2850
APAYDAY

Kicking off the Afterpay Day sale is an offer from eBay with 15% off millions of items. If it’s like the promo from previous round, it is limited to one per account and you’d need to select Afterpay at checkout for discount to work and hopefully you still can use gift cards to pay it down

  1. Offer Period. This offer is provided by eBay Marketplaces GmbH (“eBay”) and commences at 10:00am AEDT on 14th March 2024 and is available for a limited time only, for as long as it is advertised on the eBay.com.au site (“Offer Period”). eBay reserves the right to cancel the offer at any time as set out in the Changes clause below.
  2. Eligibility. This offer is available to all eBay members.
  3. Conditions. This offer entitles you to 15% off the pre-coupon purchase price (excluding postage costs) on Eligible Items when you checkout with Afterpay during the Offer Period, when you spend $50 or more (excluding postage costs) in one transaction, up to a maximum discount of $100 per transaction. Multiple items may be purchased in 1 transaction per person, including cancelled transactions as set out in the Cancellations clause below (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction). Afterpay is only available for transactions not exceeding $3,000.
  4. “Eligible Items” means items listed on eBay.com.au where a link to these terms and conditions and the coupon redemption code APAYDAY is found in the item listing, or the item appears in the following URL:

    Jack is coming. Haha.

    • +41

One of our ebay stores got "invited" to this. Ebay covers 5% and the store is expected to wear 10%.

It's the first time I was on the other side of the coin and though, huh, I can see why prices go up.

Saying that, it's far easier not to participate, but I'm sure those who do (especially the big end of town), with products of high margins, do very well.

      • +3

Thanks for the inside scoop on how much ebay is covering vs the store for this sale.

Sales where ebay covers such a small part or none of the costs I can completely understand why "jack lives here"

Im sure sellers and ebay do very well off these "sales" purchasers on the other hand well you may find a bargain you may not.

        • +11

While I see the pain from the seller's side - I do NOT agree that price jacking to off-set this is the way to go. It is still deceptive from the consumer's perspective and fundamentally in breach of ACCC. Better to not participate. Personally, I loose trust and therefore loyaly to sellers that follow this practice.

          • +8

@Savabuck: I hate it when my trust is loose. Falls all over the place. Need a belt for it.

            • @Ruddaga: And if you don't have a belt it therefore goes all loyaly and can't be contained.

      • +3

Does feeBay also waive the final value fee (or the equivalent fee for eBay stores)?

      • I recall Afterpay day sales used to be entirely Afterpay VC cash funded, so there were no jacking. Things are changing I presume?

      • +2

do stores still have to pay 13.7% in final value fees?
Seems like ebay wins and wins again.

      • Ebay covers 5% and the store is expected to wear 10%.

Afterpay covers 0%? However, Jack promotion is a lie for free advertising.

    • +1

      Jack Reacher?

    • Jack is eating a big 'ol fat nothing burger.

  • +19

    $100 cap? That's lame.

  • +1

PlayStation 5 (Slim) Disc Console - PlayStation 5 - $699.95 + Del if there’s still stock left when promo starts

    • +7

      Visit from Jack. Currently $799.95

      • +2

This is exactly why people don't trust eBay and the posts are botted.

Amazon has will tell you price fluctuations, camelx3 tracks them as well, eBay you can only check recent sales and even then it can be obstructed.

        Such scammyness

      • I think OP meant $699.95 after applying the coupon

        • -1

          Unlikely, as 15% off 799 is 679.15.

      • +1

        when promo starts

        • I bought one. Thanks for pointing it out. Cost around $708 dfelivered.

  • +2

Jack be nimble, Jack be slick,
Jack jumps high…….. better be quick!

I will now see myself to the door……or the naughty step:)

  • +4

So item needs to be up to around $650 max to be worth it…

    Assuming discount codes don't stack?

  • +5

Max discount of $100 limits the deal to items $666 and less for maximum value.

  • +11

It really sucks to see how the unfortunate are milked by these massive companies for whatever they’ve got.
I know most of us are likely able to pay it off, but this services feeds off those who aren’t able to manage their finances as well. Their earnings calls and financial reports show as much.
This afterpay deal also gets worse and worse compared to previous years. A $666 max is stupid

    • +2

Afterpay (Square) getting desperate. They ain't doing well after the covid heavy years.

      • ASX:SQ2 is surging.

  • Good job Afterpay

  • +1

You could probably get a Steam Deck LCD 64GB for $600.

  • Anyone famililar with the chances this stacks with the MAR15/MAR17 codes?

    • +5

It’s one or the other, can’t do both codes

  • +2

Cool, so worse than the existing 17% code for what I've had in watchlist. Meh

    • +4

Depends on your uses but the 17% off code wouldn’t work for retailers like The Gamesmen, Sony, Dyson or EB Games
The 15% off from Afterpay would work on those retailers

  • +1

I hate the idea of AfterPay,
But I love the idea of 15% off!

    • +3

Pay 99% of the value in discounted gift cards and then pay off the remainder $1 in one hit. No afterpay…

      • which gift cards mate? tia

        • +4

I use Celebration Swap cards from ShopBack which currently have a 2.5% rebate.

