Apple Education Store: 8% Cashback (Online Only, Uncapped, Was 5.5%, 12 PM - 6 PM AEDT) @ Cashrewards

720

Cheers to ISP for the title and OP formatting

Exclusions updated to include Macs!! Of course the highlight here is the ability to:

Stack with purchasing an Eligible Mac/iPad for Students/Staff of Australian Universities and receive a $120-$240 Apple Gift Card

Brodens can stack with saved up 20x points/10% off Gift Cards from ColesWorth for even greater discounts! (remember - Apple allows a maximum of 8 Apple Gift Cards per transaction. You can bypass this by adding the Gift Card to your Apple Account Balance instead. From mine as well as plenty of other OzBargainers' experiences from other posts, cashback will still track if the payment method consists of the Apple Account Balance either fully or partially).

Current Gift Card Promotions (to stack):

  1. 20x Everyday Rewards Points on Apple Gift Cards @ Woolworths (equivalent to 10% off)

Promotion Details

Promotion: 8% Cashback at Apple Education Store (Was 5.5%) @ Cashrewards

Promotion date: Thursday, 11th January, between 12pm - 6pm AEDT

Question about the eligible Cashback value.. when I add an iMac to the cart, the iMac shows up as $2599 with a -$240 as part of special offer. Then, there is a $240 gift card added as part of the current promotion.

Since gift card is in the exclusion list, what is the cashback calculated in this case? The exGST price of $2599 or $2359?

    • I bought a Mac last week and received 2 seperate invoices.

1 for the Mac with a line item for “redeemed coupon” which is the value of the student discount.
      1 for the gift card.

The Mac invoice does not explicitly state anything about the gift card but the price of the Mac shown is less the student discount AND gift card.

  • Vision Pro excluded, haha! I've been trying to find a way to get one at all, much less with Cashback.

    • Why? Just out of interest

      • I'm an author and I work in film & TV - the storytelling potential for spatial can't be understated. I need a couple of headsets ASAP.

        • Seems pointless if you're the only one able to view the content.

        • At risk of sounding like a dinosaur, what does the vision pro do?

          • @Worf: It's a spatial reality headset - V.R., M.R., X.R. combined into spatial computing. There are plenty of other headsets on the market, but Apple's design is the first with viable potential for ubiquity; it is human centred.

By 2027 V.R. will have its moment, by 2030 smartphones will start switching to smart glasses, by 2035 spatial technology will be ubiquitous.

      • +3

because they are the first ever company to make a vr headset /s

    • I thought it was US only based off Apple's marketing email the other day for it? Would they even work here if you managed to get one from the US imported?

    • Not even released for Australia

  • Better off to buy apple giftcards at woolworths with the current promotion as it equates to 10% off

    • +11

And then use those gift cards to stack with this.

  • Thanks OP - just cancelled a $7729 order from yesterday so I can get an extra 3% cashback (compared to Shopback).

Edit: Oh poo, I hope the gift cards used are refunded in time. Eek.

    • +1

Let us know what happens there

      • Looks like the giftcards are active again now. Luckily that didn't take too long!

        • Awesome, how long did it take for the refund to show up?

          • @Astatine: I just received my gc back, took about 5 hours

            • @grunkun: @grunkun thanks! Same here, I just checked again and have received the refund in ~5 hours

        • Did the same as you and have the same question as above

    • I did something similar last year, took more than a day for the gift card balance to appear in my account :(

      • Was it refunded to the original gift card or they sent a new gift card?

        • Gift card was refunded to account balance

          • @ringofan: I wonder what happens if you used a guest account to checkout…

            • @Coxy777: Probably will go back onto the giftcards. That's what happened to me as my Apple account balance is already at the maximum.

              • @YoungLions: Thanks for the info. So original gift card codes are reused?

                • @Coxy777: Yup, same numbers as before. It looks like all were refunded completely apart from one, which is showing as $260 instead of $500. I'm guessing it's a hold against the $240 gift card they were planning to include with the original order. Just on the phone to support to try to get the full value back on that card.

                  • @YoungLions: @YoungLions how long did you had to wait to get the refund back on gift card?

                    • @Astatine: I ordered a BTO MBP M3 Max with Shopback’s 8% cashback 2 days ago using a combo of gift cards and credit card as payment. The gift card component I used 4 x gift cards. I just went to check the balances of the used gift cards and all but one of the gift cards have their full balance. The one that didn’t have its full balance had $240 deducted (which I think is for the $240 bonus Apple GC).

My point is, they may not deduct the used GCs’ balances before the order is shipped like what they would do with credit cards.

