almost the same thing happened to me, try to cancel the direct debit agreement but no way to do so. called / live chatted, no way to do either, schedule for cancellation 30 days from now and I'm back with Launtel, yey!

      • prior experience with them was pretty crap too esp for cancellations when the onshore agent was anal about cancellations being only through telephone.

        • Superloop have a new hoop (a superhoop?) to raise the bar higher for anyone who calls and wants to leave: After requiring a ton of personal info to provided over a public phone line (VoIP?), make the consumer read out an SMS-provided auth code (thus jamming all personally identifying credentials on one go down one public channel)

In addition to the tired old hoops:
          - avoid answering the phone (always nbn's fault, of course)
          - make you key in a series of changing options correctly before talking to someone which is the only way to terminate a service
          - don't put a cancel button on the web-portal to terminate a service. But make sure there are lots of buttons to order a new one!
          - outsource call centre to corrupt jurisdictions where customer data is routinely stolen
          - prevent the poor call centre staff from doing anything not pre-approved, or done before.

I asked for an email or physical address to send notice to, they actually said a service could not be terminated this way.

I guess to get it done safely we should send a snail mail to Level 9, 12 Shelley Street, SYDNEY, NSW, AUSTRALIA, 2000.

Alternately, after churning, if they keep charging your credit card/misbill, put in a claim to the TIO or… small claims?

@resisting the urge: I just churned to a different provider and updated my payment details to a disposable Revolut card so they couldn’t charge me. Then when they tried to invoice me for the 30 day notice period I just threatened with a TIO complaint and they waived it.

            • +1

@xers: They actually claim otp their legal team instruct them to insist on full re-disclosure of PII before forwarding the issue to the retention team.

Somehow it seems they think they have no duty of care to their customers to stop billing when asked, even though they are billing against their customers' credit accounts. Surely this is in breach of their Merchant Agreements, if so.

I will terminate the service by snail mail, and follow up by mail if they fail to stop billing and resolve. Then goto the TIO. I've already stopped referring anyone to them.

    • Be mindful of the Exetel/Superloop 30 days notice '(profanity) you' when you leave.

Launtel is phenomenal and have been with them for years. They started small and grew organically. Their support is unparalleled - seriously, give them a go. It’s no commitment since plans are charged daily. Going away? Pause or cancel and sign up again and be active in minutes (sometimes hours). Their portal is simple and straightforward. Their support is honestly the best I’ve had from any ISP (or any bigger company for that matter). They aren’t the cheapest so might not be the most popular with OzBargainers but the money is well worth the investment for a solid service with fantastic support. You really can’t go wrong with Launtel.

When they first launched gigabit connections and before they went nationwide a shitload of local companies got some free internet for promoting them on their website and local community Facebook groups.

    • Thanks OP.
Tried L4UNTELL and it got accepted on sign up.
I'll have to wait and see how it goes.

These guys are the best ISP in Aus. Whenever I leave I’m always back pretty quick. Think I’m just going to stick with them permanently now. Being able to change my plan never I want with the click of a button. Pause for a day. Leave immediately. Lease a Static IP with a refundable deposit. No one else offers all of this.

Strange bargain vanished: Hell$tra is butchering equipment in areas with fewer complaints to patch others with more complaints.

Proof in the pudding by checking their outagefinder!
