To TEMU, or not to TEMU. That is the question.

I buy from AliExpress, bangood, and so many other sites.

But never used Temu. I’ve heard some say no issues, just like others. But some people say it’s a scam site that takes your details.

What are people’s thoughts?

    Pretty good
Quick, can't comment on quality, but most of the stuff ive bought is really decent

I use it to buy small cheap items. Like cloth repair patches, forget toys, puzzle games, etc. Cheap enough to buy and throw out if it’s crap.

Always used Apple Pay to make payment and not store any card details on there though.

  • Is it tee moo or T MU

      clothes cow not drink pokemon

    • Ti Moo according to an American Superbowl ad

    • Tee Mu

    • i already read it as teh-mu

but now thinking about it im not sure how i arrived to that…

The vowel sounds in most other language than English is: A - ah, I = ee, U = ew E = eh, O = or.
So you're correct if they're following the standard phonetic approach. Chinese can be tricky though because they slightly deviate from the formula, their Es can sound a bit like As. So… it's complicated.

I find Aliexpress is cheaper than Temu, hence don't use Temu anymore

depends on what it is, found the opposite on some items.

If my recommendations on ads for that site are anything to go by - a website that sells human sized body condoms, impact drivers and willy warmers.

      Temu is the new Wish.com.

Wish was valued at 12billion just 4 years ago and was sold this year at 173m. Yikes.

      • That's an even bigger implosion than MySpace. If anyone remembers MySpace (still around but seems mostly for Indie musicians). MySpace was king in about 2007, but dethroned by FaceBook 1 year later.

        • Nah! Anyone kool was on Friendster.

      • I ordered 3 things on Wish on seperate occasions pre-covid and never received them. Got my money back, but still annoying. That's why I stopped using them.

  • +5

Temu might come up cheaper than AliExpress by a significant amount, but the average quality of goods on offer are an entire floor below AliExpress.

After my first purchase, my advice would be to avoid.

I use it but only with a MasterCard prepaid card so it's not connected to my actual daily cards. Roughly a $12 investment for peace of mind that I don't have to risk getting my card leaked.

My friend only bought a single $2 item and did get an attempt of a random attempt of $600 to her card like 2 weeks later so use at your own risk.

Quality and price probably compare with AliExpress. If it's generic things like nail charms or random household decoration I think there's no difference, but clothes or things you'd want a bit more quality on I'd be wary of.

Cheap prices probably made possible from selling your data 😮‍💨

  • +9

Totally acceptable as long as you’re morally okay with sweatshop slave labour and e-waste/landfill quality. Have a little think why these things are so cheap.

    • +9

Thanks I'll jump on Temu now.

Temu accepts Google pay, PayPal, afterpay, zip and klarna. they won't get your card details that way

  • I haven't used it myself but someone I know was raving about how good it was last week.

  • +12

Temu is an unprofitable expansion of a Chinese retail giant into the west. Given it is inprofitable, you are likely to find some genuine bargains but the whole thing is set up like a gambling app designed to get money out of you so there is a trade off.

You just need to ask yourself how much cheap crap do you need in your life?

    • +1

who told you its unprofitable? you are delusional if you think its not profitable for them, see we are used to over paying for crap here that this dude thinks temu is not making a profit. everything sold on there is actually close to the real cost of how much a Chinese person would pay in china with a slight markup. they are profiting for sure but a low margin. and again dont buy shit you dont need. only buy stuff you actually need, for instance i bought a replacement ear pads for my hyper x gaming headset coz the originals were absolutely worn out. for things like this its perfect.

      • +3

There’s heaps of speculation out there that Temu is running at a loss for the time being to gain market share and squeeze out competitors. Amazon didn’t make a profit for years doing the same thing.

Ignoring all that, my experience with Temu has been that the quality of products is cheap garbage and the actual buying experience is even worse. It’s all dark UI patterns and fake casino-style gamification tricks that get in the way of you actually browsing the site. I see the appeal in the same way I see the appeal of dollar stores, but personally I’d rather usually spend a little more for a higher quality product.

        • +1

nah man amazon always made profit they say that on paper for tax reasons, coz they reinvest every profit back into the company so they dont have to pay tax, therefor they are "running at a loss" lol

  • +1

Don't give them payment details directly and use a spam email address. Deliver to a parcel locker or similar if extra paranoid.

I haven't used them though it's just about being as careful as possible.

  • +4

it’s a scam site that takes your details.

Its not a scam site, they will send you plastic garbage. Friend and I did have our CC details stolen a month after though. I never had to cancel my CC before, I'm usually very cautious. If your going to buy landfill use PayPal.

Deleted my account after, its all garbage anyway.

  • +1

Paypal, no direct payment. About 15 orders so far, quick delivery, bag packaging is meh (boxes inside often slightly crushed). DOA/Returns -very good for refund or credit (doa- raised a ticket, sent photo/instant credit)

Delivery times have been spot on so far. Sure, a lot of crap on the site and some items I have purchased similar to that from other sites have been less in terms of quality.I'd rather buy Temu than the Darwin/Remote WA seller bs on Ebay

  • Ive used them a couple of times and have been happy with the products i recieved, the price , and the delivery time

Here is a deal i posted last year with a bit more info .

Easier to deal with than AliExpress & shipping seems to be heaps faster. App design is better. Quality is the same as AliExpress… market still / dollar shop stuff.

  • +1

Had to cancel my credit card after using temu. Not sure if that’s a coincidence or not.

  • +1

Stay away from that shit. Just more crap you don't need for way too cheap.

