Fenvi AX5400 WiFi 6E USB Adapter US$9.80 (~A$15) Delivered @ Cutesliving Store AliExpress

Really good price on this USB WiFi 6E adapter if you're in need of one for a desktop without WiFi or picked up one of the many, many good prebuilts on OzBargain lately.

This is tri-band with support for 2.4GHz (574Mbps), 5GHz (2400Mbps) and 6GHz (2400Mbps). It uses the Realtek RTL8832CU chipset, has a USB 3.0 interface and features 2 fold out 2dBi WiFi antennas.

If you use Linux 🤮🤮 this doesn't have a compatible driver yet.

Alternatively you can get the Fenvi WiFi 6 AX1800 USB adapter for US$7.61 (~A$11.66) with 2.4GHz (574Mbps), 5GHz (1800Mbps) and the MediaTek MT7921 chipset, however this WiFi 6E adapter is better value imo.

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

For Linux users, RTL8832CU is currently unsupported so if you need it, get the adapter with the MT7921 chipset

Good advice, as a new user I only found out this the hard way purchasing adapters that didn't work.

I bought one of these from Ali. I was really disappointed to discover that these things are not driver free. When you plug it in, it detects as a cdrom drive. You then have to run the unsigned file on the drive to get it to pass the WiFi card to the PC. Personally I don't trust unsigned drivers/exe files from China.

Funny thing is the listing images claim to be "Driver Free" / "Drive free Plug and Play"…

It is free, the spyware comes with the product

Do you know this or are you just guessing? Because I actually tried and couldn't find one. Happy to be shown to be wrong.

          • @Clear: Are you saying you need to contact Realtek and they send you the official driver? Is that where you got the one in your previous comment?

        • -1

What did Realtek say when you asked them?

  • Sometimes foreign wifi adapters don’t work on certain wifi bands here. Had a U.K. TP-Link AC adapter that was capable but not willing to work after I boosted my NBN past 100mb down.

    • Yikes. Thank you for sharing. I never would have expected that

    • +2

Can you expand on this? You increased your ISP bandwidth and it broke your wifi?

      • +2

Essentially, same adapter worked flawlessly for 2 years. Increased to 1000 and could connect but no internet. Read into it and saw about the channels being different or something when reconfiguring router for faster speed and how overseas ac adapters can also be configured differently out of the box. Could it be tweaked, maybe… I tried a bunch of things and no deal. Does this make sense… perhaps not. Just a caution to consider but at $15 it’s worth the gamble.

        • It wouldn't be the case with a Chinese adapter. UK are far more restrictive on channels. China isn't.

          • @Clear: This could well be it. U.K. specifically, now that you mention it, might be an edge case.

        • Read into it and saw about the channels being different or something when reconfiguring router for faster speed

Huh, definitely one of the weirdest wifi things I've heard. Cannot say this makes any sense to me, but you'e right not worth spending hours on over a $15 adaptor.

          • @rumblytangara: All countries have rules around wireless communications. Some countries like the UK are more restrictive and others like China and Australia are not. An adapter made for the UK has no relevance to this deal.

              @Clear:

All countries have rules around wireless communications.

I totally know this- I've been using gear from other countries for the past couple of decades and if anything I haven't bothered figuring out what the AU bands are because all my gear is designed for overseas use. I'm vaguely under the impression that the 6GHz spectrum is a bit restricted here, but as I don't have any use for 6E haven't looked into it.

Just sounds like a very situational one-off incident to me, I can't imagine how an ISP speed increase would change anything within the WLAN environment- they should be totally independent things.

              • @rumblytangara: Oh right sorry I misunderstood. Yeah it doesnt sound right.

  • +1

Can you plug it to printer or TV?

    • +2

Not usually. The printer or TV would need to have a way to communicate with the device and that means a driver. Usually these are not present on Printers or TVs.

  • +3

Strange, I remember seeing the PCIE card for cheap. now they price all went up.

  • Will it work on the KAMRUI Mini PC. Thanks

    • Yep if you're running Win10 or 11.

      • Perfect Thanks

  • +2

So some people saying you have to run some drivers from china, has anyone tried this and know if it is safe?

  • +1

PSA: If you remove "?sourceType=562" (without quotations) from the end of the URL the price magically drops to $8.62

    • If you're a new user*. I would use my new user bonus on something more expensive for a bigger saving.

      • I'm not a new user but I was able to get it for 8.62

        • If you haven't made an order in 6-12 months they consider you to be a new user. Unless it had a limited flash sale.

  • I'm getting "This product can't be shipped to your address. Select another product or address."

    Anyone else with this issue?