I’m sure there’s bigger discounts available via the listing at www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards but I’m a lazy, lazy man.

Just make sure the value of the gift card you get is less than the purchase price of your item minus the 15%. If not, you won’t get to apply the afterpay 15% discount since you won’t have any outstanding balance. In past years, $1 afterpay was enough to qualify…

      • +2

I don't think you even need to do that, last I checked you can just voluntarily pay out purchases in AfterPay at any point anyway.

You just go into the purchase and pay the 1/4, 2/4 etc

        • +1

Yup, just did this. $250 purchase, after the inital payment straight away went to the website and paid the rest off. Little annoyed I didn't utilise the $30 off referal though :/

  • Does this apply to used items by non retail sellers?

  • Hope we get some ShopBack stacking like last year

    • +1

There should be some as it has been advertised in the Afterpay day banner on ShopBack

  • Is this going to be like the ones where it's not just one use during this campaign, but once use per account for all time? i.e. if you've used an Afterpay promo before you won't be able to use it on your same account again?

    • I doubt it - I’d say if you used it last year you’ll be fine to use it again this year.

  • +1

To join Afterpay, do they do a credit check?

    • +1

They didn't when I joined two years ago

  • Do I need to use afterpay payment method to get this?

    • Yes, the Afterpay payment method is required to apply the code.

      • Automatic roadblock

  • meh the ebay sales never usually have anything good on sale that EVERYONE ALREADY HAS!!!

    • They were acquired up by Square for the small sum of $29B.

      • Wow ok but the shares worth that much?

        • yes, the implied value of the takeover bid was ~$93 at the time. it ipo'd at $1 in 2016, taken over in the beginning of 2022.

  • any good deals on 4070 ti super?

    • +5

Have a search and please let us know?

    • +3

With the $100 cap $1285 will be the cheapest via eBay if the seller participates vs $1228 from an online store outside of eBay which is still more expensive than the $1199 deal from a few weeks ago.

  • Be interesting to see if this stacks with ShopBack or TopCashback

    • it did last year on shopback 10% cashback

      • If there’s a good Westpac bonus on top, I’ll get my egg white powder for about $40-45

  • +3

Am I the only one that has stopped shopping at eBay because of being too tired of navigating through 1000000s jacked up priced items and then found 1 item save me 20 bucks, then just go…CBF…this place is just waste of time?

    • +2

It takes 2 seconds to click "Sort by price including postage" when you're looking for something - why would you be looking through any items except the top result in that search ?

      • +1

and if you're not looking for anything in particular, just bargains that would be useful….. the post you commented on is completely valid.

      • +3

Sellers now have multiple items to bypass the lowest price search

      • Imagine how cool Amazon would be if you could sort by price…

    • +8

I agree that it's a rather unpleasant place to simply "browse" for stuff. You kinda have to know exactly what you're after and then use the search filters to refine the living crap out of it, then skim off the top few results as Nom suggested.

Also depends on your comfort level for using places like Temu, Aliexpress, etc. if you're deadset against using any of the "native" Chinese apps, then eBay is likely your primary avenue for cheap trinket crap (like cables and wotnot). Because you have a mix of drop-shippers and local sellers, it's a middle ground between fast (Amazon) and cheap (Temu, Ali).

  • -2

interesting how ebay is the last ones to do this sale so many afterpay sales with other places like catch already.

    • +1

EBay have been doing it a couple times a year for around five years, haven’t they?

  • Could someone point me to a cheap and decent gaming keyboard please? Bought one recently from Big W but the 1 key doesn't work properly so I'm in need of a new gaming keyboard again. Only asking because I know this forum has some very intelligent ebay people on here.

  • Anyone else getting "Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again."?

    • same here

    • +2

Make sure you've set Afterpay as the payment method. It won't take the APAYDAY code if you haven't already selected that option

      • Done that - maybe just not an eligible item

  • Damn, you can't use afterpay if your order has multiple items from different sellers.

    • Why not make separate orders then?

      • +2

You can only use the code once per account, so if you want multiple things you have to consolidate them into 1 order.

        • I wasn't able to consolidate, needs to be from the same seller?

          • @congo: I have found that certain sellers don't let you consolidate if they have different shipping fees attached to different items.

      • Because only 1 time use.

        • Ah yeah I'm so blind. My bad.

  • +2

    Any bargains yet?

  • +1

where will they have a better filter or search tool

  • Didn't sellers on Ebay jack up the prices of items the last time this deal came around to make it look like you're getting a better deal when in reality you're still paying the original price? lol.

Also can't seem to get the code to work even tho afterpay is selected
"Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again."

    • When eBay make them pay for most of the discount ontop of the existing fees it's no wonder they price jack.

  • +2

Stack with Afterpay promo code and 10% cashback from ShopBack (not the additional 10% for Westpac customers as it requires Afterpay to be selected)

Steam Deck 64GB - $618.88 delivered from Dick Smith eBay

    • ATL?

      • With cashback, yes

Without cashback, no (ATL was $612.30)

  • Has anyone tried gift cards yet?

    • +1

Worked fine with a small amount paid with Afterpay. Not sure if it will work for whole amount.
