Recommend Dual Sim Phone with Good Camera

With the lack of dual sim support on the Australian market, what do people recommend for one with a good camera either local or grey import? First priority is dual sim. Second is camera quality.

    Why a dual SIM?
Wouldn't you be better with a phone with eSIM support?

    • Haven't looked into eSIM. Do most high end phones have eSIM support now?

I've always had phones with dual physical SIM as I keep my one SIM for OTP and personal contacts. The 2nd sim I use for things I get expected to be spammed on.

What about for travelling? I assume buying local tourist physical sims would be the easiest and cheapest option. Would it be easy to keep my OTP sim as an e-sim?

Probably just keep your main personal one as eSim on your phone then the spare sim you can always swap out as the physical sim.

That way you can use like 99% of the phones on the market and it'll be fine.

read my post re travelling. your way is so pre-covid.

      • I'm currently using a Pixel 7 with a Woolworths prepaid eSim and a Telstra Sim, it works better then than any of the dual sim phones I have had previously.

Yes, since around 2018/19, top-end phones have eSIMS.
I have a physical SIM in my S21 and buy eSIMS when travelling.

    • yep more and more companies selling esim only data for tourist we dont need to queue to buy local physical sim card at destination airport anymore like old days.
maybe slightly more expensive but the convenient factor is huge, especially if you dont read/speak the local language. imagine landing in still inside flight, flick a button and voila, tik tok continues

    motorola G54 - budget or G84 - mid range / ozb favourite

    • not a good camera i think tho

      • G84 camera is decent but nothing to get excited about. huawei would have been a good choice for a high end phone with good camera and dual sim but uncle sam put an end to that

        • I wont call it good, its decent or average, yeah sure.

In general Australians dont get the good dual sim phones here, most major companies just divert their dual sim versions to other countries and send sh!t versions here. (like samsung).

Only possiblity they leave here is like 1 physical 1 esim, (but they never send 2 dual physical sim phones here in Oz)

Pixel 7a at $474 is hard to beat.

Comes with eSim so you can use the physical SIM and the eSIM in a dual number setup.

Most recent phones supports 2 sims (multiple esims or 1 physical/esim). Just make your main line the esim and use the physical one for travelling.

I believe iphones support up to 8 esims, and you can swap them out but only have 2 active at anytime. This is probably the most convenient.

and use the physical one for travelling.

I always use eSims for travelling. Easier to purchase and activate so no stuffing around when you arrive at your destination.

      • I agree if you buy one of those global esims service before travelling.

But if OP prefers to land in the airport and buy it it off a counter, not every service provider in all countries have esim. It is slowly changing but it is destination specific. China does not have esim for tourist if you decide to buy from the Chinese telcos locally.

My iphone can have up to 8 eSims + one physical sim

  • Any xiaomi phone, camera's are pretty good and most of them are dual sim and decent value for money. Less so price wise with their rise to number 3 or 4 phone producer in the world but still great devices.

  • Sony Experian 5 V

    • Just an issue for Xperia V to actually work in Au as it does not support VoLte and with #G being turned off does not help

      • It does with a few tweaks. Not out of the box though

        • Wondering what these tweaks are ? Tried typing in the dialler ##4636##, and from the phone info option toggled the "enable DSDS" option so that Voice Network Type: LTE was shown. However the phone continues to default to 3G for voice calls……

        • Looking at the latest firmware XQ-AS72_Customized SEA_58.1.A.1.178 doesn't have 5G enabled in Australia. There is no NR-NSA bands defined in band_set_01.xml file:….

        • Is a firm ware flash required as the "tweak"?

  • I carry two phones. An iPhone plus a cheap dual-SIM Android phone. The Android phone is basically a hotspot phone for me and my wife while we are not at home. On our iPhones, we have got a monthly plan that we only pay if we use the phone (data/call/SMS), so we pay nothing if we travel overseas for months. My hotspot phone always has the prepaid cheapest SIM I can find as well as the local SIM if we are overseas.

  • OnePlus 12 is my recommendation for sure.
One of the best phones on the market at the moment, in my opinion.

Great camera, great battery, dual-sim too 👍

  • As I know, any model of HK/CN Version would be Dual Sim, you may find those models from kogan and eBay for a good Samsung phone.
