Alright.

Can't go past Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, right? It's like someone bottled up the essence of a fiery dragon's breath and put it on your dinner table. This stuff is hotter than a sunburn on a beach holiday gone wrong, but in a good way, you know? It's got this tangy kick that'll wake up your taste buds faster than a bucket of cold water to the face. And the best part? You can put it on anything, mate. I'm talking eggs, pizza, ice cream if you're feeling adventurous (not recommended). It's like the Swiss army knife of condiments, always ready to add a bit of spice to your life. So, if you're after a sauce that's more intense than a rollercoaster ride through a volcano, Sriracha's your man.

  • Sriracha, made from sun ripened chiles

  • Ready to add savory, spicy flavor

  • Excellent for adding a delicious, spicy flavor to soups, sauces

  • Use the highest quality ingredients

It’s like $8 at the asian supermarkets bruh.

      • +22

Doesn’t bother me. Win win for both of us then :)

      • +21
        • So Amazon is the winner. Surprise surprise

    • +2

It was Sancho, but this original brand been out of stock for about 2y with the chilli shortage in Mexico or something.
The other brands aren't as good but alright in the mean time for half the price ($4.45 for 435mL). Suppose $12 isn't too bad for the big size.

    • man i wish it was $8 for this brand still. Was like $12 at the local asian supermarket for this size when i bought it a month ago

      • +1

In Bankstown NSW (Sydney) it's $8-8.50 everywhere and everyone has it. I assume same in surrounding Asian suburbs.

    • That's the smaller bottles… not 740ml. check again.

    • +1

I must be shopping at the wrong supermarkets. Near me the big bottles are $12.95

  • The one made in China is only $4.79 https://amzn.asia/d/3AgioGM

Not sure if same flavour though

    • +2

Well yeah there are definitely inferior products available cheaper. You could probably get Masterfoods chili sauce even cheaper.

      • +4

Masterfoods chili sauce is sugar syrup

    • Tried this one - trash, not spicy at all

      • What would you recommend?

        • This brand on this post.

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: Oops I misread your original reply. Thought you were saying huy fong wasn't good mb.

    • +2

All other sriracha is not even close to huy fong in spice and flavour. Huy Fung is 83% chili. These other brands you're lucky to get 55%. And all the other ones are loaded with sugar.

      • Try Lingham's Chilli Sauce in that case…very tasty.

        • Ingredients
Sugar, Red Chillies (40%), Salt And Vinegar.

          • @OhThatsATree: That's weird because the Amazon image says made from 100% fresh chilli on the top of the neck / lid.

            • @The Judge: https://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/labelling/ingredie…

Ingredients must be listed in descending order (by ingoing weight). This means that when the food was manufactured, the first ingredient listed contributed the largest amount and the last ingredient listed contributed the least. For example, if sugar is listed near the start of the list the product contains a greater proportion of this ingredient.

As someone that appreciates proper heat I can't even consider a "hot sauce" whose number 1 ingredient is sugar.

            • @The Judge: “Made from 100% fresh chillies”. Not “made of 100% fresh chillies”.

“From” and “of” do have different meanings.

There is a review on Amazon saying it’s mostly sugar - so a sweet chilli, not like Sriracha.

    • +1

      Yeah Nah.
I've got an extensive collection of terrible bland, overly sugary or salty Sirachas that have been used once thanks to Huy Fong being so difficult to find over the last year.
Better off paying an extra few bucks and getting this instead of potentially ending up with another dud.

  • +1

    Sriracha is life!

  • -1

    Not cheap one

  • dafuq, so expensive now

  • +9

    https://thetakeout.com/huy-fong-sriracha-new-taste-grocery-s…

Long story short they screwed their supplier and turned them into a competitor, and now make an inferior product.

    Buy a different sriracha.

    • +2

      Any recommendations?

    • what's some other good ones?

      • +1

I had the Aldi one not long ago and it wasn't bad for the price. The one with Mayo was even better.

        • Karl do you know if the Aldi ones are a regular line or a special line? I seem to recall buying mine from the specials section.

      • The Coles one I linked is quite good following the real thing.

@dingo just try a few, no risk for a fiver, or google it

    • +1

      That’s a good one.
It’s like your boss screwed you on overtime and you then screw him back by banging his wife.

  • -2

Cheaper elsewhere, once again no point in your post

    • Cheaper where? Everywhere I looked it was either out of stock or had to pay for shipping.

      • -2

I mean I couldn't find any with a quick search.

        • It's Mr. P Dilkington 🤣.

Yeah I still a fair bit of the Pantai brand, goes alright. Haven't seen Huy Fong in stock anywhere for ages, which people don't understand. I still think it's about $4 overpriced though (people flip out over $1 on here).

  • +3

I recently tried the Aldi knock off that has mayonnaise in it. Awesome!

  • -2

Not a deal, has been cheaper before seems like the normal Amazon price.

    • share a link son.

      • +2

did you just assume the gender ?

        • +2

They did, but they also nailed it.

        • +1

          prove me wrong.

THEY are happy to pay $12.88 in Oct but complaining about $12.25 (S&S). LOL.

Also would have noticed that asian supermarkets haven't had this in stock for ages as I mentioned due to the shortage. Google it.

