  • Tossing up between Unifi Protect G5 Bullets w/ my existing UDM Pro, or something like this.

Plus side to this would be I wouldn't need to buy a POE switch as it's already in the NVR…

    • +1

the Unifi cameras are way over priced for their feature set. The Unifi NVR is very basic in features as well.
I would recommend the reolink cameras and especially their PTZ cameras.
Their NVR is unfortunately unable to take full advantage of their Dual Lens feature set though which sucks.

      • I have ethernet cables run for POE camera placement at our house already, any other security systems that you could recommend that would work well? ~$1000 with 4 camera's is my budget and no subscription service.

        • +1

if you're very tech savy you can look at running a server and installing blue iris, it does AI detection and is infinitely customizable but for ease of use stick to reolink.

  • Anyone know how these rate compared with Eufy 2pro 2k? Apart from being wired and 4K.

    • +2

eufy cannot do 24/7 recording and theres a slight delay picking up motion IMO. Cableed any day fi you can otherwise eufy IS the best wireless

      • -1

Arlo is better wireless. Eufy 2nd. Security matters.

  • Looking for a security camera setup for the new home, any recommendations beside this? Open to wired or wireless

    • +1

My mother's Arlo system has good quality video and audio, and live video can be accessed remotely. However you cannot access past recordings remotely unless you pay for a subscription service of about $15 a month (price may have changed since I last checked)

I've set up a bunch or Reolink wireless cameras around my place and a couple of older relatives' houses. Easy to set up and use, and all have been pretty reliable for the last few years. Storage is on SD cards installed in the units and both live and recorded videos are easy to access remotely,
Individual cameras are easy to share with others which is useful for me to share our older relatives' cameras with other family members.

I have a range of their cameras but the best camera I've purchased, and most expensive, is the TrackMix. Dual lenses, one for zoom and the other for wide shots, PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) and auto tracking. But it is rather large if that is an issue for you

  • How is the Reolink app? I currently have eufy and I'm over the apps slow alerts. I'll either use the Reolink NVR or use Scrypted NVR on my Synology.

    • $660 for 4 cameras, no NVR - I’m in the same boat, looking to make the change from Eufy and have a POE switch & synology.

    • +1

The app is great, you just need to explore and you would find that you can customise setting alerts/notifications and sensitivity. The only problem I had was I had two cameras fail, one after 3 months and one after 6 months although these are the old D800s. Their support is great though and usually replies within 24 hours. I managed to get one camera upgraded instead of a replacement and they sent out the product first before I returned the old one. Paid the difference through Paypal so it wasn't a complicated procedure. I also ended up purchasing the POE doorbell and it's much better than that stupid Google Nest Wifi Doorbell.

    • I've been very happy with it. No issues and works when I need it to. I'm accessing about 10 cameras from different properties and I can set it up in a windowed format to view a few cameras at a time. I've also used the Reoling windows App to view feeds when I'm on the PC as well as to save camera feeds on my local NAS.
The only gripe is with the notifications from the Reolink doorbell. It just pops up as another notification so it's easy to miss. In contrast my mother's Arlo doorbell will cause the whole screen to show that a call is coming in from the doorbell so much easier identify that there is a visitor at the door.

    • I've found the app pretty responsive. People and vehicle detection alerts arrive within a couple of seconds - I can usually get to the door before anyone actually gets out of a car and to the front door.

Streaming to third party devices like Google Home as slow as most others, but that's largely a Google issues.

    • @TheButLover Bare in mind the Eufy apps alerts are tied to how quick your internet connection is. Comparing my parents slooow ADSL and my Gb connection, doorbell alerts are multiple seconds slower to come through

    • With reolink POE expect alerts in 3 seconds or less

  • I have seen some ads for 4 camera dahua complete kits installed around $1200 from registered camera installers, aren't they better than this as anyway we have to get a data cabler to install these as well?

    • I think these are better because they're 4K and the alerts are spot-on. I spent $650 for a 4 camera setup from one of those Jim's contractors.

    • I bought a house that came with a professionally installed dahua system of 6 cameras and an NVR and it's horrible to use. Interface is clunky and unintuitive to set up alerts. Been 8 months and I still haven't had the time to figure it out.

I'm looking to switch to reolink because I got the doorbell and it's been amazing compared to dahua.
Wouldn't touch them again even if it cured cancer.

  • 130 clicks but only 5 up votes so I'm guessing although this might be a good system it's not such a great deal?

  • I've had a Reolink system for around 2 years, and it hasn't missed a beat. App works well but I don't have notifications enabled so I can't give my opinion on alerts.

  • Is there a similar bundle with E1 outdoor POE cameras instead? I wouldn't mind having PTZ.

    • I really only need 2 cameras to start with so the 2pk could be worth it for me.

Also Dome Vs Turret. There's also cases where the dome fogs up.
