  • It sounds like a good deal, but where is the T&C's on the Jetstar travel card website? I an only find where to apply for the card.

  • I wonder how competitive their exchange rate is

  • +1

Seems only of use if you travel OS this year to limited set of countries- to withdraw currency OS.
Otherwise no $50 voucher! (Can you withdraw money in Oz to qualify?)

No interest on your money - that's a reason why Jetstar love it.
Like cash - you are liable for any unauthorised transactions.
    Minimum Load: $100

    But the FEES:
Initial Load: $15 (waived at moment if $1000 or more)
    ReLoad Fee: $1
ID verification, if required at first load: $25! (Post Office)
ATM Withdrawal Fee: about $3.95, PLUS ATM owners fee!!!
ATM Balance Fee: about $1 (just do online)
Money out in another currency than those listed: 3% + other fees
If insufficient local currency in Wallet: Exchange rate at that time, which may not be as good
Closure Fee: $10!!! (make sure you spend it all to avoid fee, they will close if nil balance for 3 months)
    Card replacement Fee: $35!
    and more fees http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/travelcards//~/_media/pdf/Trave…

    so load $500, $15 first load fee, withdraw 5 x $80 OS = 5x $3.95+, close card on return = $10 = $44.75+ Fees!
(reduce fees by: load with $1000+, do large withdrawals, & spend all money on card)

Only real advantage - locked in exchange rate, may be a disadvantage.
Oh there is the $50 voucher - you paid for it! (3 months to book flight or lose it)

Another, far less complex option (but no $50 flight voucher) use 28Degrees Mastercard or CitiBank Plus Visa Debit & load your own cash - no Forex costs, take money out in local currency anywhere (not just 9 currencies/regions) at ATMs. (Use both cards & keep the Mastercard for credit purchases. I use weekly auto payments to the debit card from high interest account to keep most of the interest.) You should not be liable for unauthorised transactions. You can withdraw smaller amounts of cash as there is no fee, so can be a safer option for travellers on a budget. And no costs.

    • My plan is to get 4 x $50 vouchers between 4 people (4 travel card applications) to use for luggage on existing flights (seems you can apply a voucher when paying for luggage). I was hoping the $15 load fee would be waived for our first (and only) $100 loads (not $1000 - confusing post above) and each spend our $100 in normal POS transations in Australia. Then destroy the Jetstar cards and resume life with 28 Degrees.

Please tell me if I'm doing it wrong before I start doing it.

    • I notice Jetstar Mastercard issued by Macquarie Bank, the millionaire factory, so they get rich at our expense from all the fees hidden in the fine print? Who wanna be a sucker?
