Ainol Novo 7 Crystal Android 4.1 Tablet 8GB Free 2 Day Fedex $105 (+ Brainwavz M2 for $27)

330
fb2012fiver

Note: Black is sold out, for the white one, please follow the link below.

This morning I noticed the sale on Ainol Crystal on MP4Nation, which is a very popular one amongst fellow Ozbargainers, so decided to post. It's a great option for people who are after a 7 inch tablet and the price also includes free Fedex delivery (which arrives in about 2 to 3 days by experience). The tablet comes with Android 4.1 (jellybean on it)

I can vouch for the store, MP4Nation. I've purchased many items from them in the past (earphones and tablets), delivery is fast, customer service is great.

If you apply the coupon code the price comes down to US$108.77 (which is about AU$104.89). But the deal doesn't stop there.

Now I usually ignore bundle purchase offers, but this time there is a really good one for an earphone. If interested, keep reading:
You will notice an option for an earphone bundle. Now one of those is I think a must have for that price: The Brainwavz M2. If you pick it, with the discount code, the total comes down to $131.91 (US$ 136.91). Which is only $27 for the earphones. The earphones sell for about $75 locally (@headphonic and @minidisc). I haven't tried M2s myself yet, but here is the first review I have come across:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/491435/review-brainwavz-m2-beyond-g…

Please note that the actual link is for the black model of the tablet. There is also the white one available for the same price, with the same earphones deal:
http://www.mp4nation.net/tablets-phones/ainol-novo-7-crystal…

Don't forget to use the code 'fb2012fiver' and select free Fedex as the delivery option at the checkout.

If you're OK with it, my referral link:

Hope this helps. Enjoy!

I think im gonna wait it out for the Nexus 10, too many tablets to choose from these days

    • +4

and too many gadgets laying around at home already.

      • lol, ebay is your friend.

  • Thanks, I was going to get it from buyincoins, but mp4nation seems to have better rep.

    • No worries. Hope you'll like it.

  • Great deal and I am looking for something like this, it's just bad timing. After exams and close to the end of this year/next year I'll buy a tablet… I've spent too much money lately. (stupid Ozbargain :P )

  • Anyone had any experience with this tablet? Also, the bezel looks huge!

  • Hard to fault at that price point but poor battery life (5hrs advertised so that has to be closer to 3 or 4 but i'm just assuming) no bluetooth and no GPS make it a 'no deal' for me. Correct me if i'm wrong but no Ainols' have Bluetooth or GPS.

    • Why people keeps complain no GPS/no bluetooth? For $100 tablet what do you expect?

      • what do people use bluetooth in tablets for?

        • BT Keyboard I guess, but then that drains the battery.

        • Mostly people used to use them for Internet tethering to their Iphones (back in the day when Iphones didn't support wi-fi hotspot). Today, bluetooth keyboard and mouse maybe? But then again a keyboard docking station makes more sense to me.

        • Yeah, I intend to get one of those keyboard/case combos.

      • It wasn't a complaint per se. I was saying that no matter what price point, if it didn't have GPS then I wouldn't buy a tablet. Mainly because i'd be using it for travel and mapping…but that's just me. But you're right, like I said, it's hard to fault that price for what it is.

    • Ainol Fire has BT only, but it doesn't run Jelly Bean and its more expensive.

      • +3

Ainol Fire has to be the best product name ever.

        • I'm normally the first one in the crowd to be heard THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID'ing and I didn't even pick up on that one. lolz

        • +1

          I'm disappointed in you Hinee.

  • I take it this will have no problems (if plugged into mains power) running a 500gb portable hard drive powered from this device and then going mini HDMI > LCD TV for watching movies?

    • +1

From what I read it should be fine. But the battery will last longer if you plug your portable drive to a power source.

      • This is for travel, so small unpowered hard drive, but the tablet will be powered by mains power so surely there will be no drain on battery?

        • Yeah should be fine then.

        • And, it does come with a power cable right?
And would it be an Aus pattern?
Sorry, just cant see any additional info, it says it has usb cable and earphones but no mention of power cable or plug pattern

        • I've heard that having a high drain process (like running video while powering an external hdd might be) while having a low battery will shorten the life of your battery considerably, in which case it would be recommended that you make sure when you start the battery is either fully charged or close to it

        • For a hundred bucks, who cares.

        • dup.

