  • Although the soc on this is marginally faster than the snapdragon 695 on the g84. I would still pick the 695 over the mediatek soc.

You're getting better software support and better cameras on the Oppo

      • Fair point.

      • isnt the oppo on android 11 still? I also don't see any mention of planned updates. G84 should be updated till android 15.

        • Android 13 I think, honestly not sure. Was basing that on the software support for the standard X5 models.

        • Oppo customers are waiting for 14 still but everything I read says they will get it. The g84 is not getting 15 only security updates after 14. Moto is terrible with software

          • @Deltadeals: Apparently the G84 and G54 will be getting Android 15, and 14 is available for the G84 as of a few days ago.

            • @revheadgl: Motorola Moto X40 only.

              • @Deltadeals: Apologies, I posted the incorrect link.

                  • @Deltadeals: Well, I guess that source is going to be the more believable, lol. I did buy the G84 thinking it will get 15 :(

                    • @revheadgl: Yeah kinda proves how unreliable some sources are…I'm sure Motorola gave some media source the wrong info at some stage

                      • @Deltadeals: This is the way of the internet I guess, I actually just sent an email to Motorola Au asking to confirm whether it will or won't be getting 15.

                      • @Deltadeals: Motorola just got back to me. They literally only took 20 mins. I will post the main body of the email, but they say they have yet to receive information as the whether it will or won't get 15.

"Thank you for contacting Motorola. We are here to assist you in checking if Motorola g84 and g54 will receive Android 15.

As per checking, for Moto g84, the upgrade to Android™ 14 began on March 12, 2024. While for g54, this device is expected to receive Android™ 14, pending partner approval, if that's required.

We have yet to receive information whether g84 and g54 will receive Android 15. Software updates will be sent to your phone automatically over-the-air as they become available.

As soon as we know your specific device will be upgraded and when, we post the latest information on Motorola’s software updates page."

        • i have the oppo, it’s android 13 and i get regular security updates. i’m happy with the phone , took a while to get used to color os coming from android one. my g84 just got android14 … i’d get the moto for the android 14 , camera is often software so they can fix with update , if camera is important the oppo is 3 camera, the moto seems to be 2, only has 2 lenses.

I sold my Oppo Find x5 lite for the G84. However, the only thing I'm impressed with the Oppo is the fast-changing. Some of the units can't be updated to Android 13. I have to take it to the Oppo service centre for the OS update.

where did you buy your oppo from ? i got mine from JB so australian stock and no issues with updates. if you have a spare phone, zap the oppo with a piezo in the usb c and get it fixed under warranty and they will swap out the board. especially if going to service centre anyway.

      • woah, warranty fraud? but what would be the chance they actually accept it and fix it?

        • no water damage, no cracked screen, only thing I've ever been asked getting phone fixed under warranty. Older Iphones have a "water damage" indicator inside that they check.

I wouldn't recommend buying from Mobileciti. I had a JBL speaker fail after 1 year and 1 month and they refused to follow Australian Consumer Law and replace or refund it.

    • take it up with jbl, the distributor in australia, why pin that on mobileciti - THEY have done their one year of support and warranty responsibility NOW its manufacturer only who can handle it and offer that extended warranty beyond the 1 year. You want mobileciti to just give you a new speaker, out of their (relatively small) pockets, verses the larger manufacturer or disty pocket?

      • You're wrong. That's not how the Australian Consumer Law works
        https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-…

        Who is responsible

Businesses are responsible for resolving problems with products they sell to consumers.

Businesses must not tell consumers to go to the manufacturer for a remedy
