    I know this is very high resolution, but the rest of the specs seems very low for spending this kind of money: only DP and HDMI (no USB-C input mentioned, and no PD charging), only 60Hz, it's not even height adjustable.

    • +5

      Took two seconds of research to confirm it has USB-C with 90W PD.

    • +4

      It is height adjustable.

      YES.. 100% better and cheaper to get a 4k 120Hz monitor :)

      • Depends on what you do. This will be much better than a 4K120 for video editing. You can have a 4K video and enough extra pixels to put your timeline and tools on screen.

    2024
    60hz
    ….
    What am I missing?

    • +11

      That not everyone needs a gaming monitor.

    • What am I missing?

      Tough one. Are there 5k 120 Hz monitors? Newer MBPs have that, I guess, but that's not what we're after in here.

    • 2024, and just 5K 60hz pshhh where my 8K 360hz monitor deals at. amirite /s

    • +8

      This is competing with the Apple display which comes in around $2,500. What you are missing is the ability to determine the use case of this monitor to see if it fits your needs.

    • If you can find a 5k 27 inch with 120hz at $1697 or $2000 or even $2500, I'll definitley buy it. Can you?

      • It doesnt exist, the amount of bandwidth required to drive such a resolution and refresh rate is greater than Thunderbolt 4 and display port 1.4, or even HDMI 1.4 options today.

        • Maybe DP2.0 does the job.

    • +5

      2024 and people still think all monitors are for gaming

  • +3

    Pretty sure if you're after a 5k 27in monitor the choices are only:

    • Samsung Viewfinity S9 (this one)
    • LG Ultrafine 5k (can be had for about $1,500, but it's seven years old at this point)
    • Apple Studio Display (about $2,300)

    I think the Samsung is competitively priced at this point, but I don't think it's worth it at its RRP. Apple's Studio Display is superior, but very expensive.

    I'm happy that Samsung brought out a competitor to Apple's display, but I was disappointed when they announced the price at launch.

    • Also Kuycon G27X for about AUD$1000, if you want to brave Taobao. I've been running mine for about a year and am pleased with it.

      The main difference from a 4K 27" is pixel density: 218ppi for 5K vs 163ppi for 4K. It's fairly significant. But pricewise, they're certainly not competitive compared to 27" 4K.

    • A lot of us were waiting in anticipation for this release but our hopes were brutally crushed when the RRP came out close to the Apple display. Good to see it coming down quite dramatically.

      I believe the panel is the same as the Apple display but the build quality is lacking however it does include height adjustment which is an option for the Apple display.

    • The Apple Studio is also practically useless with PCs.

    • You need a 32-48" 8k TV at the largest to use as a PC Monitor.. anything else is too big

      • Yeah it's a shame that large 8k TVs can be relatively cheap compared to these 27" 5k displays but I guess it's just the niche you're paying for. I would at least think 42" 8k would be a thing but I had a quick look and didn't come across anything.

  • I bought one of these from JB when gift cards.com.au had 15% off - great monitor. Not quite the Apple Studio Display in operation, but the IQ is the same or better and for the money it can’t be beat if you want high resolution.

  • Man are you guys still posting Samsung deals after the recent controversy? Wouldn't touch Samsung with a 10.5ft pole.

    • +1

      What controversy?

      • +3

        vagueposting only

        • yikes, that is terrible from Samsung

      • +1

        Pick a card, any card…
        * exploding phones
        * paying hush money to customers whose phones exploded, and then suing those people after they went public about it
        * child labour, forced Uyghur labour, anti-union position, etc
        * CEO arrested for bribery and embezzlement
        * a different CEO arrested for the same things plus sex trafficking
        * price fixing
        * artificially increasing brightness/contrast only during tests
        * faking damage/faults to avoid repairs…

        I could go on all week.

  • I bought one of these for WFH during the initial HN deal. I've been so happy with it I bought another for WFW (work from … uhh, work) using this deal. Thanks OP!
