  • wow nice find. $8.60/l is back to getting close to the all time lows of 5-10 years ago, $7.50/l iirc.

    • +3

Yes, I think this is the 'new' all time low.

      • +1

Might be time to increase my HPR5 futures holdings lol.

I'm pretty sure I'm holding about 50l right now.

        • Nice work, I hold 10L currently and may add another 5-10L with this deal. A very good price!

          • +2

@sobriety22: Free shipping above $130 for me!

Might add another 30l. I have 3 vehicles that take this oil, 25l between them each . And I might be adding a 4th much bigger vehicle soon.

At this price it would be rude not to stock up.

            • @stumo: Impressive! I have 2 vehicles that take 10L total between them ha. But one's a track car so it ends up taking 10W-60.

  • Which one is better? This or Castrol Edge 5W-30 A3/B4 Engine Oil 5 Litre $45.49
Just want to know who had experience
    Thank you

    • +1

I've used both, they are both officially MB229.5 approved. I prefer HPR5 due to it being 40 weight rather than 30 for my MB diesels here in Oz.

But if you have a petrol or lighter vehicle then Edge may be better since it will give better fuel economy as it is thinner.

      • Thank you for sharing experience

I will buy HPR5 for my Diesels

        Thanks

        • I thought you shouldn't use HPR5 for modern diesel though, as it contains zinc to clog up the DPF…

          • @baaatender: Thats half correct… Neither of these MB229.5 oils are suitable for DPF.

      • HPR5 is not MB 229.5 certified

        • You are right, it has dropped off from the official bevo list now, but it was on there for many years. I think Penrite must have just stopped paying MB the fees. The 229.5 spec and the oil itself has not changed.

    • I've used both and not noticed any difference in use or performance. Both are excellent oils with good reputation, although Penrite is Australian owned.,

    • Depends on the car drastically, not a simple yes/no question to be honest.

I've used both - Had HPR5 in my B5 A4 and it was good, also had the Castol Edge 5w-40 in it and it was fine too.

Just grab whatever meets your vehicles specification and is cheaper (E.G VW 505.00, for example in my case).

  • Its got what falcons crave.

Going to give this a go in my Falcon. Been using Penrite 5-30 but now it's got 250k on the clock this might be the go.

  • Anyone seen any 10-30 oil on sale?

    • You can use this instead of 10w-30. Just zoom in on the front of the label

      • Anyone tried using it where 10W 30 is specified?
        I've got a 25 yr old Mazda.
Manual says 5W30 is good only below 0 degrees C.
Recommended is 10W-30, so this should be OK based on the label.
But if you look up Penrite's own product selector page, they don't recommend it for the MX5.
(currently using HPR 10, which they do recommend).

  • What about the Mobil 5w40 that is also on sale? Porsche A40 approval too.

  • Good price, now where should I buy discounted supercheap auto gift cards ?

  • Wicked, thanks OP!

  • Do these expire?

    • Generally 5 year shelf life unopened. 1 year if opened.
Being fully synthetic, can be kept longer but I would just hold less than 5 years worth of stock. I've ordered enough for 3 years worth for me as I already have 5L in my shed.

    • +1

It's motor oil, not cooking oil.

  • Order limit 2

  • Solid, I only just managed to get through the last of the 2x20L 5w30 from years ago! Think that was like $20 bucks per container.
