So that's three gen old and 23% off.

    • Sadly people pay it. At this price go & buy a used 14 still under warranty for $800-$900s, but can’t help those that prefer new phone 3gens old than 1 gen old used

  • +3

At this price yeah nah. Inefficient 5G modem that will not hold up with newer deployments, Overheating issues etc.

This phone was known to have battery life issues too, and was released in 2020.

$800 for a 128gb model, just save up a tiny bit more and get yourself a iphone 13 which starts at 128gb.

    • What’s the problem with 5G?

      • The modem is old and inefficient, and it probably won’t support new spectrum holdings being deployed soon

        • +1

not so much that it’s old but that it wasn’t very good to begin with

For comparison, exectly a year ago today, iPhone 12 Mini with 90-Day 250GB SIM Plan: 64GB $400, 128GB $424, 256GB $474 Delivered @ amaysim was posted by @YLD1, and it was less than half this price.

    • Half the price but smaller screen

      • +1

But also 50% newer generation last year and only 90-day plan ;)

Also noting it's a smaller screen, but almost the same DPI, so you get the same real estate, ie. you don't really see less on an iphone mini, it's just shrunk. So, ofcourse, it's physically smaller.

Anyway, the real problem with 12 mini is its awful battery…

        • +1

Awful battery? I'm still yet to finish a day below 25%. Are you a gamer?

          • @Webbo: Not a gamer at all. From other people's comments, it seems to be the worst battery among all iphones and surely it's going to last even 2 days if you don't really use it, but I can see the % going down as I scroll OzB on it. Especially if it's a bright hot day.

I hardly ever leave the house without a power bank, as I take pictures with this phone and can't be sure when I need the hotspot.

            • +1

@pizzaguy: Can confirm, I got the 12 mini as part of that deal, and the battery wasn't great for a frequent user. Got a 15 pro now and it's a lot better, but also paid 5x the money so…

              • @NatoTomato: On the top of that, mine overheats a lot - doesn't even take a hot day for it to tell me it's stopped charging past 80% until it cools down, in its case or without it.

            • @pizzaguy: Sorry wasn't meaning to be sceptical of your claim. I've just had a different experience. This is the first iPhone I've owned and so far so good after 1 year. I have never needed to purchase a powerbank but if I were to go on a camping trip I definitely would. The se models have smaller battery capacity are you sure 'everyone' is saying this??

              • @Webbo: Defs not saying that "everyone" finds this battery insufficient, but certainly this is the sentiment on OzB whenever 12 mini is mentioned. Apparently 13 mini has a better battery.

Also, I'm using the newest iOS - it was 1-2 versions behind when I got it and there have been pretty resource-consuming updates to functionality after that, like text recognition or separating objects in photos, I believe.

Anyway, only after first couple of months, the battery health dropped significantly, now after exactly a year it's at 88%. I'd expect a tad better from Apple and I may take it to the store - mainly because being unable to charge past 80% too often (see my very previous comment).

                • @pizzaguy: I'm on 97% battery health btw. Maybe I lucked out with the battery lottery.
Also on latest ios too. Maybe being in my 40's my usage is less than younger people.

                  • @Webbo: 97% after a year would be what I expect. My 88% should be maybe after 2-3 years.

And I don't think it's a matter of age, but just what you need your phone for - how many photos I take, how much I scroll, use maps and the hotspot, which is needed for my work. Either way, lucky you not being so phone-dependent!

  • I bought iPhone 12 mini at Amaysim a year ago for less than $300AUD

  • This sux when I got the 12 mini 256gb for $474 1 year ago. Been the perfect phone for me.

Bought the refurb ebay greengadgets 256gb for my daughter at 592 a few months ago. It was a brand new phone. I couldnt find a mark on it anywhere.
Id buy another before i went with this deal.

  • S24 ultra for about 1.2k straight from samsung (not including trade in). Why buy a 4 year old phone ? Even newer iphones can be had for less

    • +1

      Whete is this 1.2k deal?

  • +1

    bing 13mini pls…

Just be mindful that if you purchase this with the $30 1 month plan, amaysim will debit your bank account $30 every month if you don’t cancel the direct debit before the next month is due. That’s if you don’t want to stay with them. I got caught out by this and thankfully got the first direct debit refunded

    • Thanks for pointing this out - I just logged in and saw the number (unused) that was bundled with the phone under "Plan Settings" Auto-renew was set to on - I have changed this to "off".
      Hopefully that will fix it.

  • I am still dubious as to whether they can force you to bundle with the $30 28 day prepaid plan, while the same plan is advertised on their front page for $15

ACCC and Fair Trading NSW call this practice "multiple pricing", and if the vendor does this, they "must sell the item or service for the lowest displayed price or withdraw the item from sale until the price is corrected".

  • +1 because this is a great price for this product.

Yes the mini was cheaper before, but that’s a different product. And while that was a good deal a good deal, it has expired and so shouldn’t negate this deal.

  • Just a heads up, these recently tanked in trade-in value to ~$320, if you just want an iPhone to use until the iPhone 17 or new SE comes out, you may have better options.

e.g recently eBay had a 20% off coupon, and an as-new refurb iPhone 12 64Gb could be had for ~$460.

Mind you, the battery will probably be on 85%, but if you just want a phone for the next year or so, it should be acceptable.

    • $320 where?

      • Trade-in value at Mobile Monster for example is $350, JB-HiFi is only $280, not 100% sure what the trade-in value is with Apple for a 64Gb because you need to use an IMEI to get a quote, but they quoted me $335 for my 128Gb model.

With the SE2024 being only weeks away I wouldnt buy any iPhone now.

MacRumors says XR/6.1" size, single camera, full screen, 14chipset so it has starlink/optus compatibility with faceID and USB-C for $600-$1000 pricing

    • Macrumors also says

"We aren't expecting a new iPhone SE in 2024, and the next update is expected in 2025."

Where did you read weeks away?

  • Not a good deal iPhone 12 is very old. Anythung less than 128GB is not usable these days. Support til 2027 however knowing Apple the last iOS update will slow this to a crawl. So let's just say 2 years

Its not good value at 128GB. You might as well get Pixel 7 or the cheaper Motorola Android phones at around $300 mark