                      • @FrugalNotStingy: @FrugalNotStingy Yes true, based on my conversation with Apple support team they only block the balance on gift card until the device is shipped. In case of cancellation, they release the block within 24 hours.

                        • @Astatine: I got emailed a new gift card

                        • @Astatine: I have just proceeded to cancel my Shopback order and reorder with CW (because I wanted to up the storage to 4TB). I had no problem reusing the gift cards that I used for the Shopback order after a few moments and the order went through. However, there is still $240 missing from one of the gift cards. I will wait for a few days and see if they will refund back to the gift card or email me a new GC. if not then I’ll give them a call.

                          • @FrugalNotStingy: Exact same thing here. Talked to support and they said it might take a couple of days.

                            • @YoungLions: The thing is, if you go to your Apple account and view the cancelled order, it says “ This item was cancelled on 11 January and you have not been billed for it.” and there is no invoice to download. Therefore, may need to chase them up but knowing it’s Apple, it should be easy to deal with.

                            • @YoungLions: I just checked and Apple has refunded the $240 to the gift card.

    • I wanted to do the same with my order but am worried about the time it will take for the gift cards to be refunded.

Can I buy from my son who is in year 7? Do they verify if student is over 18?

    • they don't verify

      • I thought education started verifying again post covid? Isnt the AOC the one who doesnt?

    • All good Puru. From my experience, it'll be ok

  • Would cashback be eligible for pick up orders, after nominating someone else as a pick up person?

    • +1

Given that the text is highlighted in bold in T&C that cashback will be tracked once product has been shipped, I wouldnt take the risk of pickup, just in case thats not counted.

      • Good pick-up, thanks! Kinda sucks that delivery time is 3 weeks even though it's currently available for pick up right now at a store 5 mins drive from me

        • I've just emailed their support asking the question but the auto-response I got back said that they may take up to 5 business days to get back to me so I'm not holding my breath. I have a suspicion that it would work with pickup as my understanding from the "tracked once product is shipped" really means once the sale is finaled and the item has left the store/warehouse.

My source for this is that I made it up

          • @Wizard of Loneliness: I'm sure it will work but i dont trust apple nor the vague and unclear T&C. I just decided to pay extra $15 for express delivery

            • +2

@igoforthebest: I think I might go for it and report back to see if it does get tracked - at least then we know

              • @Wizard of Loneliness: Yeah, it's unclear, but I have decided to go with delivery with ETA on 2/2. I think it would have been OK given some orders get 'shipped' to the Apple store as well, which in my case when I upgrade the charger requires 2 weeks of delivery to the store, but at such a high order value I wanna play it safe!

Thanks, @Wizard of Loneliness for taking the risk for the community! Might be worth ordering any type of accessories that are eligible?

                • @SlushyDrop: Just ordered M2 MBA 13" with pickup - didn't need any accessories though so wasn't able to do that.
We'll see - as soon as I get the notification I'll reply to this comment. I'll set myself a remind 8 days from now (just to be safe) to give an update

                  • @Wizard of Loneliness: @Wizard of Loneliness Fingers crossed it gets tracked!

                  • @Wizard of Loneliness: We picked it up tonight from the Apple Store and approx 1 hour later, I have the confirmation email from Cashrewards saying they have tracked my purchase.

Weirdly it’s showing as a different value (I paid $1,650 and the email shows $1,280) essentially missing out on ~$30 cashback. I’ll follow it up with their team tomorrow.

NOTE: I purchased it through the Cashrewards app as that is what was recommended in OP

                    @SlushyDrop

                    • +2

@Wizard of Loneliness: Hi. Please note Apple reports sale amounts ex GST. Also, was there a free GC included in your purchase? If I recall correctly from previous promos, the value of the free GC is subtracted from the total and therefore excluded from cashback calculations. Cheers.

  • When I click through the shop now link, it goes to the regular Apple online one store, not the Education store. Will this still track with the increased cashback?

    • I would go to edu store it is a lot cheaper

    • +3

Always good to read the terms that I put effort into formatting:

Important note on Apple Education pricing:

      • For eligible members based on Apple's T&Cs, after clicking 'Shop Now' from Cashrewards, navigate via the Education link in Apple's footer menu before adding items to cart.

Or if that’s too hard simply click the massive banner on Apple's home page after you click Shop Now.

      • Good to know…but as this post is specifically for the Education Store only, it might be good to update the instructions to mention it in the promo details too rather than just in the special terms?

        Promotion Details
Link: Click on the deal link or go to: https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/apple —> Add "For eligible members based on Apple's T&Cs, after clicking 'Shop Now' from Cashrewards, navigate via the Education link in Apple's footer menu before adding items to cart."

Just a suggestion but thanks :)

  • which means Iphone 15 Plus will be fine right? but iPhone 15 plus is not on Apple Edu store, normal store should be fine?

