  • I remember when they were $1 each. For all ziploc items. Too bad they had limits lol

    • I still have over half the bags I bought from that deal.

    • I remember when fuel was 79c/L

      • 69.9 for me.

        • 55c for me and we driove around to find one for 50c.

And they had 'super' leaded fuel

Same price ($2.20) at Coles at the moment for those without Amazon prime membership.

        • 2007 joined damm wow Im old

  • +4

i used to use these a lot but been buying a few of the new Glad ones at coles lately.
Seems to be at intro price still

    eg price was 4.50 - now $2.90

    https://www.coles.com.au/product/glad-stretch-tech-storage-b…

The design of the bag allows it to stretch by a surprising amount (claims up to 30%) compared to the standard design (such as these ziploc ones)

    • +1

With Amazon Sub & Save the Ziplock ones come out to around 14c each (or 1/2 the cost of the Glad ones). Much cheaper per bag.

    • Are those any good?

      • Good enough that I would spend double what I would normally pay via s and s for a ziploc option

    • +6

I wonder whether making them stretch requires the addition of more plasticizer to the mix, with more hormone disruptor transfer risk where it's in contact with food? They say 'BPA free' but that's only one of these chemicals - they swap one out then require another to take its place. Not sure they have many proven non-endocrine disrupting alternatives yet.

    • Were you….glad….that you bought that?

      • +1

        I'm sure he was wrapped.

  • Anyone use these to freeze coffee beans? Good or nah

    • Coffee beans i normally vacuum seal them.

      • I individually seal mine

    • +4

look up Joie Valve Seal Bags, they were very well

      • +1

I bought a couple of these on clearance from Cole’s special buy section a few months ago. Now I’ll need to find them and bring them out for use.

  • +2

This is a pretty cool deal.

    • Quite an ice deal

      • +2

Everybody freeze. Fill up the bags.

  • +1

Ikea ones are bigger and thicker. I do like the Ziploc branded ones though. Shame the 100 smaller bags aren't on special.

    • +3

The 40 pack of the sandwich size is half price.

      • -1

Only a small fraction of a cent cheaper per bag than the 100 pack. But that's good enough for me, I'll buy some.

  • Even though these are called Large, they aren’t that big. The medium ones are also like small sized bags.

    • If you want large, prob need to get the very large IKEA ones.

      • I have a couple of the IKEA ones given by a rellie and they’re large and thick. The only reason preventing me from getting more is now I rarely shop at IKEA.

  • I find these to be horrible, so thin and flimsy. It's funny that the brand name version is worse than the others

    • +5

Perhaps you are referring to the green top or pink top bags.
These blue top freezer bags are thick and tough.

  • We have some these set aside for Sous Vide steaks and others for freezer bags. If you wash, and dry, them then they last pretty well.

    • I use these for sous vide too. Are you worried about reusing them because it’s plastic?? I don’t reuse but was thinking about it. I know BPA free etc, but still wondering about any other plastic stuff, probably being too paranoid lol

      • +1

Probs an irrational fear but I never microwave or reheat anything in plastic if I can, not because I'm a crazy health person who thinks everything will kill me, like you just paranoid.

      • +1

The water baths are pretty low temperature. When I wash them I use hotter water but I let them air dry. I’m not particularly concerned.

  • +2

I thought we should buy less plastic product? When is the bamboo version coming out?

    • If plastic helps preserve food and avoid waste then it's worth it. Takes a lot of water and methane and land and truck fumes to make and transport food.

    • sheep intestine

    • They are working on “plastic” from oyster shells.

  • +1

    Ordered 5 set thanks 🙏

  • -3

Ikea is better. No deal. HEJ DA!

  • +4

Please reuse these where possible. Be kind to the turtles.

    • +1

The turtles at the rubbish dump?

      • +1

Lots of plastic makes it to the sea.

However, reuse makes good economic sense as well. We wash these in hot soapy water, air dry them, then reuse.

        • +2

True and shame on anyone who leaves stuff like this lying around after their nice beachside picnic. Looking forward to a thin plastics recycling programme like the now defunct RedCycle one that can work successfully. If you put these in the recycling bin the machine sends them into the paper section. I reuse these as well if they are clean.
Good on you MattyD and try2behelpful ✌️

          • @Skatez: Hmm, I still see the RedCycle logo on heaps of food items/products.

            • @Mondorock: Yeah, but there are disclaimers in the stores saying they aren’t collecting at this time.

      • +1

The turtles at the rubbish dump?

Wind + gravity blows plastic waste to the lowest point. That's where water gathers also. Streams -> Creeks -> Rivers -> Oceans.

There are at least five 'continents' of plastic waste floating in the oceans of the world; currently the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is about twice the size of Texas. But it's growing.

Sure: Australia isn't the main offender. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't do our part. It didn't get there by people walking down to the beach and hurling rubbish directly into the sea.

        • +1

Glad you edited your comment because I’m sure Australia would be responsible for less than 0.0001% of that scenario of littering in the world but you do live near the most disgusting river in Australia so I understand your sentiment. The countries that are causing this problem are a disgrace. Sorry if my question offended you mate it was just a joke ✌️
Also I never said that people walk down to the beach and hurl their rubbish directly into the sea. I would say some gross pigs do though and also off of their boats so you are wrong about that.
If anyone is still reading this, do the right thing and don’t litter! anywhere!

          • +1

@Skatez: Nah not at all mate - you seem like somebody who cares. I teach this stuff to young children - sometimes I forget to turn off the preachy-ness 😁

My "hurl directly into the ocean" comment was flippant and a classic straw man. I'll do better.

Edit: also, "whoosh"=me. I should have been the first to laugh at your joke. It's my kind of humour.

            • @MattyD: Sweet as mate. Yeah sometimes I just like to give people a giggle with an abstract picture in their head like turtles roaming around on the rubbish dump. It was a risky joke, apologies again for any offence. All’s well that ends well.
              Have a good day 👍

    • how do reuse ?

      • Wash them and reuse?

        • Wash and reuse condoms? Save environment!

  • isn't ikea one better/cheaper?

  • Prefer the bags from Ikea - double seal and usually cheaper than alternatives. Not made in China too.

    • +1

The freezer ones do have the double seal.

      • excellent

  • what's the difference between these and the Coles medium ? 40 pack for $2.80, I guess size is the only difference and price?

    • Coles ones are thinner and can leak or easily be poked through

  • Ozbargained

  • It says the dimensions were 28.7W x 7.5H centimetres. What would someone use that size for?
