Another sale of the VIOFO 4k front and rear dash cam. Seems quite popular from previous postings.

Anyone know if these dash cams will survive in a black car that is parked outside under the Adelaide sun?

Also have this and highly recommend.

Edit: Use code SPRING2024 to make it $373.61

    • Nice!

      • You should update the deal

Good unit. Can also recommend the WM1 if you need a small, budget front only camera.

    • Any reason you couldn't use a pair of those for front & rear in a motorhome instead of a set like the A139 Pro? That'd save running the camera cable from rear to front which is a nightmare in a motorhome (also would need a longer cable).

      • I can't think of a reason it wouldn't work, but I'd do a bit of "using front cameras as rear cameras" research in case I've not thought of something! :-)

      • Only reason I can think of is that the front and rear video files start and stop time wouldn't be synced. This is a time saver when you want to cut or do picture-in-picture of the front and rear files together. Workaround is to manually sync using the GPS time.

  • I recently had my 129plus stolen from my car. The thief was kind enough to leave the rear camera in place though.

Does anyone know if I'd be able to pair my current 129plus rear with the A139 Pro front?

    • Might be a different plug type. The 129 i think is micro usb, whereas these are a small metal coax plug.

      • Ahh bummer that makes sense, especially if it's also coax at the front camera side of things.

        Thanks!

Thanks OP, been waiting on a deal for this.

Can anyone recommend an installer in Perth?

Ordered one. Code Vancouver5% makes it $369

Now to lookup how to install it

    • Amazing! thanks marx

  • I;m also in Adelaide and drive a black car as well =)

Whats the extra part to have LOW VOLTAGE THING to have 24.7 parking thingamajig

    • That would be this hardwire kit https://viofo.com/accessories/211-323-viofo-hk3-c-type-c-har… , I think many still recommend a seperate battery if you're planning to do a lot of parking recording but YMMV

      • I've got 2 of the cheaper VIOFO's which were popular on ozbargain 5 years ago, one in the front, one in the back.
My car's been broken into twice recently, and these don't catch anything since they're not powered on when it's parked/off.

If I buy this dashcam and the thing you mentioned, would that run 24/7 and catch the thieves next time?

Other solution is, I was thinking of putting one of hiding one of my Ring pop-up cameras either in the car, or in a nature-strip tree aimed down at where I park…

This is an example of what I meant by seperate battery.
          https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Shop-our-Full-R…

It can run 24/7 dependent on your setting and available battery, if it runs out then you're out of luck.

Would it catch the thieves? depends on many factors such as if it can see them, the 3 channel that includes the internal camera might increase your chances, or they could just steal the camera.

          • +2

@raiyani: Honestly, the chance that the cops will use the footage to arrest the theives is extremly low. Just make sure you have a good comprehensive insurance to cover theft.

They power off when the battery voltage drops too low. The dual 4K gets you probably couple hours at best on a mid-sized car battery.

The Ring option might work but it will be annoying with all the movement reports while you are in the car.

Thanks. Good to know it turns off as I don't want the car battery to deplete. I'm using USB with an adapter in the smoke-lighter port for now.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking of doing the ring-cam in the tree just aimed straight down on my car, but have to check if it's legal since it's the council's tree.

Yeah, I figured, but I kind of just want to see who is doing it for myself. And if I get notified and they don't look too strong + I'm angry enough, I might run out and chase them off. It's really frustrating just having this happen to me with nothing I can do about it.

            Thanks for the info.

or they could just steal the camera.

I'm surprised they've been leaving both the dashcams, especially since they took a cheap SatNav unit…

            • @idonotknowwhy: I just want to be clear: The hardwiring kit shuts it down on low battery. Not the cam itself. If you'll have it on the cig lighter instead, it will juice the car battery out completely.

      • whats the SEPARATE BATTERY link, just wanted to make sure its the correct one

        • +1

Please do your own due diligence, I'm by no means qualified or an expert, this is just from my own research and looking around for options when I purchased.