Screen specs state IPS screen but i'm pretty sure its MVA

    • Can anyone vouch for this MVA screen? This could be a deal breaker otherwise

    • I bought one on a previous deal and it's an MVA screen. It's not an IPS screen - it's really not a bad screen but it does suffer from a lack of brightness. Viewing angles aren't bad though.

  • We have a google nexus 7, bought a few months ago and its great. Only problem with it is seeing how much cheaper it has got recently!

Anyway this runs the same OS and I'm looking for a cheaper option for my daughter. Just for books and basic stuff.

What are people's experience with this brand/model as the price and specs look pretty good.

    • You get what you pay for with tablets. I bought the Ainol Aurora when it came out, overall it was an ok purchase. Great screen, light, microSD slot. The build quality is rubbish though, the screen flexes and there is a visible gap between the screen and plastic exterior.

They rush these things out fast, so don't expect them to be upgraded to the newest version of Android, also the battery life is abysmal - 5 hours is highly unlikely. Since I got a Nexus 7 the Ainol is unused so my suggestion is to pay a little bit more and get another Nexus 7.

  • Has anyone had problems with customs and lithium batteries. My brother just had an ainol tablet rejected by Chinese customs for that reason. He purchased it from an ozbargain special.

    Anybody have this problem recently??

      from Buy In Coins website

Notice: shipment of batteries before Nov. 10th 2012
Due to the latest China Custom regulations, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to ship single batteries during this time until Nov. 10th 2012. If you do need to order any batteries, we suggest you combine your order together with other products, like iPhone cover, etc. However, if you purchase batteries only, we will have to cancel the order and apply full refund for you. We appreciate your understanding and are happy to inform you that the recent China Custom regulations are only temporary. Any shipment of batteries after Nov. 10th 2012 is expected to go smoothly.
For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact our customer service team.

    • I bought a 10.1" one from MP4Nation 2 weeks ago and got delivered with no problems in 3 days. I think being delivered by Fedex makes a difference in terms of customs clearance speed.

  • Thanks for the deal…was looking for options to gift a handy device to parents overseas for skype chats and this one looked perfect for the price!!

    • No worries. Hope they enjoy it.

  • Good deal but I'm not happy!! Just bought one at Lightake for $111.70 last Sunday. Might take 2-3 weeks to arrive. :-(

  • I still prefer the anal fire

    • Was that before or after your visit from the anal elf II (-;

  • The white one photo still show black.

    • Yeah, that was the same with the Cube tablet I ordered. The title said white and the photo displayed black. The one I received was correct (white). So, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Just ordered one. Hopefully it is as good as some of Youtube reviews.

  • I am not sure whether I should get this or wait for Nexus 7 to drop the prices…

  • Will it be upgradable to Android 4.2… ?

    • It has a very good CPU and enough RAM and Ainol usually is very fast at releasing official OSs. So, as an educated guess, I'll say yes.

  • My order still shows as Processing and I've not received a tracking ID yet so I guess they might have had a flood of buyers. As long as it gets here before X'mas…

    • Yup, they indeed ran out of stock. I got email from them saying they expect new stock this week and will email me when it ships.

    • Same here. Mine still shows processing as well. I wonder how long it's gonna take…

  • Black one is sold out, white one is still available.

  • Got mine this morning (great service) and have had a bit of a play with it.

I've had a Nexus 7 since it was release but I bought this one to see how it would go hooked up to the projector for presentations rather than carting the laptop about (incidentally, it goes quite well. Screen comes up a bit smaller but the projector has a button to sort that out). But I thought I'd mention a few differences so people can maybe decide if it's worth paying more for the Nexus 7 or whether the cheaper alternative would do them.

Things that make it not as good as a Nexus 7.

The touch screen isn't as accurate. It's not a big thing but I have noticed I've missed a few times and hit the wrong button when things head towards the edges.

The screen resolution makes browsing some websites in landscape mode a little bit frustrating. It's only 600 high compared to the Nexus 7's 800. Portrait mode and mobile sites are fine though. Other than that it's a good picture on the screen.

It feels a bit heavier (although I've been tricked with bevelled edges and weight before).

It's Chinese so it's not the pure Google Android set up that you get with the NExus 7. There was no initial account set up that the Nexus 7 had, you had to go into settings and do that manually. I had to install Youtube and there a bunch of Chinese apps on there that I have no idea about and it doesn't want to let me uninstall.

It feels pretty solid but I feel less confident it would survive a drop or being thrown about in my bag without a cover. It's a pretty basic, functional plastic box in terms of design.

