I love the look of this keyboard!

Luckily I'm happy enough with my current one, so I can't really justify it…

    • I'm in the same situation - I really want to like it enough to buy it but I simply can't justify the purchase. That, plus the extra $15 delivery on top kinda put me off…

Nice deal and very tempted, but the 2 main dealbreakers for me are the lack of RGB and not much going on in terms of thock compared to other custom keyboards in the same price range

    • +9

Honesty what’s the use of rgb on a keyboard, it’s a distraction more than anything. In the case i can understand

      • +6

        There isn't even a backlight on this…

I wouldn't mind if its just a white backlight

      • +1

        Backlit with matching colour.

    • +3

What part of this off the shelf keyboard is a "custom keyboard"?

    • -2

not much going on in terms of thock compared to other custom keyboards in the same price range

What even is this comment lmfao

      • +2

thock is the term used for the sound dampening on the keyboard switch. BUT that comment made no sense because this keyboard uses Kailh Box Switch V2 White which is a clicky switch with no sound dampening

        • +1

Well yeah that's the point right, and custom keyboards are, well, custom. Which means that thock is only thock if the owner picks thock. Complaining about an inherent characteristic of a product just seems so silly to me..

          • +3

@doobey1231: Probably someone that just learns all these terms but doesn't know how its actually being used lel.

  • Gorgeous design but you need to keep in mind that the housing is a bit clunky in terms of noise absorption so a bit of tweak necessary. If you can't feel chocky with this, most of the problem comes from noise absorption.

  • For you who have it/seen/heard it, HOW clicky is it?
Is it "Stabbed by wife during late night gaming sesh" or?

    • +1

      yes it is clicky

    • +1

yes, it's clicky given they're box white switches, but you can always swap out the switches for quieter ones if you want.

    • +2

Box white is clicky but somehow softer than the regular blues…

Its more like a clicky brown.

I have brought a Kailh Black, Gateron Brown and Kailh Box White to work and somehow my colleagues prefer the Kailh Box White.

    No numeric keypad 😔

    • +3

Would 100% buy if it was a full board.

    • Wish there was a full sized keyboard that has backlit keys and a volume knob. It's surprisingly difficult to find…

      • I highly recommend the Roccat Vulcan keyboards. If you shop around you can usually score a good deal. I've owned both the original Aimo and the Pro, and I much prefer the Pro with its optical switches.

      • Keychron boards? The V6 is an option.

100% boards with knobs aren't the most common but they are definitely out there.

These retro mechanical keyboards are hurting my wallet. After recently picking up the Lofree Block 98…

    • +5

Love the look of that one. Where did you grab it from?

      • I'm working on getting a deal.

        • What do you mean getting a deal, are you negotiating? You can do that?

          • @sofasty: Anyone can ask a store for a deal. I'm just asking a store I'm associated with. The price may end up being too high so we'll see.

    • Ooh, that's a really nice looking keyboard. I like the dials!

I occasionally miss the num pad, but am pretty happy with my Vortex Race 3.

  • Are those 2 big red buttons?

    • +1

      The OG wireless transmitter 😜

      • They have B A on them 😂

  • Very tempted to get this but im still pretty happy with my wired mech keyboard

    • Yup. Still happy with my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate that I paid $99 for in 2019.

  • +3

I got this for Christmas as I wanted to switch to a wireless keyboard. My previous (wired) das keyboard was/is using cherry brown switches, and if I'm honest I probably prefer that one. Although I'm really comparing the whole keyboard (not to mention that I've used it for many years), so maybe other aspects are influencing me as well.

Anyway, while I was worried about how clicky these ones would be, it hasn't bothered me at all and I quite like the keyboard.

    • +1

Pretty sure this is hot swappable so you could put Cherry Brown switches in.

      • Yeah maybe, but I'm quite happy with it and the noise wasn't an issue so I don't feel the need to change them. I was just comparing with my old one for anyone interested.

  • Price is now $169

    • The other colour scheme is still available for $139

  • I'm crushed I missed this one. Been waiting for a semi-decent discount on this keyboard.

  • Amazon has it for $161.95

  • If you're having issues with the volume dial not working here's a speedrun.

I believe the design of it is a rotary switch and it misses inputs even if you hit notches on the dial no matter how fast or slow you turn it.

I have tested this keyboard on two Windows machines one, on Windows 11 with Wired and 2.4Ghz mode and the other on Windows 10 with just Bluetooth mode and they still have the same issue so I believe there is a defect the with volume knob detecting input.

Given I've tried 2 different keyboards and 2 different platforms albeit both with manufacture date as September 2023 which incidentally is the date of this product release, and I've been through support flashing multiple firmware versions, I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue. It was the small card in the box with Chinese on it with a YYYYMM number on it next to "Manufacture Date" in Chinese. Curious what yours says.

  • The Famicon colourway is still on sale: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/8bitdo-retro-wireless-mecha…

I actually prefer that colour to the standard "N Edition", and ended up ordering one :)

  • are these loud
