  • For those wondering, Restaurant Choice variable load cards were included last time this deal was on.

    • +11

Just to avoid confusion, the Restaurant Choice variable load is excluded for this deal.

      excluding Restaurant Choice Variable Card.

      • Thanks for highlighting this so that people don't accidentally buy the wrong Restaurant Choice gift card… myself included.

      • anyone know the denominations stocked by Woolies? leftover scrap change on these cards can sometimes be painful to use so the bigger the denomination the better.

        • +1

I'm still yet to find the best way to use up leftover balances.

          • @wildstone: I found a local cafe that is very forgiving of splitting the bill however many ways I need with whatever amounts.

          • @wildstone: macdonalds - pay some cash - then balance the rest

            • @blehgg: wow, didn't realise Maccas allow split payment…so, you have to do cash first and then the card? Or doesn't it matter which order?

            • @blehgg: I tried once asking to split payment but was told that they don't do that.

              • @wildstone: I did it in Brisbane 2 weeks ago. had $1.80 left. Item was $3.80

Told them I had some cash, can I use that first and pay the rest of card?

                1. Paid $2 in cash first
                2. Then used the balance

order does matter cause they can't specify what to pay on card.

I think they are hesitant if its busy, but "two transactions":was the max based on reading forums

                • @blehgg: Thanks bleh. I was asking them if I could pay in 2 cards, which was when they said they don't do that.

May be if I told them I am going to pay $1.28 on a card, and the rest with cash, they might do it. I'll try that next time and report back.

          • @wildstone: Dome is the best in WA

          • @wildstone: Subway online ordering if you also have rewards dollars/gift cards in your account. Allows you to choose how much of them to use so that you can pay the rest with restaurant choice

        • I usually sweep to my subway card, $10 minimum tho, works fine if you eat there often :)

      • +2

It's very rare to find Restaurant Choice card that does not come in variable load in Sydney tho.

    • +1

But isn't 10% off better than 20x rewards points?

      • in one way yes, but you get the same value either way if you want to use the points to pay for groceries, otherwise some are converting to Qantas points….maybe saving to go towards an airfare

  • +1

It used to be the Restaurant Choice physical card could be used at very limited restaurants on their list but the digital card could be used at all these MCCs. Looks like they've made the physical card to match up with the digital card based on their website. Does anyone know when this change happened?

    • +1

      Most likely early January 2023.

Someone said on 11 January 2023 that they were able to use a physical Restaurant Choice gift card at a merchant not listed on the Restaurant Choice website.

To be clear, both comments I linked to were in reference to the older EFTPOS version of the physical Restaurant Choice gift cards, which is not the version pictured in this deal. I am fairly sure the newer Visa version of the physical Restaurant Choice gift cards have never been restricted to specific restaurants.

      • +1

Can the physical Restaurant Choice visa be added to Google Wallet?

        • +2

          Yes

          • @WookieMonster: With Visa so I assume it can be used to pay KFC in app orders.

            • +2

@Bii: It can as long as:

              • KFC uses a MCC permitted on this gift card.

              • KFC will let you use a prepaid Visa gift card as a payment method on their app. (KFC may not let you do this, because they may require a card to support security features not found on prepaid gift cards.)

              • +2

@WookieMonster: IIRC it works fine with the KFC app. KFC is too rich to even care about card fraud I guess.

            • +1

@Bii: Works with KFC but not with Maccas recently

              • @sub102: always depends upon individual store - my local maccas accepts rc

                • @tonester: Sorry I meant Maccas online/app. Can't even use coles MasterCard giftcard anymore

                  • @sub102: yes i’m talking about mymacca’s app as well - app order payment is via store

                    • @tonester: Yeah but you can't even add those cards as the payment method irrelevant of the store

                      • @sub102: no need to add rc into app - add to apple wallet, pay via apple pay :)

                        • @tonester: Tried that too but said not accepted at this store so may be that particular store didn't accept then. Did it work recently at your store?

  • Bugger. Need ultimate gc. Missed out on coles deal last week

  • Can the physical Restaurant Choice Visa card be added to Apple wallet? I tried and it’s not letting me? TIA.

    • Yes, I was able to (visa version)

    • Same, I added a visa version, variable load, 2 weeks ago.

for Luxury Escape, Costco sells the $500 card for $430 (14%).

    • Does Costco always have luxury escape gift card on sale at this price?

      • i believe so . they also have Accor hotel cards $200 for $170 (Au/nz/fiji)

    • +2

There's also this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829399 for those targeted by AMEX

    • Is there a limit to how many can be purchased?

      • nothing showing on the photo i took.

      • I bought 5 yesterday.

