus network, so would like her to be on a different provider to maximise coverage during road trips.

    • +1

On road trips, in areas about 3 hours out of a city, vodafone becomes unusable due to b5 5mhz only deployments that are typically on a 360° antenna that have about 24mbps of capacity. Not very fast

  • Boost is the best. 260GB for $220 with $50 CR includes unlimited international calling on Telstra's 5G network. Very happy with them. Bit dearer but you get what you pay for 100%
Worth and cheap replacement after staying with expensive Telstra for 12 years.

  • no flybuys point

  • -1

I regret switching to Vodafail. I thought it had improved. The data is so slow and the signal is so weak. I'd pay an extra $$ but get the boost one.

    • Not for me, I switched and have been using it everywhere I need it for the last 6 months. I usually get between 100 to 500Mbps data speeds, depending if on 4G or 5G.
Here is my current speed on 4G: https://www.speedtest.net/result/a/9890750553
      Different for everyone of course.

      • Well, there is no way I'm getting that result. We used get way better speed couple years back at the same location. It's my result now. https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/9890887196

        • You haven't swapped to a phone that doesn't cover the full range of network frequencies they now operate on, by any chance, such as an iPhone 13 and any before, or a Pixel 6 or any before? (not sure about the other brands).

          • @SimAus007: I got s22 ultra. Just recently switched to s24 ultra. No difference whatsoever.

  • -1

OW website shows me it at $250.. how can I get half price?

    • I meant to pick this up yesterday from OW for $125. Today the price is $250 as I assume the Woolworths weekly specials have finished. Looks like I will be staying with Boost ……

      • Stay with Boost. You won't regret.

        • i agree just moved to vodafone on 3rd feb. had few outages. with same phone iphone 14 pro and daily activity chewing data at 3x.

    • Vodafone half price offer ended yesterday, everything is now probably back to full price.

  • +1

I bought in my local woolies 2 hours ago - still half price.

    • Just bought one at WW for 1/2 price.

  • I just activated mine and got 330gb. 150gb + 180gb bonus data. Bought mine from woolworths. I have another vodafone prepaid number and activated this one with a port in of old phone number. Did anyone else get that much bonus data?

  • Just activated it today, bonus data showing 180gb hopefully not just a glitch, though likely

    • +1

      I don't think it is a glitch.

I assume it is because there are currently 2 offers for 90gb of bonus data and right now they overlap.

150gb + 90gb bonus data. Activate by 22/02/24 for bonus data
Get 240GB total data (150GB + 90GB bonus data) when you activate this starter pack between 16 February 2024 and 9 April 2024 (‘Promotional Period) and activate by 9 April 2024

      • makes sense, hope you're right, dont think the 240gb was going to last me more than 8 months

  • +1

I got this for my wife and it was a mistake I'll never repeat again. Constant issues with internet dropping out and signal strength is horrendous.

    • You probably didn't sign up to Vodafone with your eyes closed?

Vodafone can be great for some and lousy for others.

Definitely a good idea to trial the Vodafone network on a cheap prepaid plan (Kogan $15 small plan for example) before committing to a more expensive 12 month prepaid plan.

      • Don't know about other areas, but at least in Brisbane, I don't see how it can be great if it struggles with reception in inner city areas, on buses etc.

    • Agree. Same problem in Mel CBD, and surrounding suburbs, it's freaking annoying.
I thought it was because of my phone at first, but tried multiple different phones, same problem.
