No love for the MBA 15 😭

  • some loves for ipad pro

    • +6

New model coming any day now.

      • Yeah, I'm waiting for the new iPad Pro to drop.

      • +3

I reckon it's coming in the next 2-3 days tbh

Cashrewards deal is only until tonight.

Apple Gift Card Promo is open only until 13/03/2024.

So I reckon iPad Pro 2024 edition, or at least the news, will be released 14/03/2024.

Savings of 160.00 + 8%, which lets just assume is another 160.00 from a minimum purchase of $2000

$320.00 off a previous years unit + pencil + Keyboard (which had a previoul ATL of $350.00 IIRC).

If you wanted to hedge your bets, we could just put the order in. Wait for Apple's release. If it's no good, keep the M2 iPad. If the M3 iPad is better, cancel or return our order :|.

  • Literally purchased from the edu store 2 hours ago when it was 5%. Has anyone successfully managed to request for an increased cashback post purchase?

    • +3

      Just cancel and order again

      • Yeah nah, order had changed to “preparing to ship”. Would’ve cancelled and re-ordered if it wasn’t the case.

        • Buy another one and return your order when it arrives…

  • +2

    +$240 gift card rebate!!

  • Will I still get the Apple Giftcard, if I use this link?
I'm planing to buy a Mac Mini ($160 Gift Card for this). Thank you!!

  • +5

    Sadly MacBook air excluded

  • Thank you, I was thinking about getting an iPad and this pushed me over the line!

  • Boo for exclusions.

That’s it for me. Was tossing up a new M3 MBA, but will hold out another year for the M4 - and hopefully 16gb RAM as well…

    • Exactly was getting 5% of gift card and was excited to buy M3 MBA

    • Did the MBA exclusion apply to the older M2 as well?

  • Last time was updated to include macs. Hopefully this also gets updated.

haha just purchased a MacBook pro. Forgot about cashback 😂

    • Cancel and do new order

    • same…. and mine just went to preparing to ship so cannot cancel and re order :(

      • I placed my order in-store today, picked it up, and came home to find this deal. Since I've already set everything up I can't be bothered to go back to the store to return it and purchase another one 🤪

        • +1

          Worth it for 8% cashback

      • Buy another and just return your first order

        • +1

That won't work, they check the serial numbers. Need to return the one you received.

          • +2

@dangerdanger: Yeah. I’m saying to buy another one with cash back and just return the original (first order) when it arrives..

  • +1

I'm looking to buy an iPhone and Apple Watch. Does anyone know if these track at 8% if I click through the EDU store and checkout that way?

    • Edu store doesn’t sell those

      • I mean I can go to the EDU page, and browse to iPhone and it maintains the banner at the top of the page saying Education Store.

I'm not in a rush though. I'll wait until the main Apple store has 8% cashback to purchase.

        • No, that won’t work.

          • +1

@snvl: Why not? In terms and conditions it just states no more than 2 iPhones within 30 days…. Also not stated in the exclusions?

            • @fozzie:

I mean I can go to the EDU page, and browse to iPhone and it maintains the banner at the top of the page saying Education Store.

              This won’t work

              • @snvl: I disagree. I think it will work. You just won't get any EDU discount. You'll still get the cashback.

    • Have the same question. Can anyone confirm?

      • +1

According to t&c iPhones are included. I am fairly confident they are. Take screenshots about t&c

  • so do you actually get 8% back on eligible items?

    • Before gst.

  • Is this cashback only valid until end of today? (11th march)

    • +1

That's what the Cashback Reward Promo says unfortunately.

  • +2

THAT'S CRAZY! I have been waiting till last minute to decide to get the 16 MacBook Pro. I basically got it RRP $4300 down to $3394 (less cause I just did quick maths and with gst price and also including deducting the $240 gift card from price). That is absolutely crazy!!! Best time ever to have upgraded from my old MacBook! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    • Which one did you get? M3 pro 16gb 1tb?

      • +1

Just base m3 pro. That is more than enough for me as a student. I had a monitor but sold it and upgraded my 14 M1 Pro to this with the bigger screen. The base 16 comes with 18GB of memory which is absolutely insane!! And 512gb base storage

        • What are you doing with your 14 M1 Pro?

