  • Nexus 4 already having an effect.

    • Agree, Nexus 4 is the top choice for value right now.

    • Nexus 4 is a LG phone, I wonder what built quality will be like so reserving my excitement until its release.

      • +1

LG Hardware is fine, it's their Android skin and lack of updates that sucks.

    • No 4G with Nexus 4 is a huge downer!

  • Would buy this if it wasn't Optus branded, but good price

    • +1

Very easy to flash this phone to generic firmware. OPtus version is good, bootloader is unlockable, unlike Vodafone version.

      • Thanks, didn't know that. I am a bit noob when it comes to flashing, but will this get updates directly through Sony or will the updates come via Optus.

        • +1

Once you flash generic firmware you can update direct from Sony the official way. You can get advice on how to flash in the forums here, on XDA, or whirlpool. It's very easy and low risk.

        • If anyone can post such a link that would be greatly appreciated

      • +1

I concur . Bootloader is unlocked and I'm currently running the Du@lcore custom rom . My Optus model came without the HDMI cable though . The Vodaphone one we have came with locked Bootloader and locked sim but the sim lock was free to unlock over the net . The Bootloader is totally unlockable on the Voda handset but it did come with a HDMI cable .
FYI this is a proper Quad band phone and works great on all networks apart from 4G .

  • it really meant all these phones they couldve sold for much less if it wasnt for competition(duhhh)

    • Considering that OEM tablets can be had for ~$150 with the exact same specs/parts, if not more powerful, it goes to show how much profit phones can make.

Still it's quite reasonably priced great phone, I use this for business and it hasn't let me down.

      • +2

Except phones are considerably smaller. So it makes sense the 'same components' in a smaller device would be more expensive.

    • Why would you sell for less if you don't need to? Companies aren't charities… If you want to live in a capitalist society, you have to rely on competition to bring down prices.

  • +1

gonna get the nexus 4 when it comes out , great specs for the price ($400 for the 16GB version), only drawback is the lack of micro sd expansion.

    • +1

      And LTE support.

  • +1

Why does every tablet/phone deal have to have comments about the nexus 4. I know its great to have such low prices on future phones, but its not necessary. Stop mentioning it in other deals!

    • +3

Its mentioned because we want to pressure on the rep to lower their prices. This is Ozbargains after all.

Frankly, a rep posted this and they need to made aware that their product is no longer competitive.

  • android 2.3 wish they upgrade to
at least ICS on this good price for this phone

    • This software updates to ICS no problem.

      • Too bad that ICS is 2 steps behind by now.

      • OTA ICS has been out for some time and Jellybean has been promised for 1st quarter 2013 .

I have this phone, I really love it.

It's hard to ignore the Nexus 4 right now I agree. But the Xperia S does have 32 GB storage, 12 megapixel camera, and more pixels per inch in the display. It would be suited to people who think 4.7' screen is too big, 4.3' is about right for me.

    • +1

I love the specs on the Xperia S, but honestly can't get past that design..How does it feel in the hand compared to say, the htc one s?

      • I've never held a One S, but I like the feel of this phone. I use the Nillkin Shield case, which adds hardly any size to the device, and makes it feel much more secure with the grip
        http://www.obostore.com/nillkin-ultra-slim-hard-shield-facep…

      • Not as nice . The polycarbonate shells that HTC use are streets ahead of the rest IMHO . I use a case so the feel is a bit of a mute point The Xperia S has sharp corners and feels a bit bigger than what the specs suggest .

        • Don't know why but the SXS feels a lot heavier and a lot more solid than any other phone I've held. It's not big, but just solid, like a brick, while other phones feel plasticy.

I'd have jumped on this if I hadn't bought one two weeks ago for ~$35 more than this price, and if Nexus 4 wasn't about to come out.

As mentioned though, if you want a high pixel density 4.3" screen and a good camera then the SXS is the go.
And for the budget sensitive this is $100 less than the new Nexus 4 16GB.

    • +1

Xperia S has the highest pixel density of any device ever made, 342ppi, tied with HTC Rezound which was released exclusively for Verizon in the US. It's also got the best camera. You can snap a picture from stand by in 1.5 secs, so if there's fast moving scenery, like nature for example, you don't need to unlock your phone, go into camera mode and then snap, losing what you were trying to shoot in the first place.

This is $100 cheaper than the LG Nexus 4 32GB, so I'd say it still has a market in spite of the what's on the way.

  • REP how much optus bloatware is there? Does it flash the optus logo when you turn the phone on?

  • Super tempted by this, but it's only 12 more sleeps until the Nexus 4 is released - and while this phone looks a'ight, the N4 looks like the biznatch, yo.

(Yes, it's a hunjie extra for roughly the same spec, but compare that to the type of prices that the iCult pays for new stuff… plus, do you really think I'ma buy it on Day 1? Give it 8 weeks and the Nexus 4 will be two-fiddy dallah and iCult members will have to crank that much harder to get through their cognitive dissonance).

And MS can stick its Surface up its cloaca - them and Apple gots the same pointless CGI/StrictlyComeDancing information-free TV ads that are an insult to anybody who actually wants to know stuff about the device.

    • Instead of dropping in price, it's already set at a low price. It's going to be a while until it drops to $250.

  • +2

That is a lot of phone for the price.
Camera is really nice (already have one btw).
Little disappointed re the lack of SD slot but 32GB should be good enough.
    I just bought another one.
Shipped price to Adelaide = $311.80 (incl GST)

  • Sorry im off topic - Does anyone have overheating issues? Mines a week old and gets really hot.. No problem with performance or display just the phone gets really hot..

  • Has anyone received a delivery notification? They say on their website they post orders within 1-2 days of cleared payment. My payment cleared on Wednesday.

    • I received the phone almost immediately. I can't fault the timing and I (naturally) selected the cheapest delivery option.

      • So when did you order and when did you receive it? I doubt you ordered on Thursday and received it on Friday by standard post.

        • Ordered on the 1st and received yesterday (2nd). It doesn't get better than that IMO. I am in Adelaide btw.
