  • whats a good upgrade from an original dji mini?

    • +3

Mini 3 would already be a decent upgrade. But if you have the budget I would recommend just going for the mini 4 pro. If you can purchase with discounted gift cards makes this a really good deal.

      • thanks man i think i can get the 3 for about 1k so id be going for this at the 1200 or so. is there any others i should look at before i buy this say 1500 budget?

        • as someone that has had a Mini 3 Pro for awhile and a Mini 4 Pro since launch, yeah, I personally feel you won't do better than a Mini 4 Pro for the budget you have in mind. Its insanely good. Mini original had a 2.7k camera. The activetrack and the sheer amount of modes, absolutely terrific device.

          • @seamonkey: Tempted to upgrade to the mini 4 pro after selling my mini 3 pro. Would you recommend upgrading?

            • @TechNerd: Yeah it was a no brainer for me.
Ended up getting something like $850 for the Mini 3 Pro on eBay so absolutely worth it in my opinion.

Mini 4 Pro: Features omnidirectional obstacle sensors for enhanced safety during flight.
Mini 3 Pro: Has tri-directional obstacle avoidance.

RC controller also loads better. (Its RC2) range
etc. light on base of drone, I like the feet more for landing, gimbal cover way better and so on.

              • @seamonkey: Do both the mini 3 and 4 pro have the ability to tilt the gimbal vertically, or is that only on the 4?

            • @TechNerd: Only if you use it very often in different conditions, the upgrade on paper is very good but all down to your usage.

        • +3

Fwiw: I spent a while looking and really DJI has almost no competition in the mid-high end hobby photography drone sector. I find it kind of shocking that companies like GoPro aren’t even trying to compete. Theres a bunch of options in the sun $500 budget range but then almost nothing besides DJI until you you reach >$3000. The comparison is really just between the different DJI drones and imo the mini 4 is a clear winner given the better tracking and vertical shooting for IG etc.

          • @OpticalCog: Although GoPro is publicly listed, it has one majority shareholder. It would be too risky for them to get into drones.

Especially when compared to DJI which is partially state-owned and backed by the CCP.

Fully agree there's no competition in the mid-high end hobby photography drone sector.

          • +2

@OpticalCog: GoPro did make a drone. it was an epic fail and a laughing stock for the drone world. they havent attempted a drone since.
DJI is miles ahead in R&D, brand name and product range. as long as they keep on innovating, they'll be the industry leader for years to come.

      • True, you never know when you might need to fly your drone 18km away instead of 12km.

  • Reckon JB Hifi would match this price?

    • +1

Yep you shouldn’t have any problems price matching TGG

    • +3

Just got one from JB, zero problems price matching and also didn't have any issues with me using 15 gift cards.

    • Find a DJI store and they will always do cheaper than JBH or Good Guys.
Theres one in Macquarie Shopping Centre for those in Sydney.

    • If anyone is interested, I have two price matched JB Hi Fi links that I won't be using (1 link is for the standard and the other link is for the plus version). Just send me a DM and I will share the link.

Don’t forget 10% off TCN Him Gift Cards go on sale Wednesday & Special tech head gift cards go on sale on Thursday

    • So is that 2 days in a row to buy cheap jb gift cards?

      • I bought these today. Apparently take 24 hours to activate, I tried to price match with JB and their JB deals link says I cant use TCN gift cards, I thought once you swap it, you get JB Gift cards, has anyone done it?

        • I bought TCN Cards today, walked 5 minutes and used them in JB-Hifi without any issue.

          • @thefunkygibbon: So i figured out that if you check the balance first then try to swap and it works.

Once I swapped them with JB cards, it worked fine.

  • +1

Used to have the mavic pro back in the day. Great fun and range. Nowadays unfortunately more controlled and more rules. Don't hear much "buzz" around anymore. Would like one if lived out bush bit more. Follow me mode is awesome when on a bike ride. Good price.

