It's currently at a $149 sale price, so select the Apply $30 coupon checkbox before adding it to the cart, then checking out which is where it'll show the final $119 price.

It's been $199 with a $50 coupon available (ie $149) for a little while now, but $119 takes it down to around the 'that's a decent price for it' price that it's semi-occasionally been before. It's been this price since at least yesterday, so hopefully the price and coupon last a bit longer yet.

And this is for the 210T Polyester version and not the 20D nylon ones, which are more expensive. Although they are slightly cheaper than what they have been lately as well.

No actual experience with the tent, but they seem to have favourable feedback in previous deals, which is why I've been keeping an eye out for one.

Rainfly Material 210T rip-stop nylon

very very very good tent, excellent price.

this is a knock off of the MSR tent, but its also 1/4 of the price and kept me dry in heavy non stop rain.

comes with base tarp too. all up <2kg this is a no brainer.

    • None of the variants is <2kg. ~2.15 kg is the lightest one, the white one (4.73lbs) which is 20d.

Phantom Blue-15D Nylon is 2.2kg according to the specs.

Forest Green-210T Poly. - the one in this deal and the cheapest option is 2.4 kg and seems to be a slightly bigger when bagged.

      • My backpack is 50cm high so can't get the one in the deal but the 210T fly and floor version comes in at 48 so might work.

      • Not convinced the white would be 2.15kg. I have the blue 15D and it weighs 2.15kg so being a heavier fabric they might have them around the wrong way. Great tent though!

I have this tent, and have given it away to family. Excellent tent, copy of the legendary MSR Hubba Hubba
Make sure you get the 20D version though - it's 2.5kg all up (pegs, footprint etc) but so roomy. Heaps of space for two people with a vestibule each.

    • Link to the 20 please?

      • +3

You can get to those from the original link, just select the green, purple or grey-1 colour.

  • I read that the 20D version is better than the 210T one.

Any suggestions for backpacking with 2 people which tent is preferable?

    This one? Mongar

The Naturehike Star Up? (20D) $169

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B06Y29NGGK?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp…

    The Cloud Up 3 person? (20D) $210

Not overly familiar with the star as it's a bit less common, but looks like the mongar would have better headroom for two people hanging out inside. Star appears to have more headroom on one side than the other, which would be fine for sleeping but not as good if you wanted to play cards or something.

Mongar is much more practical than the cloud up. Dual entries and functional vestibules for gear storage and cooking.

Cloud up is ok with one person in good weather, but more people or rain aren't fun. This is mostly due to the tunnel style with a single small door on the end. You have to kind of climb over the other person to get in/out. If the door is open then the inner is exposed to rain. Only the very centre of the tent has full height, so you have to be in the right spot to sit up inside.

      • This is bang on. Mongar is great as it's a full copy of a great design, great head room, lots of space due to rectangular shape.
Cloudup is peachy as a mid way solution, though I'd prefer two tents
I have this and a UL one man, best of both worlds

The star-river has higher fabric walls before the mesh than the mongar - that can help keep wind out, heat in, etc.

        • +1

The high walls would help keep the sand and dust out also.. (this is a big issue when it's windy out in the deserts).

  • Does someone know if the extension "Tent Foyer-gray" (one of the colour options in this deal's listing, $84.14 atm) can be attached to any of Mongar variants?

Each colour of Mongar has different material and weight.

  • My son has just started Air Force Cadets and I think one of these should fit the brief.

Any recommendations on the best value sleeping bag too?

    • +3

Is he definitely allowed to byo tent and bag?
When I was a cadet we could only byo a sleeping bag but it had to be from an approved list.

      • +1

Same for me, but this is what he's telling me …

I was in Army Cadets, maybe they take it easier on the Air Force Cadets?! :-D

        • +1

Haha, I was army too, back then the Air Force cadets were called air fairies…

          • @mapax: Hahahahahahahaahaaa

  • Wish it was the Cloud Up 2

  • Ended up buying this one from ebay with the ebay plus discounts

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314126577189?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • That's showing as $182 for me? (With eBay plus.) It's only $175 for the green on Amazon?

Actually, there's a $20 coupon now on the grey on Amazon, so that's also now only $174 at the moment.

      • Different tents, ebay one is slightly shorter when packed, not sure if any other difference?

      • Note it's the white-and-green variant on ebay; that exact colour is not available in the Amazon listing that you posted. And different colour means different materials at Naturehike.

The green one you posted is the cheaper 210T rip-stop nylon version.
The ligther green in the same listing (currently $175.15) might be the same variant as from ebay, as they're both 20D rip-stop.

        • Is the grey one on Amazon and the full green one on Amazon the same?

        • Yeah, sorry, when I said green, I mean the light green 20D version. Wasn't talking about the 'forest green' 210T version.

Having multiple greens, and having them accessible from the same page meant I should have been more specific than I was. And you're right about the eBay one being white and green, I just saw 'green' and 20D and assumed they were the same. Probably shouldn't assume that.

  • Anyone familiar with the Naturehike Cloud Steam Backpacking 3 person tent? Looks like the fly has a 99% uv blocking layer - may also make it darker inside?

    I ended up grabbing a Naturehike Star-River 2, 210T for $117
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Naturehike-Star-River-Double-Ultra…
It will be replacing my old and worn out Companion Hiker Pro 2 which I've been using as a outback/desert motorbike tent for the last 12 years… The old tent has served me well but it's got quite a bit of damage now and there's no way it would be waterproof anymore…

I ended up going for the 210T because it's $50 cheaper and I'm really not bothered by the couple of hundred grams difference in weight since it'll only be used at a motorbike tent… (I have a 20D Lanshan-2 4-season and a 20D Cloudup-1 for when I'm hiking and need light weight)

I went for the Star-River over the Mongar for the high inner sides… I often camp in bulldust and desert sand and with a full-mesh tent like the Mongar and my old tent you end up waking up with sand/dust over and through EVERYTHING when it's windy…

A little follow-up… Here's an 85sec quick run around of the $117 (210T) Naturehike Star-River-2 from this deal > https://youtu.be/kGtOyQ2XNfw <… No real complaints so far, but I've only set it up the once to check it over…

I own 20D versions of the Lanshan-2 and a Cloudup-1 for hiking and I was interested to try a 210T tent… It's a bit heavier than the 20D but it feels a bit more substantial, the material doesn't feel as flimsy as the 20D… This tent it a replacement for the old Companion Pro-Hiker-2 ( https://www.snowys.com.au/pro-hiker-2-tent ) that I've been using offroad on the motorbike for the last 12+ years, it's about the same size and weight…

I'm keen to see how the 210T goes in wet weather, the 20D tents are a real pain to dry once they get wet, even just drying out the condensation on the fly in the mornings is a pain due to how much water the 20D absorbs… They say the 210T absorbs less water so fingers crossed that's true…
