30% Discount Credit for Owner of Older Gen Sonos Devices (e.g. PLAY:1, One SL/Gen1/Gen2, Move, Beam Gen1) @ Sonos

550

Looks like Sonos is temporary increasing the discount credit from 15% to 30% for lots of older gen devices that wasn't originally eligible for the 30% discount credit.

You can still use your old Sonos device after redeeming the discount credit.

From 23 February 2024 at 8 AM GMT to 29 February 2024 at 7:59 AM GMT (the 'Temporary Promotional Offer Period'), Customers that redeem a MOVE, BEAM GEN1, ONE GEN2, ONE GEN1, ONE SL, PLAY:1, PLAY:3, PLAY:5 GEN2, PLAYBAR, PLAYBASE or BRIDGE product, or certain CONNECT or CONNECT:AMP models will receive a Discount Credit equal to 30% off any one (1) regular-priced product or set on sonos.com, with some product restrictions indicated below. Following the end of the Temporary Promotional Offer Period, the Discount Credit for such product shall revert to 15% any one (1) regular-priced product or set on sonos.com, with restrictions. All other terms and conditions remain the same, as specified below.

Kinda feels like they might be on the path to killing them off for good, which would suck…

    • +1

I agree, I still love my motley collection of old gen speakers, and they sound good. They better not kill 'em off, the hardware still copes fine

  • Great find!
if I activate the credit now and use it say next year, will I lock in the 30% credit or will it revert back to 15%?

    • +1

It only reflects the % when you use it, not when you activate it. I had activated 4x credits previously but never used, and now it becomes 30% off. I will just jump in for 4x Era 100.

    • +2

Pretty sure this js only a temporary increase and will revert back to 15%.
Check the terms and conditions first paragraph

    • +2

Looks like after 29/02 the discount code will revert back to 15%

    • +1

I’m not sure that will work, I had a 15% code already activated which now shows 30%. So I’m sure it could happen in the reverse when they drop the values.

  • Can't add the eligible items to cart.

    • The discount code only works on one product or a set.

So if you wanted to buy 2 x Era 100, you can’t add it individually to your cart. You will need to select it from set page for the discount code to work.

      • +2

Tried adding a set, the discount code doesn’t work for me. Only work on single speakers or sets like beam+wall mount

      • Not really, one upgrade credit only work for one item, not set.

        • Yeah looks like its not working at the moment :/

  • +1

    Perfect thank you!!!

  • The One SL is currently $199 at JB and others, could grab one and use it to activate a 30% discount on something over $600. Discount would be greater than 199 and you’d have an extra bookshelf speaker.

    • I don't think this would work, because for me the upgrade credit has always taken some time to unlock. You'd certainly get the 15% eventually, but not the 30% for this promo period.

Fortunately I got a couple of cheap One SLs a while back and have indeed used the 30% off vouchers on a couple of pricier skus.

Sonos- the company that in 2019 was forced to reverse a feature called "Recycle Mode" which initiated a countdown for when the gear would just stop working.

I'm personally a bit wary of buying anything from them.

    • +6

      Also the company that:
      - reversed course and stopped bricking trade in devices after criticism
      - has continued to offer the 30% tradein discount regardless for 4+ years, even on relatively modern devices
      - will still mail in and recycle your gear for free at their expense

To me that’s the sign of a good company and one I’m more than happy to keep doing business with.

      • Steve I wouldn't trust a thing you say after watching Vacation Friends 2, shame on you and shame on Sonos

      • +1

I have to agree, last year I had my 2018 playbar replaced for free (with a refurbished one) due to a known fault. I hadn’t even purchased it in Aus.

        Happy to stick with them

  • Can't seem to get the Era 300 set off one code upgrade. Real shame.

  • You can still use your old Sonos device after redeeming the discount credit.

I never knew this! Always assumed it was a trade-in scheme. Thanks OP

  • Are these discount codes locked to the individual device that you own?

So if I sold a speaker unredeemed, would the new owners be able to access these discounts?

    • The discount is tied to the device according to the FAQ:

Can I resell, gift, or donate my product after activating or using my upgrade credit?
Yes. The next registered owner will not be eligible for the Sonos Upgrade Programme.

      https://www.sonos.com/en-au/upgrade

  • Bigger discount then they give to thier retail partners..

  • Can these credits be used during Sonos sale period? Thanks OP. Nice find!

    • TLDR, No.
Found under their T&C: “The Discount Credit is valid only at http://www.sonos.com and will not expire until used. The Discount Credit is single use. The Discount Credit cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or special pricing and may not be used on gift cards, refurbished products, or third-party products.”

      • So the real question is - which of these products can be bought for under 70% of Sonos-direct pricing during sales

        • Not common that’s for sure!

      • Dang! but as it doesn’t expire you could always try your luck. You never know, sometimes someone slips up on the back end.

  • isnt the quality better with alot of the old ones?

    • Not sure where that is coming from but from my end, I have old Ones and a new Arc both are fantastic. Possibly some of the negative commentary around some of the newer products is people have been underwhelmed by the smaller products (I.e Ray, Beam and Move). On the side of Beam and Ray, they are geared towards small spaces and are weak unless paired with surrounds. Gen 2 Beam is apparently much improved.
Move gen one was bashed for battery length, this has been improved for gen 2.
My advice for starting out if your budget allows is start with an Arc and build out from there. Depending on the size of your space and budget you can expand with Ones and a Sub but you may find the Arc has enough grunt on its own. If you start with a beam you will probably need to get a mini sub shortly after (costing you about the same as the superior Arc)

      • The beam 2 is still quite impressive, mind you i do have the sub mini with it also. My partner is always complaining and asking me to turn it down, i can only imagine the ARC would barely even get to live near its full potential.

    • Haven’t tried ERAs. So can’t comment the latest ones. However I have downgraded from Arc to Playbar after realising my sub gen3 was under performing when it was connected to Arc. Also think ATMOS is just marketing trick. Not sure it is only with the specific Arc i owned.
Plus, i own several Play1s and Ones. Hard to tell differences in sound.

Thanks OP, got a Sonos Mini Sub. Had my eye on that one for a while. Hopefully this won’t turn out horribly, considering I live in an apartment!

  • Damn saw the one SL was 112$ after discount but turned out it was usd not aud. Was on the US site 😢😅

  • I have a bunch of these on the list. I'm guessing it's best to redeem more contemporary device(s) first?

  • +1

Good spot. Enabled me to use a bunch of 15% discounts I had that were relatively useless previously. Shame you couldn’t use a single one on a set though.

  • Wondering
    1. Can I activate it and keep the 30% discount till next time as it never expires ?

    1. Looking at connecting the era 300 to the TV but believe I need an Arc?

    - I see from some comments that the arc has been ? Upgraded/ revised. Is that right?

    • No it will revert to 15% after promotional period
Arc 2 rumoured to be released this year

  • Is cashback eligible when using this?

    • +1

Seems to be got the sub mini and got cashback

  • Is it worth upgrading my Sonos One Gen 2 to the Era 100 ?

    • Yes

  • is worth upgrading from five's to era 300
    with arc and two subs
    ?

    • +2

yes, I'll take the fives off your hands

  • +1

Thanks…pulled the trigger on an Arc

  • Thanks OP, this just turned into an expensive week!
