  • Does Canberra have anything other than buses?

    • +3

      Trams/light rail

      • That's cool, I've actually never seen them. Newish?

        • +2

Yeah, opened to passengers in 2019

          • +3

@sss333: Only one line so far and in the north of town only, but it'll get expanded as budget allows. Building new rail is pricey.

            • @park: Its not taht pricey its just that the car nimbys hate it

              • +2

@Tleyx: It would be less contentious if they were more transparent and didn't choose the routes for blatant political reasons.

I'm all for light rail but this gov has lost the plot. Unfortunately the alternative is a wet rag (Canberra Liberals) so we're stuck with them.

              • +2

                @Tleyx: Explain your theory

              • +3

@Tleyx: Stage one cost about $700m, which is about as big as a big ticket item gets in a city of 500,000. Don't get me wrong, I'm pro-tram, but it's wrong to suggest that there's a spare $700m lying around in the ACT budget every other year.

Stage 2 involves rejigging the bridge across the lake and getting the tram to Woden with wireless trams in the section near Parliament House. I'd be pretty surprised if that bit was under construction by 2030.

@park: You do realise a simple road widening costs more than that. And just creates more traffic

                  • -1

@Tleyx: You're making vague ideological blanket statements in the face of facts and details, and it's not going great for you

                    • @park: You have no idea about how much things actually cost and think $700m is expensive for a transport project.

Get your head down in the real world and you might learn something

                      • @Tleyx: Canberra's big road project last decade was Majura Parkway, an 11.5 kilometre long duplicated road with seven bridges and three interchanges. Its ticket price was $288m. Like I said earlier, Canberra doesn't have $5b projects because it's less than a tenth the size of Sydney or Melbourne. There's not the money or the demand for 10km rail tunnels etc.

or perhaps your comment is just moronic?

    • Its not allowed. You cant celebrate being white or being australian. You can celebrate being anything else though.

      • -1

'celebrate being white' - no one is celebrating their skin colour, they are celebrating their culture. Failed understanding of what this is

and 'being Australian', well, almost everyone involved is 'Australian' so not quite sure what you are on about. They do have a morris dancing session if you are scared by non white people doing things.

Them boys in the black attire gonna make full use of this freebie like in Sydney. Lol

    • -2

You do know that they didn't even make it to city right? Don't cheap out, charter a bus instead.

      • Yes I know.

Hmm. The food stalls here sell overpriced food that you have to line up for.

Some shops have been found to mishandle food and cause diarrhoea.

At best you can have some food standing up and pay too much for it. At worst you will visit the hospital and get to lie down.

    • Colour me shocked…