          • +1

@G-rig: Read my comment, its the normal price on Amazon, not.a deal. I would be happy to pay $12.25. I chose not to subscribe and save, so could have got it for less if I chose, my point is was cheaper, and regular price on Amazon.

            • +1

@eggaz: Wow, Squabbling over 73c difference. What's your time worth?

Fair enough, I thought most people have prime (for the overall savings).

The major flaw in your argument is that your couldn't find or purchase this at all for ages.

Anyway the cheaper alternative i mentioned is generally good enough these days.

              • @G-rig: Hardly squabbling, I was just pointing out this is today's regular pricing, and not a bargain. I would happily pay normal price for something I enjoy regularly.

This has been difficult to get for some time, and only back on the market now as they've changed an ingredient to be able to produce in large quantities again, you can taste the difference.

I tried a few alternatives and wasn't a fan, Flying Goose seems to be one of the brands flooding the shelves.

                • @eggaz: no worries, that's a shame, it was indisputably the best but not worth paying overs for it as you say.

                  • +1

@G-rig: It is definently the best of them all. To clailrify, I would pay over for it, but I love love Huy Fong Siracha. Also do yourself a favour, if you havent already, and try a jar of the Huy Fong Sambal, its a game changer on pizza.

                    • @eggaz: Agree, It's the best brand, just be nice to be back at normal prices.
Yeah sambal olek is great to have on hand.
Also like miso and gochujang for different thing.

      • +1

I paid $12.88 for the 740ml at Amazon in Oct 2023, and $3.00 for the 482ml in June 2021, bith non subscribe and save.It is also cheaper in Asian grocery where stocked.

  • Not the same brand but the one at Costco tastes alright (to us anyway) and should be a lot cheaper than this.

  • +2

I did not do a long search and came across this. I am also pretty sure it can be found even cheaper in many of your local Asian stores (but of course I cannot prove that with a link).

    IGA : $1.56/100g vs Amazon: $1.72 /100 g

    https://www.igashop.com.au/product/huy-fong-sriracha-600355

    • +1

      $1.66/100 s&s pretty simialr anyway

Thanks may pop past IGA see if they got any, i don't go through that much so the smaller size lasts quite a while.

    • I also found plenty of these, but it was a different size.

    • The Huy Fong supply issue must be sorted then, it should only get cheaper if you're correct aka no rush.

Agree not that many deals on Amazon prime lately, but good overall when they pop up.

    • That link stops working as soon as I set a store. And i tried all the stores around me and a few in Melbourne.

      • I'll take a photo if goin' past and I bet there is none.

  • +1

Looking at the images at Amazon, it's got the weirdest nutritional analysis I have ever see. Make that the worst. But I think it says 3% salt, which is very good and highly unusual compared to the hot chilli sauces I've looked at. And 20% sugar, which is borderline for me but lower than many.

    • Good pick up, it's a bit cleaner not just additives like the cheapies.
just compared Pantai from coles, similar enough (note 15g serving size so divide by 3).

  • +5

Step into any Asian grocer and it is $8 to $9 for the same bottle.

  • I ordered this 2 days ago and it's coming today. :D

  • +1

Squabbling over some seppo made sauce…how about get your sauce from the source! Cheaper in green chili version, or $1 more for the red version.

    • +1

Who'd have thought Siracha would be so divisive?

      • -1

The conversation caused me to take a bit of a closer look. The cheaper ones the supermarkets sell are ex-India, which I wouldn't touch with a long pole. I see why Huy Fong is popular given the chilli content, but for me the best balance is in between - the stuff from Thailand isn't dirt cheap but you know it's going to be firey and authentic. There's even a few Vietnamese offerings, which I'm sure are fine too, but I prefer the "real deal". If you haven't already, try a green chilli version, it's awesome!

        • Sounds like it with that name but the Amazon like says china, wouldn't be the first time their descriptions are inaccurate.

          Manufacturer Contact Information
          Nang Fah, China

          • @G-rig: It literally says so on the label, it's made by a Thai company (V-Thai Food Product Co Ltd) in Thailand. Even the naming convention of the company is Thai.

            • @The Judge: Got the green one delivered today. May try with some dumplings.
Can't think of many occasions where you wouldn't use the red one (and soy etc) but perhaps good for some cold dishes/salads
(and nice if it had a coriander flavour, haven't tried yet)

            • @The Judge: The Green one isn't very nice lol.
              Probably a reason it's $6 instead of $12.

              • @G-rig: Lol? Don't blame the sauce for your underdeveloped palate…

                • @The Judge: Relax, it's fine just different to what I was expecting. Just don't see many cases where I would reach for it over the red one

  • +1

The price of this is set by the manufacturer worldwide when distributed, being his dream to make affordable chilli sauce for everyone.

Huy Fong is a hero, this reseller not so much.

  • Got this for about $4 (on clearance) from Woolies 'bout a year ago and still currently using it. It sure takes a while to finish this bottle. Whew!

  • Just walk into any Asian grocery and get it at a better price, most have stock now and this must be higher than rrp

  • Thanks Op. Got one.
But actually I love this Sichuan Hot Chili Oil

  • I haven't tasted any Sriracha better than Huy Fong, I was amazed to see thr factory size in USA. Also offer trips to factory.

  • Thanks! Already received mine. I was down to using dregs from a bottle that is probably 2 years old.