It's not actually anything new, these incredibly cheap online stores for chinese factory goods have been around for over a decade. However due to the geography and market size of Australia, they were more aimed at North America and many didn't offer free shipping to Australia. They might harvest your data for marketing, but if foreign governments are using backdoors in retail sites to gather data, it's to target defence and government personnel. What kind of cheap shoes you like is not useful data to the CCCP.

If you care about working conditions or intellectual property you shouldn't buy from them. That doesn't mean buying the same morally-ambiguous knock-offs for 2-4x the price from eBay or Amazon is any better. Even goods from brick-and-motrar stores may have the same issues, the oversight of these supply lines is all pretty bad. Nobody at Big W is doing forensic investigations of the company that makes the $2 bouncy balls.

I gave them a try, shipping was not too painful (7 days), goods were at the expected quality for the price, don't expect miracles and you won't be disappointed. I like it better than AliExpress which I have found to be very annoying to shop at. The selection was good for some industry-specific goods I wanted, though some categories are flooded with accessories and crap. I would use them again if I couldn't find a product locally.

  • Temu sells a lot of stuffs that are from the same factory of alibaba or banggood. However their price is much more premium. I don't think they can survive between aliexpress cheapies and more hand-picked products Ikea, Bunning

  • +2

    Temu is top quality CRAP

sometimes its that bad, you will open the package and just put it straight into the bin

  • Have used it a couple of times. Super fast shipping. Quality is what you would expect from Ali Express.

Just don’t play those cheezy games (to get free $$) they offer for discounts. It’s a pain!

  • Bought a few different shirts. Worst quality imaginable IMO. Cheap but literally garbage and terrible for the environment. Not to mention their gambling/pressure buying aimed at kids and oldies. I'm sad I bought anything from them in hindsight.

  • Nothing wrong with buying those cheap kitchen products or shirts. Definitely not with computers or expensive electronics.

  • bought twice and had very good experience with them especially on the second time. Second time the package went missing and after i spoke to the Temu via online chat i got a full refund on the items that sold out and got the other items on the list resent. A week later i found the package in my daughters room and she said I thought you would have known the package arrived and left on her table in her bedroom like im psychic…anyways the package of the resent good also came a week after that. Both times delivery came within the 2 weeks as promised.

Temu has minimum order requirements. Some cheaper than aliexpress some not. Not as wide a range of products compared to aliexpress or ebay.

    • +1

You can get rid of the minimum spend. Speak to chat and ask to remove the minimum spend and you'll get an automated reply by chat bot to remove it with one click link.

      • Oh wow really!!! I thought they needed minimum spend to save on shipping costs? Is this everytime or just once off?

        • +1

Depends I think. Mine went from $15 minimum spend to $20 then to $35 last week and I was pissed off cause I'm a regular buyer.

I created a new account and it was $15 but I decided to speak to chat on why my original account is now $35 and I got a chat bot reply to remove it with a one click link in chat and it completely removed the minimum spend.

I purchased 2x already without minimum spend but maybe it will go back to a minimum soon.

Try it, speak to chat and you should get an automated reply to remove it.

Looked at it a few time trying to understand the hype, but couldn't figure it out. I buy mostly tech/electo and or specific things, like o-rings, special SS screws, very unique things from AE and pretty much 80% on whats in my AE cart wasn't even in Temu. I'm already miles infront from AE. Bundled with coupons and S&S deals sweeten the deal. I'm happy with AE.

  • whatever i want to buy i search it on ali and temu, some stuff are cheaper on temu i buy it from there, some stuff are cheaper on aliexpress so i buy them from ali. ebay for more in a hurry stuff with 4 days delivery. lastly amazon. (suprisingly amazon does have some good deals from time to time with quality brand name accessories, phone cases, chargers, battery packs.etc

  • I've used it before, got all my order, product quality is what you expect

How ever the in door slippers are clutch for $4

  • Oh forgot to say compaing prices to bunnings, vastly cheaper on Drill Bits and screws depending on how you shop for it.

Bunnings and Garden stuffs much cheaper.

  • +1

I got no issues, I use PayPal + parcel locker.

Temu is mostly full of crap but some good items does get through the cracks.

The ones that failed are electronics, ALL electronics I have purchased failed within 3 weeks and lucky for the 1 month return window, refunding is easy.

  • Free shipping got me excited and bought a few from them, in general, the quality is crap but not totally useless….won't buy again tho…

  • The people buying shirts and dresses from Temu remind me why its good to be wary of reviews on the internet

I've never bought from Temu but I was making a list of things when there was the 50% cashback. It seemed like the same stuff was 20% more than I could find on Ali. I only buy small objects though. Things like electrical boards, or metal garden fittings, occasionally small DC pumps

  • Have we all forgotten why shipping is free. Watch this

  • It's the only place I've been able to find t-shirts that I can actually wear now. I've lost weight so really needed to replace the ones I've worn for the past 6yrs.

Looked on aliexpress and I either couldn't find similar or they were more expensive. I can't wear anything that gets too close to the front of my neck (sensory issue, makes me feel like I'm being suffocated). But all the t-shirts in stores or even the online stores that I've used before only seem to have shirts that have small neck lines. The few that don't are made of fully patterned material which I hate the look of.

Ended up buying 7 shirts in varying colours & graphics all for $9-$13 each. In theory they should all have had the same style, size & sleeve length considering they were all using the exact same details and pictures. In reality, there are real differences in some of them, such as 3 having almost no sleeves at all, and the rest having ones that look slightly longer than in the picture. Also, some are a lot tighter on me than others. Those I'll be saving for when I've lost more weight. Still, I now have plenty of shirts, and it was a lot cheaper than if I'd bought them locally.

  • Paypal is your friend. It's the same stuff as what you'll find on Aliexpress, Shein, Wish, and a lot of Chinese sellers on Ebay.

  • are items from temu aus shipped from an aus warehouse?
