Recommend nbn FTTC Router for Superloop

I’ve recently switched from TPG to superloop for nbn FTTC. Having issues with my TP-LINK archer vr1600v with connecting to superloop. I have tried changing EWAN settings to dynamic IP and deleted old dsl connections. Since the modem is pretty old, been looking into newer modems router. Wonder if anyone could recommend something that is readily available in store?

Update: For those who come to this post in the future. I called superloop and they had to change the port number and change IP address(Cgnet? Or wan ip) to dynamic on their end.

Superloop offer a 'free' eero 6+ that's pretty damn good. Especially if you wanted to extend to a mesh network in future. Worth considering if it works for your setup.

    • I was hoping to get one with more wired connections as few of us game in the house

@Ayoungman: You can repurpose your TP-Link router as a gigabit switch too (saving you having to buy a switch), you just need to switch off it's wifi radios, give it a IP address and switch off DHCP. Then connect it to your mesh router via ethernet.

  • Look for the TP-Link VLAN section and check that VLAN is switched off. Change back to dynamic IP and your Superloop nbn should start working.

The nbn FTTC box is your VDSL2 modem. If you want a new device you are looking at a router. How much do you want to spend?

A FREE eero 6+ (including eero Secure) is available to all Superloop residential nbn customers. You can only get one free router per service, and must be connected via FTTP, FTTC, or HFC technology. To qualify your service must remain active for 18-months, however, if you cancel your service before your 18-months is up you’ll be charged a one-off clawback fee of $8/mth (inc. GST) based on the number of months remaining. So, if you cancel 6-months into your 18-month commitment the amount owed will be based off the remaining 12-months.

    • Yeah, I haven’t enabled vlan. Got all the right lights and have tried setting up dynamic IP multiple times and deleting all old connects but just no luck.

Honestly I’ll spend quite a bit for a decent router (easy port forwarding/simple set up) . Would assume something up to $300 would last a decent amount of years? And into gigabit internet in the future for Fttc

      • TP-Link Archer AX55, TP-Link Archer AX55 Pro and Asus RT-AX58U routers are under $300.

Gigabit isn't coming to FTTC. Change to FTTP for Gigabit. Check here.

  • Honestly the TP-Link Vr1600v isn't terrible. Flash the generic firmware and then do a factory reset, I am guessing it has come from an ISP. Then just make sure you're using EWAN with IPoE with no VLAN ID and it should work 100%.

There is thread on Whirlpool with more info: https://whrl.pl/Rgm7tg

  • I moved my parents from TPG supplied vr1600 to Superloop FTTC, the router with TPG firmware works 100% with Superloop. You have to remove the VLAN and set internet to dynamic. Simple procedure.

    • Hey, how’s your experience moving from TPG? I have been with them for over 5 years on 50/20 FTTC and planning to switch to Superloop or Leaptel.

Didnt have any issues with TPG I moved because SL was offering some 6 months off promo. I switch once a while. As far as I can tell SL is as good as TPG. In terms of speed, my Teams and Zoom works fine. As far as latency goes my remote desktops responds well. No problem for me same when I am with ABB and exetel before superloop acquisition. I am in Richmond VIC, 50/20M plan.

        • Thanks for sharing your experience

  • I have Archer vr1600v from TPG to Superloop and works fine. I can't remember what I didn't but it was router settings changed from the superloop website guide.

I have since switched to Leaptel and now Tangerine, still using Archer 1600v.

  • If you want to know everything about your network and have almost full control of what goes where get a Ubiquiti device. I think the Dream Router is the best bang for buck.
