I won't buy this just because i just had my laptop upgraded last month. Otherwise I'll definitely buy it cuz this model has one of the best cooling system except from those with liquid metal. Its CPU power can hit 130watts+ after 10min of aida64 fpu stress test with around 91 Celsius according to review.

    • If you like its excellent thermal design and tweakable bios then this is a decent deal even with the trash fhd 144hz panel

      • How bright is the display (nits)? Hope it wont be like cheap Acer laptops.

    • Reading some reviews from reddit and got this "poor thermal paste" problem, there's reason why MSI laptops are cheaper …

"For Cyberpunk 2077 (which is my favorite game of all time), I'm afraid this game will still stutter in 4k resolutions with Ultra graphic settings even you enabled Extreme Performance in MSI Center. I am able to maintain 50 - 60 fps while roaming the city and low action, but the game stutters heavily when your having intense actions like boss fight or when in Dogtown. So I will recommend you to optimize the graphic settings or just lower the resolutions for this game.

I also would like to add that my CPU was overheating just after the first month of using this laptop. But I believe this issue is due to poor thermal paste job as the problem is solved when the MSI service center replaced the paste.

Fan noise will be super loud in Extreme Performance but in balanced mode it is still bearable, silent mode will still have a tiny bit of fan noise, just a tiny bit, its not completely quiet. I would recommend to use noise cancelling headphones when gaming on extreme performance."

Better wait for Lenovo 2024 models out then will get much cheaper on their 2023 sku!

    "Stunning 16" FHD+ 144Hz display" 🤩

What a biggest BS they can say this screen is Stunning!

  • Am I reading this right, all that CPU/GPU power and it's limited to just 1080p?

    • It has a HDMI port so you can use an external monitor

      • Yes but then it ceases to be portable.

        • A portable OLED monitor perhaps?

  • Is the tdp of the gpu maxed out or is it worse than a 4060.

  • Having 32gb and higher res display is ideal but the value of this laptop is unbeatable

  • From a quick search it looks like ram might be upgradable

45% ntsc 250 nits, this isnt just bad, this is super bad. Even worst TUF of all laptops have 100% srgb in its 1080p config this year.

GP doesnt have the best cooling, dont know what the others are talking about, it doesnt have a vapor chamber unlike legion 7 or Scar 17 & many others (flagship alienware, gigabyte), it doesnt have the extra long heatsink and a third fan for motherboard cooling unlike new Strix, its fine for the specs, but nothing amazing to speak of. There is no chipset cooling for some reason (there is, on this (2024) years model).

Just get a Legion Pro 7i (4080/13900HX/32/QHD240hz)@ $3560+Cashback-currently 7%)for your own good or wait for another Omen 17 4090 deal for an actual all rounder 'budget' high end gaming laptop.

Those looking for a good desktop replacement can also feast their eyes on the new M18R1, currently a solid 3.5k refurbished with 13900HX/64/1TB/4080/QHD165hz and one year premium onsite support, with actual desktop replacement like cooling solution (and upgradbility, two 2280 and two 2230 slots, all gen 4)

      • The specs doesn't say how heavy it is.

    • Yeah I'm personally waiting for that Legion Pro but hoping the price will drop a bit more and better cashback offer down the line, it was that price when there was 10% cashback recently. Looking to get it at $2800~ after cashback.

That’s the game plan ;) Give it about two weeks for another drop with cashrewards I reckon, prices will only come down with the 2023 sku as 24’ are gradually rolling out. Cant hold on to these forever after all

        • Just need the price to be $3300 with 10% cashback + 15% westpac bonus capped at $100 and I'll bite, otherwise I'll be waiting until next year

If this screen had better colour accuracy and brightness I would have bought this though, the resolution doesn't bother me too much but I'll be using it outside sometimes so need a bright screen. Will be using a TV for gaming most of the time so a crappy res doesn't bother me.

          • @lookingforadeal7: yeah same, so sad the screen is such POS and I heard that most MSI & Gigabyte laptops screen never bright enough … Also just went JB to look at the real item, it is so damn cheap plastic look, can't compare to any Legion build quality!

    • @Brrrrt
Yeah, I got one of those and got a few extras thrown in such as upgraded W11pro, Laptop bag and extended 3yr warranty.
I only use it for flight sim but the internals are great for cooling as everything has heat sinks on the components, ie: ram, wifi, nvme's etc so hence why there is a bit of weight it as too the body material.

Power supply is also 330W, a bit bulky but as you all know, that's what you need with a RTX4080 gpu. I use a DP to port out to a 34" Dell to give a nice experience.

This MSI one seems ok for the price but the 500nit screen on the Legion 7i and refresh rate is also quite nice experience on the eyes but a bit small for sim after your eyes and tuned for a 32 to 34" screen.

Paid 3,450 last year but missed any cash back.

Added a 4TB Lexar sourced from here as a games drive so it never needed a heat sink as temps are still in a valid range. Might check out a few reviews on this one in due time and a look at the internals etc

    • The Legion Pro 7 falls short on battery life, $2.4K - 4080, what you expect?
If you're after vapor chamber, then go for Scar 17 or Raider in the same price range

      • There is no vapor chamber on the Raider, not in the 23 sku or the 24 one. Only the new titan.

battery life is non existent on any -HX based laptop, not sure whats your point there.

  • If you are technically inclined and brave enough you can upgrade the screen yourself to a legion quality screen for ~$130 ish from aliexpress

    • Interesting, I'm tempted I might need to look into this before the deal ends

    • Even you changed to a better screen, still their fan control is pathetic, most complain fan speed goes nuts even for light gaming and noise is unbearable.

      • I wear my momentum 4s 24/7 so the fan noise isn't much of an issue, would plan on buying one of those fan stands for it to sit on when it's really under load when gaming with whatever laptop I get as it'll act as a console for triple A gaming. For the price and specs it's cheapest I've seen so far so it's been tempting.

  • Just realise Jarrod Tech done a review of this unit inside and out a few months back:. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SalQne7m0UE

    • That screen seems like a deal breaker but ok if you run to external. I guess depends on use case. It seems to be a laptop for those content with docking most of the time and seldomly take out.

      • Not just the screen, lots with Fan issues plus the thermal paste issue mentioned above, maybe if this goes under $2k then can give it a try …

  • Lots got similar overheating issues with this model, spend $2.5k at your own risk and also MSI customer service is sh|t as hell, good luck if you gonna buy it.