        • sorry, link above

      • Can't you just set the parking timer extra low, maybe 3 hours?

    • I use the IROAD Powerpack PRO12 and it lasts about 30 odd hours on parking backup. The IROD is nicely tucked in a secure place…planning to extend the battery to power a USB powered mobile dongle to access cameras from anywhere.

  • I had this and it's good.
I only have the duo model and set for front and rear, but it looks as though the rear and internal camera are the same, and it seems to have more of a wide angle almost fishbowl feel, I actually prefer the rear camera of the A129 Plus duo I have in the other car.

It seems like I get a lot more windscreen reflection even with the included CPL filter, but that could be due to the car and dash design rather than the camera itself.

The thinner cables are nice and easy to route.

One thing to note is that this model doesn't have a screen, if that's something that bothers you but connects nicely using direct wifi to your phone.

i have this cam, happy with it so far. Looks nice and neat tucked up behind the mirror.

For those considering hard-wiring so you use parking mode, which I have done, a couple of gotchas:
    1. it can be tricky working out which fuse to piggy-back on, depending on your car make and model
    2. in parking mode, the battery drain is continuous until it reaches a pre-set voltage then stops. You might get a day or so out of it, possibly less. By default, the drain is significant and could leave your battery flatter than you would like, especially in winter. I believe you can source a stand-alone battery as an alternative, but I think they're a bit pricey. You can also set parking mode to have a lower bitrate or frame rate which should help, although I haven't tried it.

On the plus side, hard-wiring looks much neater than hooking into the ciggie lighter.

    • Installed the viofo mini 2 with hardwire kit for mum, there was 3 or 4 low voltage options on the hardwire kit box itself, you can select how low the voltage drops before it turns off.

Not sure if itll be the same for this model? I assume so since their both viofo dash

  • How does this compare to red tiger f7n?

Those go for $170, comes with front and rear dash and hardwire kit too (normally cost extra $40)

How’s their support, in case of any issues or warranty claims? Anyone dealt with them?

    • I had my A129 Plus Duo rear camera brick itself after updating the firmware (a common issue for some reason, only affects rear). Contacted Viofo through their website and was able to get a replacement rear camera shipped out within the day of my enquiry. They only asked that I pay the $15 or so for delivery.

      • +2

They are responsible for replacing it, including the shipping costs.

    • Not sure what others have experienced, but mine was a rollercoaster.

Spent almost a year in a back and forth with Viofo, the online seller, and Paypal trying to get a refund for my shoddy front cam. It would just turn itself off and on again on repeat anytime the weather was warm.

      Sent it to be repaired.

'There is nothing wrong with it'

Got it back and it was of course not fixed.

Even after I sent videos to them of the camera doing it, neither Viofo, the seller, or Paypal wanted to take responsibility.

I had to reverse the transaction through my bank.

  • Apart from this A139 model not having a screen, is there any significant difference between this and the A229 Pro which is a bit more expensive?

  • Is the coupon working for anyone? I get a does not exist error.

  • Can anyone please guide me on how to plug in the rear-dashcam other than the hardwire kit? Will a 12v plug in the boot work?

    • +1

No as the data needs to go back to main front unit and therefore need to run wire from front camera to back

    • There's just one thin coax cable from the front main camera that powers it and gets signal from the camera.

  • Anyone hook up a 12V 7Ah AGM (https://www.bunnings.com.au/century-ps-series-12v-7ah-batter…) as a separate battery for parking mode?
Could fit a Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) (https://www.bcf.com.au/p/xtm-12v-dc-voltage-sensitive-relay/…) which will close the circuit to charge the battery when the engine is running.

My 129 Pro Duo won't power up anymore >_<

    Hesitant to go Viofo again…

    • How long did it last?

      • +1

        About 3 years?

  • Has the price gone up?
