  • What is this used for?

      Older Toyota/Lexus car remotes. You can also double-stack 2 x CR2016 if your remote uses 1 x 2032.

        Wouldn't this change the voltage?

        • +3

          Stacking 2 x CR2016 = 6V

        • double stacking his batteries.. then kaboom!… a few hundred dollars later .. new remote..

CR2016s are in RAV4 type old remotes.. I haven't seen these on sale before.. well done OP. BUT critical question.. what is the date of manufacture because if they are on sale they might have been on the shelf for years.. e.g. bunnings had like pre-covid stock on some of types.

@paulojr: The pack I got was manufactured in 06'23. These have a 10y shelf life as noted on packaging.

Apology on the double-stacking idea. I have a few CAME Remotes and the battery inside is 2 x CR2016 (double-stacking).

            • @pork chop: that's an odd one

why not just use a cr2032?

theyre about the same price lol

    • For Tile Mate as well (the key/wallet finder thing that came before Apple Air Tags)

    • Buy 50,000 and make your own Tesla

  • I had a PC case RGB fan controller that used these 2016 button batteries. IIRC, they are thinner than the 2032's

    • +2

The "16" in CR2016 refers specifically to the thickness. CR2016 is half the thickness as a CR2032, at 1.6mm vs 3.2mm. Similarly, the "20" is the diameter being 20mm. Not sure what the "CR" means, but wouldn't surprise me if it's "cell" and "round".

  • Damn, both my key batteries are dying but it's a cr2025

    • Would still work if you can push the contacts/holder to fit the battery around .9mm, or fill with a conductor.
There is a good chance that it will even work right of the bat

  • I wonder if i can use this for my Gamecube.

    Any one know?

The GameCube battery is soldered onto the board. I replaced it with a holder from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004596243152.html
Can't remember which type of battery I put in it though. I think it was a CR2032.

I know I grabbed the rechargeable version of the DreamCast battery because I didn't want to bother with the resistor mod to stop it trying to charge a non-rechargable battery. The DC one is useless, it goes flat if you don't power on the console every 20 days to let the battery charge. That's normal behaviour

  • I was in need of one of these just a week a ago, ended up buying some cheap one on ebay but would have preferred this

    2032 or no deal.

    • +1

Got too excited and I was the checkout thinking it was 2032 lol.

      • Yep, need dem 2032! I’ve literally not needed a 2016 since forever. 2023 seem to be in everything!

        • CR2016 are in some older car remotes
As are CR2025. My Mazda 6 uses CR2025 for its remotes.

There are various products out there that use different sizes but most of the current stuff is CR2032. Agreed.

  • These are good for gloving I believe

  • cr2025?

Can anyone tell me a reliable ebay seller who I can buy CR2032 batteries from and what I should expect to pay?

I found one company, highly trending, good score, 20 x CR2032 in those 5 year off strips. 99% sure they were Oanadonic made in Indonesia.

    4 x 5 strips was a touch under $24

Energiser in the trade trays, they are more expensive.

I could also buy Energizer in 2,4,6 packs retail and they were more expensive as well.

Duracell ended up being the most expensive at six dollars something for four batteries in the retail packaging.

Is there anyone you can trust - I mean one seller had 39 Energizer and wanted $77 for $20. Crossed him off the list.

Any help would be appreciated please.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

Dont buy branded cells from eBay, too many fakes.

Buy from sellers with generic brands who moves lots of goods so they have fresh cells. If you find one brand don't last as long, move on to another brand. They are not alkaline they don't leak, they wont harm your devices, cheap, little to lose. Some will advertise expiry dates, these sellers know what they are selling.