    • I am new to Luxury Escape. Can multiple cards be used? I need to use 3 x $500 = $1500 in gift card for 4 nights in Singapore (2 adult + 1 child with breakfast and late 2pm checkout). Travelling outside AU after more than 5 years. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

      • +3

I have never used Luxury Escapes gift cards before, but this conversation makes it sound like the redemption of multiple Luxury Escapes gift cards in one transaction is permitted.

        • +1

          Legend thanks.

          • +1

@io: Just wanted to confirm this - used 9 gift cards on the app totalling just under 5k - worked well. Was able to get all in one transaction at Woolworths.

            • @shima888: Excellent. Thank you so much for confirming. Enjoy your holiday.

  • Thanks, I tried again and it worked now. Wasn’t able to a few weeks ago.

  • +8

Unlucky the 15% and 20% days are gone.

    • yeah that was when RC sold their gift cards direct

  • @WookieMonster since you appear to be the SME
Any idea why I might not be able to add physical restaurant choice to my iPhone wallet?
Can add the same card to my wife’s iPhone wallet.
    Digitals are fine!
I don’t have more than 9 cards in my wallet at a time.
    I remove any archived cards.
I had sent a query to blackhawk network but the response is pretty much futile. They ask me to check with provider. And I don’t understand who really the provider is!

    • +4

How often do you add and remove cards from your Apple Pay wallet on your iPhone?

If it is relatively frequently, the reason could be that you are sometimes failing the fraud checks that Apple has implemented on Apple Pay. Apple is a little vague on what these checks entail, but you can get a sense for it on the Apple Pay privacy policy.

The Restaurant Choice website also hints at this on their FAQs:

How do I add my Restaurant Choice Gift Card to my mobile wallet?

Restaurant Gift Cards can be added to your Apple, Samsung, or Google mobile wallet.

Apple, Google, and Samsung Wallets have limits to the total number of cards a user can have in their wallet at any one time, and they also have their own security process that may stop a user from being able to add a card to their digital wallet. Restaurant Choice Visa Gift Cards has no discretion on these security controls put in place by Apple, Google, or Samsung Wallets.

Eftpos Restaurant Choice physical cards cannot be added to wallet.

The workaround (as you have found out) is to use another device (e.g. your wife's device). I am going to assume your wife does not add/remove cards from her Apple Pay wallet as frequently as you?

      • +1

        Thanks@WookieMonster for your response.
Yes that’s right. I recycle cards and add/remove frequently to/from my wallet. My wife not as much.
Looks like there is no sure way to find out what logic Apple uses to block :)

        • +1

          Knew it!

It is the reason I still have an old Samsung phone in addition to an iPhone. I find that Samsung Wallet is very lax (compared to Apple Pay) when it comes to fraud controls… plus I have a device I could fall back on if I accidentally trip the Apple Pay fraud controls.

  • What's the difference between the different restaurant gift cards, which ones are the best?

  • Anyone know if these will have a purchase limit? And will they have limited stock?

  • great

  • Has anyone tried buying GCs and paying with the everyday rewards pay app? E.g connecting gift cards to the app and then using it at checkout?

    • I have bought many gift cards issued by Woolworths Group, stored them in my Everyday Rewards app and then successfully used Everyday Pay as a payment method every time, except for when I have tried to purchase a gift card.

      • I once tried to purchase a gift card at Woolworths using Everyday Pay as the payment method, and the checkout returned an Items Not Allowed error.

      • I once tried to purchase a gift card at BIG W using Everyday Pay as the payment method, and the checkout became unresponsive for about 3 minutes before a staff member had to forcibly shut down the checkout.

The Everyday Pay FAQs makes it clear that you cannot purchase gift cards nor tobacco using Everyday Pay, so it is hardly surprising I ran into issues attempting to do this.

  • +2

Does anyone use the luxury escapes? How does it work if you have 10 gift cards? Can you add to a balance like apple or Amazon?

  • When clarifying with staff, they said the gift card offer is only applicable to Woolworths supermarkets, not Woolworths Metro stores. Woolworths Metro stores did not have signs displaying 10% off selected gift cards with everyday rewards.

  • Anyone know if the non-visa restaurant choice GC can be used at same merchants as visa ones?
It's showing 900+ merchants with 3 yr expiry on the packaging whereas the visa ones is 25000+ merchants with 5 yr expiry.

  • OOS at WW Kirrawee, Engadine.

  • Has anybody had problems getting Macca's to accept the EFTPOS Restaurant Choice? I tried this morning and it would only return "swipe error"

    • From comments above, look like no longer accepted by Macca's app. Restaurant Choice and Good Food were usable before.

      • Wasn't via app - I used a card with zero balance with the app to place the order. (if you do this the order goes through but you pay at the window as normal)

It was the card reader at the window that wouldn't take the EFTPOS card

      • Can use Resturant Choice via the mobile app to pay for a Maccas order. Did it successfully just yesterday.
