How the hell were 1TB NVME gen4 drives selling for $55 last year

    • +1

      oversupply + stronger dollar

Not a deal tbh, is frequently cheaper than this and offers fairly poor value for money.

  • Batteries ‎1 Lithium Ion batteries required.???

SSDs are no longer coal-fired. They're switching them to all electric.

If this isn't a deal somebody please recommend a 2.5" drive around this price (or a little cheaper) that I can throw in an ageing desktop to keep it alive a few more years

I'm not sure why people are negging you for simply asking a question. OzBargain is meant to be a community where people help each other out. I guess they are just reading the first few words and then firing off a neg without thinking. That's the social media mentality for you.

    • How much disk space do you need?

I would recommend this as you can then put it in an external enclosure in a few years time and use it for additional storage/backups.

If you are using an old hdd (spindle drive) then a sata ssd will breath life into an old desktop. I put an ssd into a 4590t usff as a nas (using usb drives for files) and it's great.

      • Probably somewhere between 500gb and this would be fine. It's a POS all in one dell box that would be easier to just replace with an ex lease machine.. apart from the fact that it runs three screens natively which is just so damn convenient.

yeah i have a mini PC looking for a sata 2.5” …what’s the current best deal better than this ?

  • For this price get a M.2 NVME gen4 drive

    • +2

Yeah if you have a motherboard with a slot or don't already have them all populated

      • It is still not a good price.

  • +2

    It's been circa $50.
    No deal here.

I have a Patriot P210 2TB in my HTPC. I don't know much technically about it but the performance is really awful. Copying files to it is a pain . It looks fast in the beginning but slows down to almost zero write speeds. Can't play any movie file larger than 30/40 GB from that. If you want to see VLC player hanging, use one if those drives.

  • Could be anecdotal, but I've had a few of the patriots fail after a few weeks.
