    Unresolved Reports
    1 for Illegal/Banned Item

FYI reporter the laws in each state and territory differ. I.e. Sydney allows a 500W motor, my state allows them on offroad tracks and they all allow them on private property.

    • who? what? uh?!
OP, please give us some amazing deal on some of the Engwe higher end models.

    • -1

In NSW it only legal to ride an electric motor assisted pedal cycle (pedalec) of 250 watts on public roads, or 200 watts where the electric motor can be operated without the need to pedal.

      • +5

Sorry - not correct. NSW increased allowable wattage for pedalecs to 500w last year.

      • +1

I believe they have upped it to 500W

        • yes. NSW has a 500w, 25km/h limit. however the laws are for pedal assist bicycles, not 40km "Full Electric" like the ad says.

          • @jasonc: You might want to check the ad again. You're confusing the range with speed. It goes 25km/h and the battery range is 40km.

            • -1

@Clear: That's 40 km without pedalling, since it also says pedal assist range is 100 km. So this is not a Class 1 device.

              • @boozed: I'm still right. The "40km distance" is not the speed.

      • Your are correct in NSW it is 500 watts, but comes with some significant conditions.

        Electrically power-assisted cycles
An electrically power-assisted cycle has a maximum continued rated power of up to 500 watts. This power output must be:

progressively reduced as the bicycle’s speed increases beyond 6km/h
        cut off when:
your bicycle reaches a speed of 25km/h
you stop pedalling and the speed exceeds 6km/h.

  • I'm looking for full electric bicycle to do ~50km return commute, mostly on bike trail. Is this a good choice or better options available?

    • +1

For 50km per day you would want a full size bicycle.
Mid drive rather than hub motor would also be good.

    • +2

If you're going to use it regularly get a brand name something decent. It will still pay off in no time.

  • +2

Heavy little sucker ! … The average person wont be carrying that up stairs or the likes…

    • +2

I'd fold it and put it in the lift

  • Is this a good brand? Are the batteries reliable or is this a generic chinese brand with potential for batteries to catch fire?

    • +1

Engwe are pretty reputable but the batteries are still no name brand. You'd need to fork out $5-600 on custom batteries that have lg/Samsung cells inside

      • +1

Engwe aint no MagnetBox, but definitely miles ahead of the Sorny

Sounds like a pretty bad bike. One review but they were very detailed on why its bad.

  • +1

Don't waste your time with this. Probably a fire hazard too.

  • Being foldable makes it less convenient because they have to reinforce the frame causing it to be heavier.

    • It the same with full size electric bike. Heavy AF from experience.

  • +1

steel frame and really really heavy, otherwise nice bicycle. my 20inch one (alloy frame) weighted 20kg and feel heavy when move in/out of car

  • since this is a bad buy based on the comments, what's the next best option?
