Fantastic price, got mine for about $850 which I thought was already a good deal
    Very happy with mine

  • +5

Cant tell if people think this is a good deal or just trying to be funny.

    • Its 40% off.

      Probably new model is coming?

    • +4

Jokes aside, it really is a good deal.

  • +2

Oh no, I've had my eye on this for a while. I really don't have the money now, but I think I'm going to have to buy.

    • +1

Just bought. Hope they honour that price - I suspect it is a pricing error (the original ticket price is less than expected at $795, but same as another denon product also on sale).

  • But what speaker do I pair with this?
Currently have active bookshelf so cannot even reuse them

    • I mean, you could reuse them as this has main-zone pre-out for L/R, it'd just be suboptimal

Excuse my ignorance, would anyone know if the HDMI ports on this are 2.1 and if this is important. Thanks :)

    • +6

Denon site specs say 3 ports are 8k60p capable, which should mean they are HDMI 2.1 ports. Nothing definitive on the site tho, sadly.

      • Yeah, it isn't easy to find out but I think you are right. The 3 ports are 40Gbps.

    any one have recommendations for a 5.2.4 ( 4 ceilings ) amp ?

    • Yes.

      Budget?

      • decent

        • -2

          Try this.

          • +1

@notJV: yeah … Ok.. thanks for using your time to reply I guess.

            • @Elijha: In fairness, "decent" isn't a budget.

              • @Morien: In fairies I didn't ask for a price range either - you put that constraint on your reply, if you had a recommendation why not make it?
But thats OK, its an open forum, people can reply or not reply or say what they want, I was jsut after a starting point to get back int this stuff.. my current amp being 15 years old I'ma. Bit out of it, but I do have 4x nice ceiling speakers I could put up and what i had read this is the preferred setup for Atmos - yet I never see this setup.

  • Can someone help me determine if both are the same product?

If you have student beans there is a $40 off at good guys code

  • Ticket price was 1199 or 1299 yesterday and now says it was originally 795 so could be a price mistake or could be the RRP just changed. I bought from Commercial for 759 yesterday. :(

  • Wish I had wait just a little bit longer, got a S670H just a month ago for $630.

  • +2
  • +3

I'm a Denon dealer and that price is well below cost. Surely a price error…

  • I have this one and bought for around the 1000 mark. Paired with focal 826 on special currently with addicted to audio and you have a sick setup for music and tv

  • Anyone know the difference between this and the s970h? which I was going to be purchasing In the next month or so.
Will just buy this if there isn’t much difference though

    • The S970H has an additional HDMI out, more audio inputs (analog and digital), and a bit more power. It has almost the same specs as the X2800H.

The X1800H has better room correction.

      • Thanks so much for the reply.
I’m aiming to do a 5.1.2 set up. With ps5, Xbox, pc Apple TV into the receiver.
Plus connect a sonos connect into this AVR so it links up with my other sonos gear (changing from sonos home theatre to this set up)
That should all be fine with this right?
        Thanks again for your help!

Edit: Sorry one final question, pending on moving into a new place I was considering a dual screen set up, so standard tv during the day then pull down projector screen at night, as this only has one output could I use a splitter to still run the two? Wouldn’t need to be at the same time

        • +1

You'd want a hdmi switch instead of a splitter. Splitter will output to both screens simultaneously

        • +1

Thanks so much for the reply.

I'm not sure. Are you planning to use the Sonos Connect as an audio source only (play audio from the Sonos to the AVR and other Sonos speakers at the same time)? That will work.

I don't think you can use a Sonos Connect to receive audio from the AVR to then play on other Sono speakers, however.

          • @ChiefAJ: Thanks for the reply! Interesting about the Sonos limitations I wasn’t aware. Not a deal breaker though.
            Hopefully they honour the deal!

  • +2

Meh, where are the 3800 deals

  • +4

Deals like this make me grumpy my 20 year amp is still going strong lol

  • +1

Amazing price, too cheap not to buy

  • +2

Will this automatically turn on when I turn on my TV . Tv is an LG C2 .
Also will the volume on the amp go up and down when I use the TV remote ?

    • +3

If you enable whatever Denon calls their version of HDMI CEC, then yes.

  • how does this compare to the Onkyo NR-7100?

  • +2

Currently have entry level Yamaha 5.1 system, amp is RX-V475, sub is ns-sw300, wondering if there will be substantial improvement by replacing the amp only?

    • +3

      Definitely not substantial.

    • Im in the same situation, although I still have the passive sub that came with the V475

    • +1

no, there would not be a substantial improvement in audio quality.

  • +1

Any recommendations on reasonably priced speakers for this?

Currently have a 7.1 setup but they're old and the manual says they're rated at 2(3) ohm..

    • You need real speakers or ebay

      • home theatre in a box you're going to have a bad day.

Klipsch or Polk maybe Wharfedale. Nice wharfdale

  • +1

    Great. Damn price.

At 1k the x1700h was good value , works well, but can’t justify upgrading so soon.

