Newby bean questions. How long can you store roasted beans ?

    • +1

Hey there judge39 - great question. Fresh roasted beans should keep well for a number of weeks.
We always recommend consuming within 3 to 4 weeks to get maximum flavour and freshness. They will keep much longer of course but the flavour quality will continually deteriorate over time. Best to keep them in the bag they come in and stored sealed, in a cool dark space.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

Probably controversial but I keep a bag in the freezer until I'm ready.

      • +7

        Only controversial if:
        1. The bag has been opened, isn't airtight or it's made of paper.
        2. You don't tape over the valve before freezing.
        3. You open the bag whilst it's frozen/cold. Once it's out the freezer, let the bag thaw without opening, and then use it.
        4. You refreeze the coffee after using it.

        • +3

Man the double negatives are confusing.

          So the Do's would be:
          1. The bag needs to be unopened or airtight.
          2. You need to tape over the valve before freezing (?? I thought want the valve to breathe/steep)
          3. You need to keep the bag sealed till it reaches room temperature and thaws out.
          4. You should not refreeze the coffee after thawing.

          • +1

@ThadtheChad: I'm often told I'm an overly negative person, so that's fair.

Coffee degassed very slowly in the freezer, so a valve is largely unnecessary. However, the change in pressure due to gasses reacting to the cold can cause the valve to fail and actually reverse its behaviour. Also water on the valve may get sucked in. Better to just make it airtight.

            • @Anders: I would say your response to this has been very positive! :D

That is very interesting. Thanks for that mate. I tend to pop the bag (opened or unopened) into a ziplock bag (perhaps due to some latent OCD kicking in) and I'm glad to see that there may be some benefit to my madness.

      • +1

        Deterioration is ultimately a reaction.

You slow down reactions by making them cold.

        Freezer is the obvious choice..

Fridge/ freezers are reverse cycle machines. So they also remove all moisture. Keep bag sealed in the freezer for maximum longevity.

        • Yea I haven't had any issues or noticed any deterioration and I don't tape the bags just chuck em in straight away. Usually only in there for a month or so.

    • Just for reference, the general rule with coffee for freshness is call the Rule of 3s
Green beans are good for 3 years after drying
Roasted beans are good for 3 weeks after roasting
Ground beans are good for 3 minutes after grinding

This is all assuming the beans are kept in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight

      • I like that sp0rk!!

      • Only true for espresso roasts I'd say. Light roasts can be fine for 3 months.

Oh excellent timing as just about to finish up my second bag. Will place an order when I get home.

  • Which blend is best for cold brew method? Cheers

    • Hey there GangstaKangaroo - if you normally go for the darker roasts for your cold brew I recommend trying the Stargazer Blend.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • thanks ordered one

        • Great stuff GK - please let us know how it goes for you.

    • While I actually do like Vittoria's mountain grown, my machine refuses to pull a decent shot if fed with any supermarket coffee.

Fortunately it's well within the rules for store reps on OzBargain, so they can keep posting their cool deals, and we can keep buying their nice coffee.

      • +2

Seems many people disagree with you. Just hide the deal. Problem solved.

    • +1

Ignore them OP. Keep posting please.

    • Yeah I've tried those. Not really comparable IMHO.

  • OP what's your recommendation for espresso with milk?

    • +1

Hey there gadget - I recommend the Enterprise Blend as a great place to start.

      I hope that helps.
      Cheers
      Dan

  • Thanks, perfect timing just ran out.
Love these beans in weeks 1-5. Super fresh freshly ground. Any leftover beans past week 6 get blended with my bulk Aldi/supermarket ones into my other grinder as my 'house blend'.

    • Great to hear robinsoa - thanks so much for sharing - and that's a great bean strategy you have there!

    • Hey thanks so much oogabooga - really appreciate it.

  • How do these compare to Roasting Warehouse? Wondering if it's worth trying these out and saving some $

  • Hi there, I usually go with the Sumatra beans, but keen to try more. What's light on caffeine and good with milk that you'd recommend?

    • Hi there tomate85 - the Enterprise Blend has slightly less caffeine than the Sumatra and I highly recommend it.
The enterprise id my daily go to with milk.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Thanks. Ordered.

        • Thanks so much tomate85 - super keen to hear how it compares for you.

  • Hey

We have cold brew via drip (2 hour) and add milk.

    Which blend do you recommend?

    Thanks

    • Hey there ilostnemo - I would go for either the Enterprise as a medium roast or the Stargazer for a little darker.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Been supporting you guys since covid, you make the best coffee please keep up the great work you are doing.

    • rosst - thank you so so much. We genuinely appreciate your support abd we are super pleased to hear your feedback.

  • What would you recommend for drip coffee with Abit of milk?

    • Hey there shoelover - I would recommend either the Enterprise as a medium roast or for a bit darker go for the Stargazer.

      I hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dan

      • Oops I ordered Sumatra blend last night. Is that suitable?

        • It will certainly be suitable shoelover - it's a lighter roast than those mentioned but that will bring a whole new level of flavour that you would miss with the darker ones. Let us know how it goes.

          Cheers
          Dan

  • Just completed my first order, chose Sumatra as I prefer lighter roasts and comments on previous deals recommend it.

It will be primarily used for black coffee in pour over, siphon, espresso and cold drip so hopefully I picked well.

    • Hey ScottyDont - thanks so much for giving us a go.
Rest assured you have chosen well.

Keen to hear your thoughts when you have a brew going.

      Thanks again.
      Dan

      • Thanks mate, it's a gamble trying different coffee suppliers so I don't do it often but the good reviews and price got me. I regularly get 3x 250g mixed origins for ~$60

  • Haven't tried Airjo however reading the comments above and the ratings, will pull the trigger and try it out. Personally have been a big fan of Campos Superior so looking for an equivalent. Rep - as per above, would you recommend Enterprise as a good starting point?

    • Hey there Many Penny - yes indeed - The Enterprise is a great one to start with. Thanks for giving us a try, we really appreciate it.
Please shoot us some feedback when you have given it a go.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • What would be the best blend to buy for making Cold Brew with the Toddy System? Typically drink it black

  • Hey whiteshirt123 - I would try the Enterprise as a first one. The Stargazer is a little darker and would be a stronger black though if that's what you are after.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers
    Dan

    • Thank you mate! And just confirming, your 'Cold Brew' grind would be suitable for something like the Toddy System right? I've typically been using a fairly coarse grind, usually on the coarser side of a filter grind. Is that in-line with what your cold brew grind is?

      • Yes mate - it will be spot on!

  • Bought one! Looking forward to testing out sumatra blend!

    • Thanks so much moomeow - super keen to hear your feedback.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Have beans currently to drink through so won’t order now as dont want to lose freshness by ordering now and storing, but will definitely in the future try your coffee. I respect your marketing and responsiveness here as I’m sure you have a lot on your plate. Sounds like your giving it a go and running a good business so more than happy to support it.

    • Thank you for your kind words leroy - I hope we get the timing right for you on the next sale.

      Cheers
      Dan

  • Hey Dan, loved the Enterprise Blend, also liked the Sumatra Blend but caffeine content was a bit high.

I have mine with cold milk (at least until daylight savings ends) and my wife will always have hers with hot milk. We never drink black.

    What should we try next?

    • Hey there maxwolfie - great to hear you are enjpoying theblends so far.
I would recommend the Saratoga as a great on to try next.

I hope that helps and keen to hear your thoughts.

      Cheers
      Dan