    • Have seen new fpv drones for army. Can easily follow any high speed vehicle with the payload. What a time we live in.

      • Check our skydio for advanced autonomous follow function

  • Waiting for Amazon to follow suit.

  • I'm so glad I got the mini 2 cheap when I did. It's a great simple drone at a good price.

The cost of the minis is out of control now.

    • +1

      I'm the same.

Half the time I don't use my mini 2 due to wind… but you pay twice the price for a mini 4 and it can't do much better in the wind.

      • Don't get me wrong, the 4 is clearly superior but I'm not an idiot pilot, I know to be careful and think so I've never gone into a tree without the sensors.

4k 24 is a nice 'cinematic' look too, so I'm honestly real happy with it, great little device, I don't think I'll upgrade for ages.

Anyone know if you can use multiple TCN/ or Ultimate gift cards on the good guys website?

    • Wanted to know as well.

    • +3

No you cannot - max one Ultimate card and must cover whole transaction. You need to take the Ultimate gift cards in store and buy a TGG gift card worth $1444/$1424 and pay for it with the ultimate gift cards (ask to split payment across multiple credit cards 500>500>444). Then you can redeem the TGG card online.

      • Just to understand correctly,
        1. we buy the TCN gift cards in 3 denominations.
        500
        500
        444
        2. Exchange the above gift card with one good guys gift card worth 1444.
        3. Purchase the drone using good guys gift card.
        Is this correct?

  • So, after buying this it's a simple process to buy https://www.d1store.com.au/products/dji-mini-4-pro-crf-2-yea… ?

    • +1

yeah or direct through DJI & the app

Edit: you also need to buy & activate the plan no more than 48 hours after activating the drone or you may be unable to apply it to your device

  • +1

Mini 5 pro will be launching in a few months, so hold out for that if people can wait

    • +3

I swear the Mini 4 only launched recently.

    • Seriously, another one?

      • +3

I looked and the Mini 4 launched in September 2023. I think we're fine until at least September.

    • +1

can't find any annoucements for Mini 5 pro…dont think the next release will be until 2025

  • Anyone know if good guys do price match for the products purchased 1 week ago?

    • Pretty sure they still have a 30 day price guarantee or something similar. Not sure if cash or store credit.

  • +1

    awesome deal OP

  • Apparently the Ultimate Gift Card 10% idea has expired yesterday according to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/831582 ?
Also seems the Student Beans offer expired to?
Or am I not understanding the process meant by the OP correctly?
Actually, I've never bought gift cards to buy an expensive item like a DJI mini 4 pro drone….someone care to explain the important steps to get this good discount to purchase for $1290 please? :)

    • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833242 new deal from Woolworths, the Student Beans offer is back down to $20 off.

    • +2

To keep it simple ignore the SB offer as it’s only $20. I would suggest getting the discounted gift cards in the variable load so 3 cards 500>500>444. I’ve never used the Woolworths gifts cards but assuming they’re similar to the Ultimate ones you just ask to split payment between cards 500>500>444 in store. Can’t redeem multiple cards online directly.

      • so what, instore is the only way to use TCN GCs?

Edit: nvm say your other comment

  • Anyone got a Student beans code they might be willing to DM

      • +1

        true

  • -3

Drones are useless in Australia unless you live in the middle of nowhere, too many restrictions, everything is illegal.

    • ?? How so. This comment only makes sense if you live in Melb/Syd and refuse to go beyond the confines of the city and even then all the drone laws in Aus seem pretty reasonable/common sense to me.

  • I noticed there is someone selling brand new DJI mini 3 pro plus flymore kit for $600 on FB marketplace, how on earth is this possible?

    • Almost 100% chance of being a scam..

      • Agree. I'm (WA) actively looking to upgrade my DJI Mini 1 at the moment and have been watching FB marketplace pretty closely. The DJI Mini 2 Fly More packs that appear around the $600 mark hang around for a few weeks, then ones around $500 seem to go within a few days. Haven't seen any 3's anywhere near this price range.