The haptic feedback is a little rough.

Then there's obviously the lack of bluetooth and GPS and I assume battery life.

All round I reckon it's great value.

    Hi guys,

MP4nation has written to me that the Crystal won't be available for 2 weeks at least due to huge demand on the production so they are asking if I would like to substitute an Elf II with 16GB, or a Cube U23GT with 16GB and 8" LED display and 1024x768, with no additional payment, or just wait.

That Cube 8" 1024x768 is tempting, I can use the extra height in landscape. But what's the battery life like?

I suppose updated rooted ROMs (Jellybean?) are available for both the Elf II and U23GT? I also don't mind waiting.

    Thanks for any comments.

    • +3

You definitely won't want the Elf II, its supposed to be superseded now and a while ago it was on clearance for $99 from Ainol-Store. Besides, why would you get the lower end Elf 2 when there's a much better choice being offered? RK3066 processor is much faster.

I Looked around abit and found this review by a fellow Mp4nation customer
      http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/f54/cube-u23gt-review-19569/

As it looks don't have such high hopes for the screen as it's not IPS, and the battery is stated to be 4~5 hours. My more expensive Cube U30GT goes for 6.5 hours on Wifi, so that's very acceptable for a tablet of that size and price.

If you only paid $105ish for this Cube tablet, then you're already saving $20-30 off the usual RRP price.

    • I just got that email too. Still thinking if I should just wait for Crystal or get the Cube U23GT.
Is there any Jelly Bean ROM for U23GT? I tried looking around but can't find anything.

      • I decided to wait for the Crystal since I was after a 7 inch tablet. Cube U23GT is bigger and heavier than the Crystal. Hopefully I'll get it by the end of the month. Thanks guys

    • Got similar email. Opted for Cube U23GT.

    • +1

Hmmm, I haven't actually seen the U23GT in real life, but I have a Cube U30GT which has the same CPU, GPU, RAM and battery and couldn't be happier. The battery goes for around 8-9 hours on mine, so I assume it would be even better on a smaller screen (mine is 10.1"). I would say read a few reviews to see if there are any big issues with it and grab it.

      • Just checked the Cube website and no official JellyBean yet, I am afraid.

    • Thanks guys, U23GT here I come.

  • Comparing pictures of the U23GT to other tablets on the mp4nation website, the screen ratio appears to be 4:3, whereas the other tablets are closer to 16:9?

    • Yes, it's 1024x768 vs 1024x600. You don't have to use the extra pixels when watching 16:9. :)

<b> For those waiting for the Ainol Crystal: </b>

    1. All retailers from China shipping O/S are experiencing systematic postage issues (http://ainolstore.com/forums/topic/973-ainol-store-apology-f…)(http://ainolstore.com/forums/topic/972-compensation-plan-for…)

"Packages contain batteries are extremely hard to ship at this time.

China is differnt, especially in special moments, and now is one of those moments. China is holding the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, during which time the Custom is extremely strict with its packages, especially on battery related products.

    1) the Custom is still very strict with batteries 2) the situation won't change until the end of the Congress meeting."

"1. Generally speaking, the shipment of China Post and Hong Kong Post is airmail which will not allow the lithium battery and liquid. The courier has their channel to solve the problem in the normal days. But due to the 18th CPC National Congress, the packages we sent via China Post and Hong Kong Post have been badly delay. Even some parcels which were sent in Sep also has been returned or hold by Post office for security inspection. I think Ainol store is not the only over seas supplier which effects by the congress. But it's definitly our negligence that we did not take this issue into consideration.

Another reason of the strict custom inspection of lithium battery was due to the fire on Xiamen airport. This fire was caused by the lithium battery on the flight. Thanks godness, there was no anyone hurt in this accident. We did not mention this issue to our customers as we thought it was not the excuse. But we finanlly reliase, the customers have the rights to know everything they concern."

    1. MP4Nation cannot send android tablets during this time (http://www.facebook.com/mp4nation)

"Bad news - We can't send Android Tablets through Fedex at the moment, no more free Fedex tablet deals.

Good news - We are working with Fedex with being able to send Android Tablets through them again.

    Stay tuned for more information."

  • Got a note from MP4nation saying that they hope to ship my Cube (by airmail) within 24 hours, but that's what they said last Thursday so I'll believe it when I get a tracking number.

    • I wish you the best of luck.

    • Ok, I've got a tracking code for ezyparcels HK now. So fingers crossed it will arrive late this week or next week.