          • @Waxhedd: Studying and and all round entertainment device. So it’s my desktop (sold monitor, mouse and keyboard to fund this), tv, and laptop. I just really appreciate the screen. Like compared to my monitor nothing comes close to 120hz promotion or the mini led xdr display. And found without a monitor my 14 was cramped. This is 100% overkill but I just love my MacBook. Also I didn’t want a MacBook Air 15. Also did you get it, since the Cashback is now over?

            • @v7dal: You thinking of getting applecare+ as well whilst it's 20% off?

              • +1

@GJT: Yeah I am. Definitely. Can always get a prorated refund if needed or transfer it to another new Mac. For me the yearly cost is easily worth it. Waiting for complimentary AppleCare to finish then adding it at 20% off.

Fun fact I sold my other MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro because I was scared to take it out and use it properly cause it didn’t have AppleCare . I would def recommend esp at 20%. Works out to $170 per year for a computer worth $4300

                • +1

@v7dal: Yeah. Funny enough my coverage was supposed to expire on the 19th. It's still showing as active for me and won't let me buy the new one lol

                  • +1

@GJT: Wow! Mine is showing March 27th and I purchased on 11th March. I was assured instore that once that’s over they’ll be able to do it. I’m just cradling and holding on till that date

                    • @v7dal: Do you know if we can buy it online or is it in-store/phone only for the discounted price?

                      • +1

@GJT: I spoke to online and they said instore. I went instore and they said the discount is attached to your serial number. Then I’ve heard that the 20% only lasts till 10 days after promo (23rd march). So I’ve heard a few things but just have to wait for it to allow me to purchase. I have documentation showing I’ve tried fixing this and I know the guy who I spoke to in Apple who assured me. Cause as it is my complimentary AppleCare is well over 7 days which is their fault not mine

                        • @v7dal: True, I'll let you know how mine go. I plan on calling before going instore if required.

                          • @GJT: Sweet please do! I will do so as well!

                            • @v7dal: So mine expired yesterday. I tried buying AppleCare+ directly through my device, and it showed the non-discounted $449 price. I called Apple, and they were only able to give me the normal student discount over the phone, which makes it $399. I explained how I made the purchase during the promo period and also went on to explain how, because of the deferred sales rules in AUS, I couldn't purchase AppleCare+ straight away. The rep was from the USA, so he set me up with a callback from a supposedly AUS AppleCare+ rep. The rep called me back at the scheduled time but was clueless as well about the 20% off promo. I was told the best course of action would be to return to the Apple store so I could make the purchase at the discounted price.

I went into the store today and said I was here to make the AppleCare+ purchase. The person who assisted me told me that since the promo period is over, I could only make the purchase now at $399. Since I had a screenshot of the promo page, I showed her the deal terms and conditions which specifically list "To accommodate Australia’s deferred sales rules, the promotional Apple Education Pricing for AppleCare+ will be available for eligible products purchased during the promotional period for 10 days after the promotional period ends." She also saw my point of view and then went on to get in touch with her manager. Later on, she came back and informed me that since she can't edit the price from the system, they will bill me for $399 (Normal student discounted price) but put that I paid by $40 cash and the rest on my own payment method. This way, they were able to match the discounted price for me.

Overall, it's a long and lengthy process. If you have your student card and think it's worth the extra $40 hassle, go in-store to get your discount. Otherwise, ring them up, and you can get the $399 student discounted AppleCare+.

                              • @GJT: Wow thanks heaps! I knew this would be the case. And yes I will do so. Unfortunately mine expires well over the 10 days (purchased online 11th March and it expires 27th March!) so I will go to them tomorrow to make sure they know. It’s really unfortunate but I have all the evidence. I send you a pm asking for the promo terms screenshot please so I can do so myself! Thanks so much though for the update!

          • @Waxhedd: I sold it it to fund this mbp 16

  • +1

I would have got MBA but alas

  • What shipping service will Apple use for a CTO MacBook Pro 16 or CTO MacBook Pro 14? Do they leave it at the door if no one is home, take it to the post office, or a different delivery services collection points? I might be away when it arrives and want my fiance to be able to pickup missed delivery using their ID with the same address listed as the delivery address.

    • +1

You pick up from local post office.

    • -1

      FedEx/TNT/DHL

      Usually FedEx/TNT

  • +3

Shame MacBook Air isn’t included. It does make me feel less salty though lol, as I bought 15” air with 512gb/16 during last Black Friday. I got $150 Cashrewards, $320 gift card. Also claimed gst back when I travelled and I used discounted Apple gift cards. If you don't need a device in a rush you can plan the purchase (like I did) and save lots.

