  • can any one advise if these would make good gaming headphones?

    • I don't have personal experience with them, but they'll probably lack microphone use and typically, cheaper wireless headphones can have audio delay. For sound alone, wired would be fine.

      • They have a microphone, and the passive wired sound on most ANC headphones has ridiculously boosted bass because of how the technology works and tends to be implemented.

1More's headphone operates this way, so the wired audio is more of a break glass in case of emergency feature.

    • They would not, Bluetooth latency general is too high, and the wired sound will be awful.

What device are you looking to game on?

      • Young fella is looking for a headset to play CS:GO on his laptop.

        • If you have a PS5 in the house, I would recommend the PlayStation Pulse Elite for about $200 as an all-in-one solution that's closed back, has a retractable mic, is both low latency wireless - with a USB dongle and Windows drivers - and has Bluetooth support.

Only thing it's missing is ANC, but that's more for public transport. Very high value audio for the price, but a lot of upper treble out of the box.

Can be EQ'd down to neutral, but requires a PlayStation to set it as an in-built profile. Even without the PS5 it's still solid value and can be EQ'd on each device, but unless Sony changes their current stance you'd never be able to update it. They are trying to make the PSVR2 PC compatible at present so it may happen, I just wouldn't bank on it.

If you're still down at $100ish and it needs to be a closed back headphone and a separate mic isn't an option, it's unfortunately a sea of crap at the moment, whether wired or wireless. The IEM and open back headphones market are much more competitive there.

just get a razer barracuda x (2022) wireless headset.

are they the best you can get? no but they do everything right and they all have app EQ so you can fix the sound to how you want it.
they regularly drop to $129 or less so you can wait around if you want to get them on sale.

these are the ones I am talking about. make sure to get the barracuda X (2022) version it comes with a USB-C dongle for 2.4Ghz low latency audio.
this is the model number if you shop somewhere else RZ04-04430100-R3M1

the barracuda X which is usually around $85 is bluetooth only and windows and bluetooth is pretty horrible.

I have the blue version of these. Of course they are not as good as Sony/Bose but from my married man with kids and a mortgage view, they are exceptional for the price.

My primary use is for Death Metal, I find that the Classical or Studio equaliser setting work best.

Pros: Reasonable noise cancelling (both on Tram and in Office), Brilliant battery life (a week and a half one charge when using every day), good storage case and good sound quality.

Cons: None at this price point

YMMV but I would buy these again if mine broke.

Brands like QCY, 1More, Xiaomi, they are all very good quality at their price points. Some other like DJI and Shockz are already market leader in their own segments. Made in China have gone a long way, but still be cautious with those no name/weird name products.

      • "ChiFI" is literally its own niche of audio products

  • Says in a review on Amazon that the product has some lead/chemical-related issues