          • @noise36: Ah right. The same chap is also selling new iPhone 12 Maxs, piles of boxes of Playstation 5's (with/without disk), iPhone 14 Pro Maxs, MacBook Pros in boxes, OLED Switches in boxes, Surface Pro 8s, Roborock vacs, Dyson this and that…

Let me know how you get on :)

            • @nzcoops: Stolen or just a scammer maybe?

              • +1

                @noise36: I would assume scammer.
I mean, it is a lot of expense kit for a non-retail store to have on hand and available right. But stranger things have happened.

    • If it sounds too good to be true…

  • seeing as you have to go instore anyway (if using TCN GCs): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833525 $1288 is a cracking deal

  • easier to use tomorrow's 10% off Special over 15x100 TCN GC? Unless Special take longer to issue and activate GC.

    like provided by @TechNerd

  • Have DJI FPV and quite enjoyed it. Time for a change. Would anyone know how these are compared to FPV?

  • +2

Well, I didn't realise this morning when I woke up that I needed another drone, but here we are. And apparently the TCN gift cards have a limit of 10 per day. But was lucky enough to first find local stock of the drone at The Good Guys and put it on hold. Then I got 10x$100 TCN Him cards from Woolies accross the road. Back to GG, used my $30 voucher from the conveniently received SMS, scanned through the 10 cards and paid the rest with just on my savings card. Missed out on the further $40 discount I could have got if I had waited until tomorrow to be able to buy more gift cards, but oh well. So a total of $1338 paid for the Fly More Combo Plus. Looks unbelieveably small and sleek after my trusty old DJI Phantom 3 Standard. And I love the included little carry case.

  • +1

Woke up and saw this! Thanks OP.
Did the same as last post. Got 10 HIM cards at Woolies due to maximum PER DAY, not transaction (I tried another transaction didn’t work). Used the SMS $30 off I got today along with $20 TGG Storecash (stackable if you have more). All up paid $1318 for the MP4 Fly more PLUS model. Only disappointment was my unit (last one left at Tempe) had a production date of 09/2023. Still pretty cheap for not too much trouble.

  • Any downside of getting the Plus? Will the Karens and CASA know that I’m using a Plus battery?

    • +1

I’m banking on no. From memory the only difference in Aus for 250+/- is that you have to be >5.5kms from a controlled airport(I.e major airports). If you travel is more of an issue in countries throughout Europe.

      • Does the app know which battery you’re using?

        • Sorry no idea, I’m yet to unbox.

    • Nah, just like they won't know if you use it to perve on nude bathers.

    • Stuck between the two…. Help me decide please!

      • get the plus

      • Standard battery = 34 mins, 80 grams
        Plus battery = 47 mins, 120 grams.
Usually $100 more for the plus, now just $24 difference

In theory, weight of 1.5x standard should give you 51 mins however 47 mins should be plenty…

  • Which goggles are the best to use with the Mini 4 Pro, and best place to buy?

  • +2

Had a quick test flight this evening and i'm impressed, even 48mp mode looks good but in 12mp mode the photos are very clean.

    • +1

After doing short flights for a couple of days, I have to say, I am very impressed with this little drone. Sure, you can expect a bit for this price, but at the same time a few years back you'd just be happy to get any kind of aerial images. I'm no professional, but for me the photos look nice and sharp and videos stable and beautiful.

  • +3

Shopback just released upsized cashback to 6% + a bonus 10% cash back (capped at $80) if use a linked Westpac card. Ends midnight tonight.

If calculating right it ends up a total of around $1277

  • Damn - was going to order today, but already expired. Still on sale at the DJI store - reckon JB will price match (need to use up my gift cards)?

  • and… no longer on sale at DJI either :(

    • I made this mistake with the last DJI sale hesitated for a day and it expired :( imo anything around the 15% off mark just grab it 😂 buy first, think later.