  • Does the CB work on the Apple University store anyone knows?

  • Up late trying to decide between MBP 14 with 16g ram or MBA 13 with 16 ram. 250 difference.

    • MBA13 is excluded.

      • Yeah I know, factoring that in. Could also go the m3 pro with the pro chip. I’

        • MBP 14 with the m3 pro seems to be the sweet spot.

          • @GJT: Yeah it looks like best value and future proofing. I’ll be travelling in the next 60 days too. Unfortunately it doesn’t come in space grey, by far my preferred colour I think

            • @Jigram: Yeah you'll have to settle for black. TBH it's not that bad of a colour choice. Given the current deals I think you won't regret it.

              • @GJT: I’m going to do it and return if I change my mind :) that way can lock in the cashback. You reckon M3 pro better than normal m3 and just upgrading to 16gb?

                • @Jigram: For me my main requirement was getting a base model with 16GB ram. After researching online it seems because of memory bandwidth limitations etc M2 PRO is what hits the gold spot for value given the current prices. M3 pro is what seems to be the current gen recommendation. So for me given the price difference M3 pro was a no brainer. For you I think the the cashback will sweeten the deal further for the M3 pro. Plus like you said if it doesn't work out you can always return it at Apple without any hassles

                  • +1

                    @GJT: How's this for OZB?
                    - Edu store
                    - 8% cashback
                    - 10% GST back (travelling shortly)
                    - $240 gift card
                    - tax decuctible (I run a business)

I do wonder if I've overkilled it. An MBA 16/512 m3 may suit me just fine.

            • @Jigram: Silver is undoubtedly the best. Timeless and doesn’t have colour coating over it so when it gets scratched/wears, it doesn’t look crap

              • @evasive: What do you think of space grey? Does it fair better (fingerprints, scratches) than midnight?

                • @Worf: I would say space grey = midnight on the M3 pro.

The midnight will have a bit more fingerprints but both have the better anodized coating

Silver = king for wear though.

If you were to cut through space grey or midnight you find it’s silver under the coating, which is what happens to the borders of the USB-c ports over time.

Whereas silver is just silver the whole way through and is the best in terms of fingerprints and scratches by far.

        • +1

MBP 14 with m3 pro is my pick. More ram also. Better thermals etc

          • @evasive: That's what I got. A bit worried about my colour choice now though haha

I do wonder if I've overkilled it. An MBA 16/512 m3 may suit me just fine.

            • @Jigram: You’ll be fine, they’re all great!

Specs wise, I definitely don’t need the power of the M3 pro either, but the screen is just so much better than the air that’s it’s worth it imo.

              • @evasive: Oh I thought the screens were the same!

                • @Jigram: Most certainly not. The airs screens are far more inferior to the 14” pro’s. 14” pro has proper HDR, way brighter, mini LED, 120hz, etc

                  • @evasive: I'm going from a 2017 i5 pro to this (a computer that has served me so well it's actually sentimental to me). It's going to absolutely shred by comparison hey?

                    • @Jigram: Yep. Massive difference. Even an old M1 air would shred your i5 pro.

                      • @evasive: Arrived today! A beast but quite the chunky monkey! I might return and get MBA 16gig

                        • @Jigram: There is a bit of a shortage of stock of the 16gb. Mine just shipped last night after ordering Friday.

You can get a shorter shipping time by customising the middle tier to a higher spec, rather than just buying the highest spec.

                          • @AaronR: What’s the use case for yours?

                            • @Jigram: Pretty light duties for this one. General “office work” kind of things. A little bit of music production if I ever get free time.

  • Seems that the 5% deal is still one. Bummer I missed out on 8%. Though will still take it.

  • Anyone who bought yesterday got their order tracked yet?

    • +1

@aveeno bb I am still waiting for this - I think it can take a few days from past experience. Did you receive yours?

      • +1

Not yet. My order is sitting at the pick-up point, and I will pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully it will get tracked soon, to avoid the hassle of having lodge the investigation.

        • My order just got shipped today - so i imagine it’ll come through in the next few days

          • @rrvd: I just got an email confirming the order tracking. Item price - gift voucher value - gst * 8%.

    • Mine tracked after the invoice was issued (after pickup)