    X1700H take aways:

Integration with home automation doable , if ur using something like HA, and plugins. (I’m using homebridge)

Only fault is Disney app on Apple TV whines coz it detects the ps5 and throws a hdcp error. Fix is reboot of amp.

Also wish it had pre outs. Some markets get pre main channel preouts, but not the one I got.

Drives kef q150s very well, better than the marantz SR5008 before it

    • Annnnnnnnd the x1800h gets pre outs according to the listing! Dang

      • I have the 1700H too and it's entry level receiver. It's great for the latest codecs and connectivity but gutless when you crank. Even with the pre outs, it'll be low voltage output to an amp. I bought mine for $300 used with balance of warranty and won't pay more. There's a reason why it's heavily reduced

        • Agree it’s entry level in the world of amps , important to be realistic about that going in. My 2 channel power amp in another room with ~120w per channel is a dramatic improvement in sound quality at moderate levels even though power obeys inverse square law and 120w in theory isn’t much louder than 80w. Can’t take Watts too seriously.

Per channel the 120w amp uses 6 transistors where the Denon uses 2. But hey, almost all AVR / receiver amps use high gain transistors, or smaller power supplies etc. compromises are made, but I think it’s a good all rounder and this price means it’s appropriate for something that goes out of date so quickly.

Maybe a good comparison, rather than higher end models, is soundbars. Of course audio is very subjective, so some might feel this is a clear upgrade over a sound bar, some might not. Both are correct 👍. Personally I like the modular nature of passive speakers and I enjoy my little x1700h, and yeh, I agree with you here, it’s just a baby. https://youtu.be/qNZrIgppe6o

Fun fact when my sr5008 died and we went back to the tv speakers, my partners reaction to the tv speaker quality was ‘urgh’ lol

          • @yahms: As I am using mine for the master bedroom, it's driving the polk RtiA3 speakers. It is struggling when you crank it up. I had an older Integra DTR 50.2 receiver and it was balsy for its time, but it had the common soundboard/HDMI death in its iteration (Onkyo). My next replacement will not be a Denon, but at least 2 tiers above the base model with all pre-outs. I have purchased second hand receivers over the years and not yet have regretted it. You practically pay half the extortionate price for it new.

            • @vinni9284: Yeah I’ve generally gone second hand, my little denon was my first ever retail amp! Good bargains out there if you don’t care about the latest hdmi standards. Shame about the integra

      • +1

The pictures showing pre-outs on the The Good Guys website look wrong. The picture of the rear of the unit has power rating label of 120v ~ 60Hz near the power socket.

If you compare it to the picture on the Denon website it doesn't have pre-outs and it shows the power input label of 230v ~50/60Hz.

        • +1

Can confirm the AU version doesn’t have the front pre-outs. Only the 2 subs.
Just received mine (AVRX1800HBKEA which I paid $895 for :( ) and disappointed to find it doesn’t have the main pre outs (as shown in many pics of this model)

          • @LTLurker: Good info for those looking at this post tho, thanks for letting ozb know

  • +2

    Damn fine coffee.

Man this is tempting. Have a Sony STR-DN1070 which is all around excellent but doesn't pass through Dolby Vision because Sony are jerks and think I'm going to pay them $1500 for a new amp for that feature. Joke's on them, I'll pay someone else for a new amp.

    • Are you referring to the Sony str-an1000?

        • I was holding out for a good deal on the STR-AN1000 but it never came around. Cheapest I saw was $1399 but for that money I could buy myself a Denon x2800 so in my opinion Sony is overpriced on their receivers by a long way.

Im not taking away anything from the quality of the Sony receivers, just no way they could compete with a deal like this.

          • @metka2: Fair. Mine sounds fantastic but has some really stupid software limitations and I really dislike Sony's approach to updating their products. Very capable hardware, garbage software basically.

  • How does this compare to Marantz NR1711?

Pulled the pin, delivery not till estimate 13th March :( leaves me plenty of time to find speakers, so what the Ozbargain consensus on a speaker kit, dont need anything crazy and nothing too bulky! Thanks in advance

    • I ordered mine just then too but got 12th of March. I'm in WA where abouts are you located?

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to how to choose a sub based on this amp?

    • Yamaha NS-SW300 are good
      SVS SB-1000 PRO even better

      • Thanks for your reply, how did you work out that those 2 suit this amp well?

        • +1

subs don't really "match" with amps, those are just two well-regarded subs

          • @harro112: Oh I see, I didn’t want to get a sub that couldn’t get enough power from this amp. Or because it’s AC powered it doesn’t matter (like car stereo’s)?

So you’re saying literally any sub will work with this amp?

            • +1

@Lionheart: any sub will work. if the sub is active (has its own amplifier), as most are, simply connect the sub to the subwoofer out jack with a mono RCA cable. it would also be possible to run a passive sub using the receiver's own amplifier, but i probably wouldn't recommend going down that path. both the NS-SW300 and SVS SB-1000 PRO are active subs.

edit: to throw my 2c in, the best value subs are often second hand ones off marketplace - you can often find extremely capable ones for ~$100 rather than spending hundreds and hundres.

              • @harro112: Thanks so much mate, very much still learning about all of this stuff
