  • If that can be made and sold for a normal price $4.70, kinda suggests the mark up on so many other goods is huge.

I don't know what to tell you?
If you can charge Aussie retail prices but skip high commercial rents, high staff wages, high compliance costs, OECD level taxes, ACL rights and all the myriad of costs associated with doing business in a first world country, then yes, the costs can be very low.

I think a lot of "business sense" comes from people running a lemonade stand or similar as a kid, where there was no rent, no staff costs, no tax, no compliance and probably no ingredients costs.
If there are no costs, selling lemonade for 20c is a profitable business!

For sure, but companies are skipping these costs, not manufacturing or basing admin in Aust or even declaring their profit here. Absolutely some cost associated with (now outsourced) warehousing etc. Commissions and sales tax cost would be direct a direct result of that 'mark up'.

Na my business sense doesn't come from a lemonade stand , if that's what you meant, and if so that's a bit of a sledge to be honest. From my experience the other main cost is would be marketing and execs.

I think my point is valid unless you want to get further into the nitty gritty of directs and indirects.

I mean these guys are in China, selling to us, with none of the costs of doing business in Australia.
So yeah, their costs are low.
Buy the same thing from Jaycar, who has to buy it from China, distribute it to their store network, advertise, pay staff, pay rent, pay tax, cover ACL etc. and they will charge $8.99 (or similar mark up, I don't know if they sell these).
So yes, the mark up is sizeable, but so are costs.

The only advantage is you will get it today if you head into the store.

You can see the costs directly in the post from watchnerd showing comparable aliexpress sales, often someone posting from a bedroom, that come in 10% cheaper - there isn't any business costs here, just a website posting to AU.

  • Do I need to buy a soldering gun separately?

All you need are your hopes, dreams and a can do attitude.
But, so I'm not a complete dick, the kits would not include a soldering iron nor solder

Hopes, dreams and a can do attitude! … and… a soldering iron, soldering wire, scissors, tweezers and a screwdriver. :-D

    • I have a pinecil v2 and runs on usb supply at 100w, it works pretty nice but it’s abit pricey, can recommend it if your looking for a soldering iron
