      Egg on your face?

    • Some iga stores have them.

    • Correct. Long gone.
Cadbury Schweppes took over Tarax in 1972 so would havechanged the formulations to suit themselves.

  • From Wikipedia:

Cadbury Schweppes took over Tarax in 1972, but continued to market Tarax soft drinks as a regional brand to complement its national brands.

In the 1970s the brand re-invented itself, with the dropping of several flavours and the introduction of "Black Label" in lemonade and orange. An extensive advertising campaign that featured actress Abigail. Later Pamela Gibbons, also of Number 96, performed in the Black Label commercials.

While Tarax's popularity has waned since the 1970s, it has still remained on the market, albeit with far lower prominence, relegated primarily to supermarket shelves.

So, maybe you could contact Cadbury Schweppes and ask them what they still make and where you can get it?

    • Which is now owned by Asahi.

The Schweppes brown creamy soda is not too different from the old Tarax one. The Kirks pink creaming soda is nice as well. River Port Portello is great if you like Portello, almost like the old Loys drinks we used to get delivered in the 80s and early 90s. I see they also make a creamy soda as well, given their Portello is so good u could give that a crack?

When I was a little kid, my mum took me to the Channel 9 Bendigo St Richmond studios to be in the studio audience for the Tarax Show!

Marchants was another soft drink brand from way back - the internet says they were the biggest soft drink manufacturer in Australia. I remember that they had plastic/rubber screw tops on their bottles.

  • Whenever I’m looking for something I use to enjoy as a kid growing up in the late 90’s I usually find IGA is best. Recently I was having such a craving for Samboy Atomic Tomato chips, couldn’t find them at woolies/coles but IGA came through! My mum use to always buy the Tarax brand from Ritchies/IGA, so I think maybe check around those stores see how you go.

    • OH man. Those Samboy chips! Gotta get me some.

I reckon the formula would have changed since the 80’s & not the taste you remember

    • Sugar content alone is a big change. All the soft drinks never taste the same after the reduction.