    • Sure but this upsizing is only on the education store. The regular store will just continue to track at the lower rate of 1.3%.

    • I can see the 15 plus on the education store and also add to cart - are you sure you cant

  • +1

Bought a Mac middle of last year with account balance using the equivalent 8% Cashrewards cashback at the time.
Did everything right… Zero cashback, and Cashrewards couldn't give a crap.
They acknowledged the click through, I waited the 4 months (!) required, but they say Apple rejected it and cannot provide any reason or escalation, so better luck next time.
Just warning its definitely not a guaranteed discount!

    • if you email TA he usually sorts it out for you straight away

      • Does he still do that? I don’t see his presence on OzB as much as used to nowadays but I know he’s cool.

    • I had a cash rewards that didn't track in 2022 and I emailed them and had it sorted very quickly.

Is it possible to buy/renew Apple Care via the Edu store?

    • -1

Always good to read the terms that I took time into formatting.

Cashback is ineligible on the following:

      • AppleCare+

Besides, there would be no difference in price buying through the Edu store or not as it is an insurance product. Upon checking the Edu store, you can’t even find AppleCare+ so it looks like you can only do that through the regular store.

  • can I buy Apple Watch Ultra or iPhone 15 and get CB?

    • Sure but this upsizing is only on the education store. The regular store will just continue to track at the lower rate of 1.3%. Also note in the terms of my OP that I spent effort and time into formatting:

Cashback is ineligible on the following:

      • Updated 10/01/24: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Pro Display XDR, Vision Pro, Purchase of Gift Cards, Developer Programs, AppleCare+, Shipping.
      • ah.. gotcha
just thought we can still browse through to watch and iPhone section so might be 8% for them as well - all good!

        • you should be able to get the increased CB if you navigate to the education store to purchase the Apple watch Ultra and Iphone 15. It's the same price as the regular store, but as long as you checkout from the education store you should get the increase cashback. neither are listed in the exclusion list (Note Iphone 15 Only, the Pro or Pro max are ineligible)

  • IPhone 15 128gb is $1499 at apple education but $1389 only at Office works.

Looks like no discount for education on this phone.

    • I don't believe Apple classifies the iPhone as an education-related item. If I recall correctly, they have only ever included MacOS and iPadOS devices in their education store.

    • If you pay by discount gift cards, it'll be cheaper.

      • Need to buy with my 28 degree card so can claim price protection.

  • +12

Did a short pricing schedule with ongoing promotions if anyone needs OneDrive

    • Access is restricted.

      • Strange…I can view it in incognito mode

        try again?

        • Cheers, must’ve been an issue on my end with it opening in the app instead of the website.

    • Nice! Love the effort!

    • LEGEND

  • Bought a M3 Pro last week once I saw the back to school sale start 🙃

Not sure if worth returning, and then ordering again

  • Does anyone know if I buy accessories will the cashback still apply? They don’t say it’s excluded but education store and regular store don’t seem to seperate accessories.

  • Are the Apple Watches a part of this? Given they aren’t really an Edu item?

  • The cashrewards app is still showing 5.5%, but the splash screen when you click the link says 8%. 🤔

  • I'm getting a problem - 8% cashback
paying with my Apple account balance (loaded with gift cards from weeks ago)
    - it won't progress and is in an endless loop!

This is frustrating as I will be out of wifi / cellular reception soon!

Addit : So annoying, couldn't wait as I'll be offline soon.
I had to process with credit card. What a waste of all the $$ left on my apple account balance - which I could not use!! Have to save it for something else now.

    • I had that problem last year. Apple Support had no clue. From memory I ended up re-entering my address details using the iCloud settings on my phone. Something about that formatted it correctly. Since then I've been able to purchase via Apple.com.au using giftcards.

  • The link doesn't work. I get "The page you’re looking for can’t be found." after I click on the "Shop Now" link via cashrewards?

    • Try again? It works for me, I tried just now.

  • +2

Airport tax back to sweeten the deal

  • Looks like its good time to purchase 14inch MBP with M3pro chip base model for $2440?
    Edu RRP$3239 - wws/coles 10%gc $324 - 8%CR $235 - $240 uni gc

    • $214 cashback only resulting a final of $2,457

      • How you calculate the CR part? Taken out the $240 uni gc?

  • Is trade in valid for Cashback?

Apple says "we’ll refund your payment method up to the purchase price. If there’s any remaining refund amount, we’ll send you an Apple Store Gift Card by email." If I'm paying by card, I'm assuming it will refund straight back to the card, will that then be illegible for cashback due to "refund" ?

  • Does Apple Education Store still verify student status?
