  • Can we buy it now and activate later? If so how long would we have to activate?

    • I think once you purchase it starts the count down , it does with the referrals

That’s why I asked as my referrals didn’t start until the free 1GB was used up. I’ll ask Support and report back here.

    • It says in the Additional Information 2 years validity and "The validity period starts only when eSIM connects to any supported network."

    Anyone use these guys before?

    • +2

Yep I used them in Bali twice. Had a couple of referrals too that stacked up. Support is excellent and it works seamlessly.

      • Pls tell me more about the referrals.

        • +2

It was just random ones from here. I got the initial 1GB on the OzBargain post and then when that was used up it went to my first referral. Same once that used up it automatically went to the next one.

Had it as a freebie like bobwokeup. Worked as expected when i was in Greece.

  • Getting code is invalid for SPRING3 myself…

    • Damn maybe Targetted then

Spoke with support, and gave them details, the response was:
We regret to inform you that our Spring Sale promotional code is only available for seleccted users and unfortunatley you are not eligible to redeem it

          Denied. Not worthy.

@xoom: free esim with 1gb data does appear to be available still from their site - better than nothing…

            • +1

@evanssm2jp: Well it is better than a kick in the pants. I give you that.

Quick suggestion, unless you're really traveling globally in a trip, I usually just get a country specific or region specific (if i'm going to a few nearby countries in a trip) as that would cost significantly less. e.g. I recently went to Vietnam for a week and I got a Vietnam only eSIM 1GB 7 days for $4.50 (and only top up if i need more). I'm using a different provider but personally i don't see a need to pay a premium for a "global one" as i'll likely be doing regional travel only.

      Yep, https://esimdb.com is your friend

      • I used Airalo.

Depends on how often you travel. Also note that the eSIM you buy lasts for 2 years. For us we go to Bali a few times a year and occasionally to other countries, so it’s perfect for us.

  • What would be a reasonable amount for Japan for 12 days? Given that we'll probably not be using data heavy stuff outside of places where we're connected to wifi. Anyone have any experience?

    • I went on holiday for 2 weeks and a 30GB eSIM was more than enough.

      • Wow 30gb was actually a lot more than I was thinking, I was anticipating more like 2gb.

        • Everyone’s different with their data usage and also depends if you can use Wifi. That 30GB last for 2 years and if it was a global one you can use it at any of the supported countries.

        • I think you'll easily use way more than 2GB in 2 weeks unless you are very miserly with it.

My last holiday before that, in 2019, I had a 20GB physical SIM that was shaped to 2Mbps (yes, that's not a typo) and I used 10GB in 2 weeks.

        • A lot has to do with you usage habits and settings.

For example, do you use social media where you'll be uploading pictures while you are outside or watch video clips? Does your phone automatically backup your pictures/videos to cloud? Media contents (both upload and download) tends to suck up a lot of data usage.

Personally, I'll probably go through about 500mb a day if i'm out traveling majority of the day.

    • This is the cheapest budget option for 12 days - https://esimjapan.com/product/esim-japan-unlimited/

Although you can also sign up for 1GB free trials / 1GB for $1 from a few esim websites.

      • Wow that's great, thanks for this, very helpful!

  • Sounds like a good deal for a SmartWatch!

Less than I am paying for Lebara standard plan for 2 years, and more data.
Bonus it will work overseas. Any downside?

I see it needs their app installed, but makes a QR code. so can you generate the QR code on one device, and install it on another using the camera?
